1.2 Introduction

In this battle report, we are debating about an important problem in nowadays society: decide whois mainly responsible for innovation in the technological area. In our vision of innovation, we used

2

three parameters which are social justice, prosperity and peace. At the last stage of the decision onlytwo candidates remains, so which one between the two leaders of the most powerful and importantcompanies in the technologic world should be invested as leader of the technological revolution. Our discussion is regarding our evaluation of two men: Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. The criteria weused for this decision were their attitude, their experience and their capabilities to solve problems butnot excluding the products they developed (hardware and software). Given that they are the foundersof Apple Inc. and Microsoft respectively, the method in which they lead their companies to successwill also be taken into account. Two teams were formed in order to support each candidate by giving concrete proof of the exceptionalcontribution they have given in building current society. In fact, almost everyone nowadays have heardabout them and use some of their devices and software in their normal life. The two teams chose acompletely different approach to engage the discussion: the team of Steve Jobs mainly focused on itsvisionary qualities and on characteristics of his revolutionary products while the team of Bill Gatesput its attention to the commitment of Gates in social and charity purposes.Taking into account all the contributions Steve Jobs and Bill Gates brought to their specific fields, thetwo commissions focused on three main parameters in order to decide which one could be the mostsuitable man to be awarded with the Nobel Prize. Specifically, each team focused on emphasizingthe benefits that each candidate brought to their company and to the world, while trying to coverproblems that came up during their life caused by wrong decisions. This was not only a technologicalproblem, but also a socio-economical one: their technologies innovated both in the scientific field and, above all, had an impact on people’s everyday life. The main question we asked ourselves and to the public was: having in mind what they did in thepast, who could bring more justice, prosperity and peace with his innovations? Who could be the onethat could lead our way out of the actual crisis? In this battle, we tried to give an answer to thesetricky questions.

1.3 Battleground

On the 3rd of October, the Swedish Royal Academy of Science, lead by professor Matteo SalvatoreBonifacio, assembled in Stockholm in order to decide which innovator and entrepreneur should beawarded with the Nobel Prize. The two main candidates were Steve Jobs and Bill Gates: one isthe legendary founder and CEO of Apple Inc., the other is the epic founder of Microsoft. To openthe debate, professor Bonifacio delegated the opening statement to Alessandro R., who presented theglobal, social and political situation of the world in the following way:

“The world that we once knew is going to collapse. There were moments when human kind couldhave the possibility to change its direction, but it didn’t. There were times when, in the name of pos-itive beliefs and ideals, greed and pride were used by politicians and businessmen to drive our entirelives in one direction: to achieve richness and wellness, on and on, without any boundaries that couldhave stopped them. The myth of the unlimited growth, now, has come to an end: the red dragon, thenation that once was known as the greatest of all, is facing the worst economic crisis in our history.China is not capable to be the engine of the global economy anymore, and it is relentlessly slowingdown, as a car run out of petrol. Meanwhile, in the United States, the race for the White House hasundergone an unexpected turn of events: one of the two candidates, the democratic Hillary Clinton, got sick with pneumonia. Consequently, American people thought that she could not be suitable for herrole, and the president newly elected, Donald Trump, has decided to build a wall which will separateNorth America from Mexico: ironic that a bacillus has decided the sort of an entire nation, isn’t it?According to the specialists, this kind of event will have a great impact on social classes, because ableto incite racist acts among people, with a new battle of the have-nots at the gates. So it is: socialunrests are recurrent, with governments forced to use army to calm things down, trying to maintainthe few order that remains.”

After this passionate speech that presented the catastrophic actual situation, two commissions

3

formed at the opposite side of the debate room and each one fought for one of the candidate in orderto make their leader win. The winner of the Nobel prize will be the leader of the revolution the worldneeds now. The term of comparison was the digital innovation in social justice, prosperity and peace. After the opening statement, the two commissions have been called to present their respective candi-date and give the reasons why one of them should be awarded with the Nobel Prize. Then, it was thetime for questions from the public about problems and doubts regarding the choice between the twocandidates. At the end of this part, the two commissions were asked to give a statement with finalconsiderations, taking into account the issues emerged from the public.

1.4 Steve Jobs View

1.4.1 Life, death and rebirth

In the middle of this international social, eco-nomic and political crisis, one of the most impor-tant entrepreneur in the information technologysector was Steve Jobs. In 1976 he founded Ap-ple, an IT company which developed a lot of in-novative products like Mac, Iphone and Ipad. Hewas also the CEO of Pixar and most of the goalsachieved by his own companies were the resultsof his capability to understand what people re-ally needed in their life and he built its productstaking in consideration simplicity and efficiency,by not omitting the beauty and elegance of theesthetic shape and form.Few years after his early death, some of the mostfamous and competent scientists across the globemanaged to cure his frozen body and bring himback to life perfectly healthy. When he cameback, a lot of people thought that he was the most suitable person in order to solve all the prob-lems that the world was facing at the time and they claimed that he should be awarded with theNobel Prize.

1.4.2 Social Justice, Prosperity, Peace

Our commission, formed by Jobs supporters, was charged to present our candidate and battle againstthe other commission by providing all the reasons and motivations about why he should have beenchosen above the other candidate (Bill Gates). In the ultimate day, the day in which the Nobel Prize would have been assigned, we were called to makea final presentation about Steve Jobs and to battle with the opposite faction in order to determinewhich one was the entrepreneur who would be able to lead our way out of this crisis bringing morepeace, social justice and prosperity exploiting his pre-developed innovation skills. We started ourpresentation by projecting a video in which we showed the current global situation: Trump wonthe election and he started building the wall between United States of America and Mexico. At theopposite side of the Atlantic ocean, United Kingdom, as the result of the referendum, exit the EuropeanUnion and the Deutsche Bank was sanctioned by 50 billion from USA. In China the economical growthstarted to slow down causing the collapse of many stock markets around the globe. After showing thecurrent catastrophic situation, the video ended with an unexpected event that may change the globalscenario: the resurrection of Steve Jobs. After the video, we presented the characteristic and quality of our candidate: attitude of leadership, mastery in public speaking, bravery in risk taking and in following his vision which brings a bigrevolution in technological area. After that, we showed his most successful products he managed tobring in the market: Apple 2, GUI, mouse, laser printers, iPhone, Ipad, Ipod, Macs and Apple TV.

4

Then we analyzed in detail every requirements the perfect candidate should fulfill in order to receivethe Nobel prize: social justice, prosperity and peace.Steve Jobs has played a big role in social justice by establishing a big collaboration network withthe greatest mind of his time. He was able to establish collaboration network finalizing only onegoal: achieve innovation in technological area. He also cared much about gender equality; he showedthis attitude by giving the same rights, importance, salary and position to women in his companies. In such a way, in contrast with the past (especially in technological companies) women started tobe considered as resources. He created many jobs not only for his companies’ workers but also forindependent developers which are now able to insert their applications in the app store of Appledevices. In this way, he created a working environment based on his operating system platformwithout direct control from his company.Speaking about his products, they are all as user-friendly as possible and they are easy to use evenfor children, elderly and people with no technological background. Buying his products also grants allthe software suite and no further licenses are needed in order to exploit the full features of it. Otherproducts from competitors usually need to be updated with expensive software to obtain the bestperformances and capabilities. With the settlement of Apple Stores in all the main cities around the globe, a highly qualified personnelis available to help the users solve their issues in a qualitative way and at any time. As mentionedbefore, Steve Jobs thought that beauty was an important factor in technological products so he usedhigh qualitative materials (such as aluminum, tempered glass, . . . ) in the construction. In this way, their products have a longer time of life and generally maintain the same performances over time.Buying his products is an awesome experience: the packaging is safe and perfectly designed and thestarting setup is clear and cool.Another important fact is the polyhedral capabilities of Steve Jobs. He managed to bring innovation inall aspect he was involved with, so he will be the best candidate to achieve innovation (and consequentprosperity) as the leader of the political and social revolution ahead. Last but not least, the softwaredeveloped by Steve Jobs’ company is known to be robust and secure against malicious attacks in respectto the other well known operating systems. In such a way, he grants more peaceful environment inwhich personal data are secure against third-party interaction.Another important fact is that he was willing to put differences aside in order to achieve his goals byeven working with his top competitors, so in a future scenario he will surely be able to renounce hisproud and rivalries for the common good. Since he brought revolution and innovation in every topiche touched, our commission thinks that the world now needs his revolutionary mind to take a bigchange and make things better.

1.4.3 Engaging phase

As expected, the topic was really in the spotlight and the discussion between the two commissions andthe Royal Academy was very passionate and it involved all the participants. The Royal Academy wasphysically separated in two sides in order to engage the discussion by making tricky questions. Theleft side was questioning the Bill Gates’ commission while the right one was questioning Steve Jobs’one. Many questions have been raised: the main doubts concerned the way Steve Jobs could have solvedthe possible problems of the current world situation of crisis. The first objection regarded the actualeconomic Chinese situation: as well known, the Chinese economy was currently falling down even ifthe industries of Steve Jobs were already settled in China. Therefore, what could he do different torestore this situation in a near future? We replied that China’s economic growth was slowing downbut not stopping and this is due to all other factories while Apple’s ones are actually growing andcreating more job positions by hiring more people working at their establishments. The winning ofSteve Jobs surely will lead more investments in China with a consequential economic growth. An additional question was about how Steve Jobs could guarantee security to everybody if it is relatedto its products. How could he help people who don’t use Apple devices? Being chosen as the leader ofthe needed revolution, Steve Jobs could implement his security policies (already used in his devices)to the public security system to achieve an improvement in peace. For example, public devices such

5

as the computers in a library would be more secure after the integration of Apple policies.Suddenly, in the middle of the discussion a guy stood in the middle of the class asking how couldbeauty help the world. Our reply was based on the fact that Steve Jobs is hoping to bring happinessin people’s life. And the best way to achieve this is to insert beauty as a factor in a market whereperformances and cost are the main parameters of quality estimation.Regarding GUI, we were accused to have stolen this invention and have used it to make money. Inour view, inventing something and implementing it by bringing to the market is a different thing. Theability of Steve Jobs in his career was in fact to decide which technology had a future in the marketand which one not.The last objection involved the topic of support and security updates: why does apple provide onlyone year of guarantee. Our answer was based on a percentage of Apple broken devices.Statistically, Apple products need a lot less technical assistance with respect to the competitor’s one.So the meaning of 1 year guarantee is only to prevent rarely native defects of the components.

1.4.4 Final statement

As conclusion, we think that Steve Jobs is the most suitable candidate for the Nobel prize. He startedfrom zero, leading his companies from the very beginning to the success. He managed to make hisidea and dreams come true by developing innovative and beautiful products that everyone even nowwants as important tools for their life and works. His rebirth gives us a big chance, we should give him the key to our society and let him decide thefollowing steps we need to take in order to exit this dark tunnel we are in right now. With this politicaland economical crisis, he is surely the best candidate to force world leaders to put differences asideso we will be able to restore a time without wars of any kind, without discrimination of sex and raceand without economic instability and fall.

1.5 Bill Gates View

1.5.1 Life of Bill Gates

In 1955 William Henry ”Bill” Gates III cameto the world. With his partner Paul Allen, in1975 founded a software company, known todayas “Microsoft”. Gates left his studies at HarvardUniversity to fulfill his dreams, taking a path thatwould lead him to be a great entrepreneur, busi-ness leader and philanthropist. He began computer programming at the age of13, at the age of 17 Gates teamed up with Allento form a venture called Traf-O-Data, to maketraffic counters based on the Intel 8008 proces-sor. He drop-out of his studies and shifted thegears of the software industry in collaborationwith Paul Allen with the foundation of Microsoftin 1975. His company achieved great accomplish-ments with the separation between hardware andsoftware creating MS-Dos and then the Windows OS which conquered about 90% of market share.Besides, Gates become one of the top billionaires in the world and kept his role as chairman of Mi-crosoft up to 2014.Moreover, with his wife Melinda, he found a charity organization called Bill & Melinda Gates founda-tion to support poor people around the world. To help this mission, in June 2010 he announced thegiving pledge with Warren Buffet, which as of today $365 billion have been pledged by 139 individuals.

1.5.2 Social Justice, Prosperity, Peace

Bill Gates is certainly the best candidate to bring positive change in peace, prosperity and socialjustice around the world. Social justice is defined as the fair and just relation between the individualand society, and it is measured in terms of distribution of wealth, opportunities and social privileges.Prosperity, instead, “is the state of flourishing, thriving, good fortune or successful social status. Pros-perity often encompasses wealth but also includes other factors which can be independent of wealthto varying degrees, such as happiness and health” (Wikipedia). These two terms are connected and inour opinion have to be analyzed together, indeed a prosperous society easily provides also social justiceto the people, and respectively if social justice is guaranteed, then prosperity is a logical consequencethrough the good workings of the society. In terms of wealth, one can say that Bill Gates is probably richer than anyone else on the planetand as a consequence he has more opportunities and privileges than others. This is undoubtedly truebut the big difference between him and most of the richest people in the world is his commitment togive a fair share of opportunities to everyone. He is not only a visionary technologist and unmatchedentrepreneur, but also an admirable philanthropist, who is ready to employ all his tremendous wealthto support social causes and improve the poorer lives. The endeavor of bringing more equality into the world started with technology during the early daysof Microsoft, funded by Gates and Allen with the aim of bringing affordable computers into everyone’shome.

”Our vision is to create innovative technology that is accessible to everyone and that adapts toeach person’s needs. Accessible technology eliminates barriers for people with disabilities and it enablesindividuals to take full advantage of their capabilities”. [Bill Gates and Paul Allen]

As often happens nowadays this phrase can be seen as a bare business idea, where the size of thetarget and the number of the customers are maximized, masked with a social motivation. Actuallyit’s not so trivial. Bill Gates and Paul Allen were not just entrepreneurs, it is this vision indeedthat led Microsoft to immediate success and kept it growing into the company we know today. Theenthusiasm, interest and personal motivation contained in it are real. Thanks to these ideals, Microsoft has really achieved what was believed impossible: cheap, affordablehardware into everyone’s home. Through standardization of software and hardware, Microsoft hasenabled a plethora of companies to create their own affordable machines that would run the samesoftware. All this blurred the line between work and play and increased productivity, mainly thanksto the Office Suite, and enabled people to be more connected.Since when Gates started Microsoft, he had already foreseen the potential of the personal computerand all the opportunities that it could bring to the everyday person, we can see that the world we livein today is deeply influenced by his vision. Moreover, before this technological revolution, just rich people and specialized companies could affordto buy hardware; so Microsoft helped also in increasing equality between people and as a result de-creasing social tensions and thus maintaining peace.

As stated above, Bill Gates, aside from being a successful entrepreneur, is also a great philan-thropist. With the help of his wife, he funded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The primaryaims of the foundation are, globally, to enhance healthcare, reduce extreme poverty, and, in America,to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology. The foundation has anendowment of nearly 50 billion dollars, 30 of which were donated by Gates himself.

In creating the foundation Gates decided to leave behind the role of CEO at Microsoft in order todedicate himself fully in this endeavor. In fact, he did not just start to write charity checks, but toactively search and devise solutions to improve the poorer quality of life. He is actually flying over todangerous countries where he wants to invest, meeting the people that will eventually benefit from hisdonations, and seeing the fruits of his efforts. Indeed, this is one of the key facts that distinguish himfrom usual benefactors who pledge their money for good causes. Bill Gates actually gets his hands

7

“dirty” with the people he is trying to help, he makes physical contact with them, he talks and sharesideas with the same people that his money is going to cure. Never before a rich benefactor had donethis so extensively, his involvement is not just dispensing money, but active participation. We can saythat Bill Gates is not only saving millions of lives around the world, but is helping to restore hopeand human dignity to the least privileged of our global family and that is something that we shouldhonor. Not only he is committing himself and his money, but he is also trying to convince other rich peopleto do the same. To do this, he funded the Giving Pledge, which goal is to inspire the wealthy peopleof the world to give the majority of their net worth to philanthropy, either during their lifetime orupon their death. Many important and wealthy people have already signed up.

1.5.3 Engaging phase

Even if Bill is known to be a really generous philanthropist, things not have been always so. As amatter of fact until the early 2000s he was considered as an selfish, ruthless and glacial monopolist;that’s why this sudden change, as it can be imagined, has always aroused suspicions in many people, who tried to understand what it was due to.So it should not be a surprise the fact that the commission wanted to figure out if there was some sortof hidden agendas which were ruling Gates’ actions and efforts in China. These could be summed upinto two sharp and pragmatic questions: what will Bill Gates do in order to save the China situation? Is he helping the poorest, or is he merely creating new clients? If you think about that, history talksfor Bill: as a matter of fact we all should be grateful to him, because if there is at least a PC inevery house, it is only thanks to Gates’ policy about costs abatement. So yes, he is expanding hismarket in China also to create new clients, but this has only good consequences on chinese population, because this way Bill is allowing them to have cheap and powerful devices, helping them in growingtechnologically and economically. Moreover, the commission focused also on the software Gates has provided until now. The main topic,in this case, was its “bugginess” and low user-friendly design. As far as this is concerned, people complain that if users have to spend a lot of money in technicalsupport - both because of a buggy system and an inefficient and abstruse problem-solving guidedprocedure - the gain, especially for the poorest ones, is near to zero, while it could be smarter spenda bit more for a Apple computer, which does not apparently have so many issues. What people usually tend not to consider is the fact that there is a precise reason why a Microsoftenvironment is more complicated to manage with respect to an Apple one, and in a certain sense it iscorrelated to the vision of the respective leaders. As a matter of fact it is really simpler to create a protected environment with less possible threatscoming from the environment, by building a system which allows you to do nothing more than whatit is strictly supposed to do. Bill’s vision is different: what he wants is to give people the possibilityto do what they want with their devices, providing a more open environment. All this freedom, unfortunately, has a downside: it’s indeed also easier to make mistakes for the user, and performunsafe operations without even realize it. But the problem here is not about the software, but aboutthe people: they are quite new to this technology, and like every new interaction, they have to beeducated to it; the only way to do this on a very large scale, however, is to provide them with low-costdevices that everyone can afford. This last concept partially answered to another doubt raised bysome commissioners: what is Bill going to do to improve the user experience for people who can affordonly low-end devices, which usually are the ones with the highest number of issues?Actually if you think about that, Gates has already started a path in this sense. As a matter of fact, the basic idea of his last operative system, Windows 10, is to have the same in-depth structure on allthe possible devices, from the most performing (high-end PCs) to the less ones (low-end smartphones, consoles, etc...). This has the clear purpose of guaranteeing the same possibilities and behaviours toall of them.To conclude, the indian scandal topic arose: indeed, Gates’ foundation was under inquest for thedistribution of a vaccine that provoked the death of some girls, and Gates’ entourage has been askedto answer to this charge. What emerged is that these vaccines were totally approved by the central

8

Indian government prior to the dissemination. Moreover, of the 30,000 girls who participated in theevent, only 7 grew ill and died, a really small number. Furthermore, statistically speaking, it wasdetermined that these girls were killed by factors not related to the administered medicals.

1.5.4 Final statement

We think that all the reasons given above make Bill Gates the best choice for the award of the NobelPrize for the technological revolution. Thanks to Microsoft everyone can now have an affordable computer in their homes, everyone hasaccess to the digital world through commodity hardware.

Not only a technological leader but also a caring person for our global family, Bill Gates hassaved millions of lives, provided cure for diseases, and brought hope to those less privileged; with hisphilanthropic works, he helped in preserving global peace. We are sure that Bill Gates has just started and in a future scenario he will be able to touch manymore lives, saving millions and bringing the much needed peace and prosperity our world really needs.

1.6 Reconciliation: A meeting point

2020: In a world where everything is going even worse, bent by the worst economic crisis history hasever known, the Swedish Royal Academy of Science decided to take hold of the problem, establish-ing a “Digital Transformation” prize to award and stimulate the best minds on Earth. Steve Jobs,in the meanwhile awaken from his cryogenic sleep and cured from his cancer thanks to new healingtechniques, and Bill Gates, who got bored with his retired life, decided to try to achieve it, one of thefew awards missing from their showcase. However, they understand that challenging each other would benefit just one of them, and it wouldnot be for the best of the world. This continuous fight would only lead to conflicts between themselves, their companies and even people sustaining each part.Considering this fact, the Swedish Royal Academy with Gates and Jobs themselves, decided after along debate to share the prize and therefore the responsibility to try to solve the current world crisis. In order to promote this solution, the two leaders decided to start a new company sharing the strongpoints of both Microsoft and Apple. Doing this they found a way to join values, ideas and even capitalsof the two original companies controlled by Gates and Jobs. They wanted to keep their fame and theirpopularity so they decided to call the new company MicroApple, a name that obviously recalls to both.

Notwithstanding their willpower and their dedicationto this colossal task, the leadership capabilities of thetwo minds were clashing: as a matter of fact, few hoursbefore a fundamental board of directors which maingoal was to decide between moving on towards thedirection suggested by Steve or the one proposed byBill in a certain device development, Gates slipperedon some soap exiting from the shower, fell and hit hishead on the ground. This unfortunate accident causedhim a loss of memory for a couple of days, prevent-ing him to make his speech and to vote. As you canimagine, the event caused a black swan effect: Gatesfaction lost as some of his supporters changed faction, and Jobs’ proposal was approved. When Gates recov-ered and realized what had happened, he went on a rampage. After that an internal war begun, causing a total arrest of the company development.2022 was the year in which the company definitely crashed: the straw that broke the camel’s backwas the controversy on the behaviour to hold with respect to chinese workers. As a matter of fact, the manufacturing plants that produced hardware for Apple in the last decades were exploited by

9

MicroApple; Jobs’ idea was indeed not to leave them in the storm of China’s crisis but to help themearning and working, benefitting of a lower production price. The situation was quite complex as thehealth level of the workers decreased with the crisis, but Jobs thought this operation was crucial inorder to keep retail prices low. Indeed after the fusion there were no more competitors and despite theprices could raise, MicroApple wanted to guarantee equality as most as possible in technology access.Gates, instead, was more interested in bringing human rights to chinese workers. In fact, his B&MGates Foundation was employing about the 45% of its possibilities and resources just in chinese issues. His point was that MicroApple production was not just Chinese: 30% was korean and another 20%from other asian countries and Gates was convinced that the non-chinese 50% of the production couldbe improved a lot. He managed to get a report from a famous German research team stating that justthe non-chinese plants could increase the production efficiency by 47%, exploiting some innovativeimprovements that were ready to be implemented. Unfortunately for him Jobs said that it was “fakeand fraudulent” starting several legal procedures against Gates and his team. After some months, asanyone expected, Gates and Jobs gave up. The company shares depreciated at unbelievable speeds. They managed to sell a big part of them to Tesla-Samsung Technologies (TST) group before it wastoo late. The group became the owner of their patents, a great fortune. From December 2022 media and journalists couldn’t manage to have news about Steve Jobs andWilliam Gates, they had just disappeared. The strange fact was that they did it together withoutanyone knowing anything. A lot of fake news were published after MicroApple crashed, but the onlyreal ones about the situation was related to how TST was exploiting MicroApple resources. Theydidn’t publish or declare anything about this but rumors said that they followed both the Gates andJobs strategies to improve their production putting in background every MicroApple activity. Alsothe B&M foundation had a black period. Gates’ wife, Melinda, never lost her confidentiality aboutthe argument, but many opinionists noticed that something was missing. In their opinion Melindacouldn’t communicate with Bill wherever he was. In fact she wasn’t able to manage the foundationby herself as Bill did jointly with her.The truth was in an alliance between the two. Before starting the joint venture, having such a re-sponsibility over the whole world destiny, Bill and Steve agreed on an extreme solution to be actuatedin what they called “cases of joint psychological failure”. This situation is detected by an externalsecret commission, named Jobs-Gates stability commission. In such a case, a friend of both Gates’and Jobs’, a himalayan monk named Tenzin Quduqu, has to take the control with a really specialtherapy. Tenzin was born in Chhusang, in the southern Tibet and became a monk at early age. Hethen left his work in the monastery and moved to USA. Tenzin got his PhD in psychology at StanfordUniversity at 29 years and became a great sociologist. In 2020, engaged by Bill and Steve, he left hiswork in research and became a member of the Jobs-Gates stability commission. After their crash in 2022 Gates and Jobs moved to Himalaya with Tenzin to his monastery. Nobodybut them know what happened there.March 2024: after 6 years of crisis the world was out of control. Governments lost their supremacyin granting order and criminality continued growing. A lot of auto-proclaimed nations born, the popemoved away from the Vatican state and declared, through the Vatican’s media, that he was scaredabout the world’s situation and that he would have continued to remotely assist the faithfuls publish-ing letters and videos through the Vatican’s web site.Providentially, it was exactly in that moment that Jobs and Gates completed their internal path, beingconvinced by the monk that the only way to become immortal is to write one of the most importantpages of mankind history, saving humanity from this endless fall. They understood that nothing ismore important than other’s people well being, and that it is a goal reachable only merging their bestqualities. So they quickly took the first available flight and came back to San Francisco, where Silicon Valleywas waiting for its two brightest minds. Once landed there, they suddenly invested a huge part oftheir assets in founding a new company, the Applesoft. They rapidly hired all the most brilliant mindsthat were working at MicroApple, and suddenly started to work on the new project they hoped wouldsave humankind: iConnect.iConnect is based on a simple but brilliant idea; as a matter of fact, it is a reward based social net-

work, an enormous social platform everyone can decide freely to subscribe to. Basically it is composednot only by the social network component, but also by lots of different virtual enterprises, as virtualbakery, where you can buy food online and receive it at home, virtual psychologist offices to havevirtual sessions via Skype, virtual art exhibits and so on. This system ranks everyone on the basisof a social reward given both by the platform itself and by the users to other users. The rewards aregiven upon “kind and loving actions” to other people, in order to motivate them to help each other.Clearly, as it is in every society, the way users behave grants them better or worse consequences. Asa matter of fact, if you maintain a bad conduct, you will have lot of malus, for instance an incrementof the price of goods you can buy on the online market present within the platform. Obviously alsothe reverse holds: not causing troubles, doing good actions and so on will make you rapidly climb thesocial rank, allowing you more and more benefits. Obviously all of this comes at a price: privacy. As a matter of fact once you decide to participate, you allow the government to have all your datastored and put under control, even if respecting a specific privacy policy. This way every governmentcould supervise the behaviour of every subscribed citizen, with the possibility of foiling eventual terror-istic attacks, thus increasing even the international security and not only the wealth of the community. But people, who however maintain the property of their personal data (which webpages they visited, what they bought, what they have googled,...), can also decide to sell these information to companies,in order to allow them to understand what are their needs and main interests, and propose the rightproducts, this way improving even more the economy.

This idea would have never been possible with-out the cooperation between the two geniuses: in factit merged Gates’ policy about spreading technologythrough lower costs (the social network is free for all)and Jobs’ attention to ”user-friendliness”, making itas easy as possible to use even for the elders. Thanks to this new social platform, people started tobehave, to make good actions. This lead to a decreaseof the crime rate, because people like to be rewardedreceiving gifts, voucher and other stuff. Moreover, with an ad hoc advertisement and reward system, companies were able to increase their sales, restoringand improving the global economy. This social platform improved the globalization, started by Internet and social networks in the pastyears. People started to be more friendly with foreigners, avoiding racism, hate and other bad feelings. Therefore, the two leaders were able to restore peace, prosperity and social justice to the world thanksto the new special social network, showing that both of them deserved to receive the “Digital trans-formation” Nobel prize.

1.7 Conclusions

To summarize it over, the battle ended with a tie between the two teams, because we have realizedthat each candidate has abilities that compensate the defects of the other one, which means that ateam composed by Steve Jobs and Bill Gates would be, thanks to the capabilities of the two leaders, the best way to solve the global crisis. From this fact, since they are sharing the Nobel prize, they should also work together to address thecrisis of the world and bring back peace, prosperity, social justice. This leads the two of them to founda new company, called MicroApple which is the merger of the names of the two candidate’s companies. At this point, the two leaders are in an uncertain environment; they must search knowledge throughprocedures to find possible data and decide the right choices to improve the global situation. In anuncertain environment, the entrepreneurs are seekers. Founding a new company helped the two ofthem to work together and to find knowledge more quickly, but unfortunately, the two leaders havedifferent views and two separate decision rules. As an example, Steve Jobs selects the best option among the various possibilities, basing his choiceon his reasoning and his ideas, while Bill Gates prefers to consider all risks before making a decision,

he would rather analyze the situation, weigh all the possible outcomes and choose the safest and mostreliable one. These two different ways to make decisions lead to different and contrasting ideas whichcannot work together. In the specific, Steve Jobs made risky decisions that, in a case of success, could lead to excellentresults, while Bill Gates preferred to make safer decisions, with fewer results. From this problem,to decide on which idea they should work, they decided to choose the best option based on people’spreferences. In this story, it happened a black swan, an unpredictable event which caused the big effect. Specifically,Bill Gates had an accident which caused significant changes in the company: the victory of Steve Jobs’idea and the beginning of a conflict between the two leaders.Furthermore, this internal war brought to an end the collaboration between the two candidates, theirdisappearance and the sale of MicroApple to Tesla-Samsung Technologies. We have considered that accident as the black swan because for an unpredictable event, the uniquesolution to solve the global crisis expired, the two leaders disappeared and all these brought morechaos to the world. Furthermore, we have decided to stop their collaboration because they have neveractually worked together, they have always had conflicts between them, so they need to change theirpersonalities, they must grow up and learn to put their differences aside and work together to restorethe global crisis. Therefore, this is the reason why the company and the collaboration failed, and they went to TenzinQuduqu, a Himalayan monk, who, using an appropriate therapy, was able to help and to teach to thetwo leaders to work in a team. After the therapy, the Steve Jobs and Bill Gates came back to thesociety, ready to bring back peace, prosperity and social justice in this world, to solve the crisis thatgrew up during their period of absence.Using a bounded procedural rationality, because they don’t have enough time to acquire all possibleinformation, they found a solution to this global crisis, launching a new social platform. This socialnetwork is used by everyone; it tries to motivate people to do good actions by giving rewards to them. Moreover, this solution must also solve the global economy, so we decided to add a feature to thesocial network that allows companies to sell products directly to the right customers, increasing a lotthe sales of all the goods. Of course, this algorithm follows the privacy policies of people. This socialnetwork is designed to improve the economy, the social behavior and reduce the crimes, therefore torestore the global crisis and bring back prosperity, peace, and social justice. The reason why we decided to introduce a social platform in our fairy tale to solve most of theproblems is that the Nobel prize is focused on digital transformation. Moreover, the solution shouldbe something digital that interact with the society, so we believe that the best solution could be aunique social network that could help to improve the behavior of people.Furthermore, as Facebook changed our society modeling the environment by introducing new waysof interactions between people, we believe that a similar idea might be a good solution. The maindifference is that it does not focus on friendship but society, because we want to bring back peace, prosperity, social justice and the best way to do this is to motivate people to change their lifestyle bymaking good actions.
