BorninQueens,NewYork,LuciaMicarelliwasimmersedintheartsbytheageofthree,diligentlypracticingdance,
piano,andviolin.Itdidn’ttakelongtodiscoverherpassionandgreatesttalentwastheviolin,whichquicklybecamehermainfocus.AftermovingtoHawaiiattheageoffive,shecontinuedtorefineherskillsontheviolin,andjustayearlater,madeherdebutasasoloistwiththeHonoluluSymphonyOrchestra.Soonafter,shebeganfrequentlyappearingonlocaltelevisionshowsandconcertizingthroughouttheislands.
Atage11,MicarelliwasacceptedintotheJuilliardSchoolofMusic’sPre-CollegeDivision.ShestudiedwiththerenownedviolinpedagogueDorothyDeLay,andalsotooklessonswithItzhakPerlman,Cho-LiangLin,andWon-BinYim.Withinayear,playingagainstsomeoftheworld’smostgiftedprodigies,shewonthePre-CollegeConcertoCompetitionandsettledintoaroutinethatwouldcombineinstructionwithconcertappearancesattheHollywoodBowl,LincolnCenter,andotherprominentinternationalvenues.ShespenthersummersattheAspenMusicFestival,regularlyperformingwiththeorchestra,andwontheViolinConcertoCompetitionin2000,resultinginaperformanceoftheTchaikovskyViolinConcertowiththeFestivalOrchestra.
At17,MicarellileftJuilliardtoattendtheManhattanSchoolofMusic,whereshestudiedwithcelebratedinternationalviolinistPinchasZukerman.Itwasduringthistimethatshebegantodevelopagrowinginterestinnon-classicalmusic,moonlightingwithlocaljazzandrockbandsinNewYorkclubs.Bythefollowingyear,shehadacceptedanoffertotourwiththeTrans-SiberianOrchestraasafeaturedviolinistandconcertmaster.
Overthelasttenyears,Micarelli’sprofilehascontinuedtosoar.She’sbeenafeaturedsoloistintwoofJoshGroban’sworldtours,touredextensivelywithChrisBotti,andwasfeaturedinhis“LivefromBoston”PBSspecial(fromwhichtheduettheyperformedtogether,“Emmanuel,”hasreceivedmorethanfivemillionYouTubeviews),andwasfeaturedinBarbraStreisand’s2013internationaltour.Shealsoreleasedtwosoloalbums,Music from a Farther Room andInterlude.But2009sawLuciabroadeninghercareerevenfurtherwhenshewascastinthestarringroleofAnnieinHBO’scriticallyacclaimedseries,“Treme,”whichranforfourseasonsandwonaPeabodyAwardandaPrimetimeEmmyAward.
