she still creates that effect that early punk had on you, raw music, full of energywith lyrics that ask why, but she has managed to blend it into such excellentand listenable music by using her years of experience in performing. Her bandare no slouches either with ,and , joining her on stage. This promises to be another magicnight by a fabulous lady in the beautiful setting of the palace gardens in Lloseta.

Placebo are an alternative rock band formed in London in 1994 by a chancemeeting of Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal. Since 2006 they have been joinedby drummer Steve Forrest. Due to their penchant for androgynousattire/makeup and raw guitar riffs, they have been described by some as aglam version of Nirvana. Best known for hit songs such as " ", "

", " ", " ", "", " ", " ", " ", " ",

" " and a cover of " ". Their style has varied greatly:Their first album featured a raw sound and a fairly minimalist instrumental line-up, but following albums have had a slower, more melancholic tone and theystarted experimenting with synthesisers and other, less traditional, modes ofsound production (particularly after Black Market Music). To date, they havereleased six studio albums, six EPs and twenty-seven singles. They have gaineda considerable amount of international recognition and success having soldover one million albums in the UK and over ten million worldwide. THIRD THOUGHTS

"First thought, best thought," counseled thepoet Allen Ginsberg. But if the first thought isimmediate certainty and purity of heart, andthe second thought is the fall into self-con-sciousness, ambivalence, equivocation, andduplicity, then what is the third thought? Adescent into utter confusion? The rescue ofthesis and antithesis by their dialectical synthe-sis? Or something else altogether?

The exhibition Third Thoughts considers works that use writing and languagein ways that go beyond the univocal and the ambiguous to broach this thirdstate of thought. Among the artists included will be Mel Bochner, Luca Buvoli,Tony Cragg, Tsibi Geva, Monique Prieto, Kirstine Roepstorff, Suzanne McClel-land, Jack Pierson, Allen Ruppersberg, and Nedko Solakov.Group exhibition curated by Barry Schwabsky and Carol SzymanskiExhibitions opens on July 24 at 20:00 and runs until October 24.

One of the major British rock groups of the early eighties, hailing from Merseyside.Their output was pop music similar in style to that of the new romantics, but withstrong similarities to the post-punk movement of the early 1980's, namely inclusionof a broader range of musical influences and occasional flirtation with political com-mentary. They shared an affection for Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, and Brian Eno,which you can hear in their melodies and lyrics. Still touring and performing todaythey have performed at the 02 arena and over recent months have sold out venues inthe UK. Mallorca will welcome singer/songwriters, vocalist/keyboardist Garry Dalyand guitarist Eddie Lundon, who have been the main core of the band since it wasfirst formed back in 1979 in Kirby . They will be performing with four superb musi-cians; John Legit (drums), Eddie Robinson (bass), Glyn Williams (keyboard) and Col-in Hinds (guitar). Fans will not be disappointed as the band performs all theirfavourite songs interjected with anecdotes and a little Liverpudlian humour. Twotypes of tickets are on offer which include reserved seating on the raised terrace anda 3-course meal with wine & water for 40€ and general admission at 20€.

The Cranberries rose to international fame in the 1990s with their debut album,, which became a commercial suc-

cess and sold over five million copies in the United States. They were one of themost successful rock acts of the '90s and sold over 14.5 million albums in theUnited States alone. They have achieved four top 20 albums on the Billboard200 chart

and eight top 20 singles on theModern Rock Tracks chart ("Linger", "Dreams", "Zombie", "Ode to My Fami-ly", "Ridiculous Thoughts", "Salvation", "Free To Decide" and "Promises").In 2003 they announced they would be taking time out to pursue individual ca-reers but thankfully, as described on their official website, The Cranberries reu-nited in January 2009. They had indicated at the time that this did not signifyan official reunion, but things seem to have changed. In August 2009, in antici-pation of the release of her second solo album, No Baggage, DoloresO'Riordan announced that the Cranberries would be reuniting for a North Amer-ican tour to begin in November 2009, followed by dates in Europe in early2010, stating that the band would be playing songs from her solo albums anda lot of The Cranberries classic hits as well as some new group compositions. The band currently consists of Dolores O'Riordan, guitarist Noel Hogan, bassistMike Hogan, drummer Fergal Lawler from the original band along with DennyDeMarchi who played the keyboard, guitar and sang backing vocals onO'Riordan's solo albums joining in on the tour schedule.
