DICKSON CHILDREN CENTRE Newsletter

Dear Dickson Family Friends,

Much greetings from all of us in Mombasa. We are all doing well and thank God for giving us health and protection.

We added one boy to our family, his name is Kelvin.

He is the little brother of Cynthia. Their father is in

prison and their mother is an alcoholic and living on

the street. Kelvin was admitted in another boy’s

home, but the Children Department requested us to

take him in our centre so the siblings could be to-

gether. Cynthia is very happy to have her brother

close by; it makes both of the children to feel more

at home. Kelvin is 4 years old and is now in our Dick-

son Nursery School. We look for sponsors for Kelvin.

Easter

Why are we painting eggs with Easter? Most of the

Dickson children know the answer, because we nor-

mally keep this tradition every year with Easter, but

the new children and most of our volunteers don’t

know. We tell the children that with Easter we cele-

brate that the Lord Jesus has risen from the death

and He gives new life to all who believe in Him. The

egg symbolizes the new life when it hatches. The

children have a lot of fun painting the eggs and it

has proven over the years that it is not possible to

keep those eggs to Easter morning, so ……let’s wash

hands and eat them!

June 2012 Newsletter

Since we have been able to trace most of the children’s

birthdays, we started to celebrate them. Every end of the

month we celebrate all birthdays from that month. Due to

some delays we celebrated this time 2 months so we had a

big party of 10 birthdays at one go!

Teenager camp

The Youth mission YWAM organized a teenager camp

and all our teenagers were invited. In the morning there

were bible studies and discussion groups and in the after-

noon sports and creative activities, which were organized

by a team from South Africa. They had a lot of fun, as

well as good quality time with the youth leaders and

prayer times. The theme of the camp was “it’s possible”

and the themes of the day were divided in the “Faith”,

“Love” and “Hope”.

Dutch Water donates every week drinking water to our cen-

tre. This time we were also blessed with a laptop for the of-

fice. Thank you very much Dutch Water!

Ria celebrated her birthday with both centers. The older girls

made the cake and when the candles were lightened the chil-

dren counted this time with ten at a go (10, 20 …)!

Dutch Water

We had a volunteer from Holland and one from Belgium;

they are a blessing to us in helping in the house, in the nurs-

ery school and helping with the home work. They also or-

ganize games and give much needed personal attention to the

children.

Volunteers

MONTH YEAR VOL # ISSUE #

Our nursery school starts every morning with happy songs

for God and prayer. We have 3 classes with their teachers.

There are in total 36 children, whereby 20 children are in our

sponsor program, from the nearby slum areas. Two new

boys in our sponsor program are new; Chris and Rocha.

Chris comes from a family of 3 children. His parents came

to town to look for work, but up till now his father is jobless;

his mother sells some vegetable. Chris was some years back

in the nursery school in the village, but because of lack of

school fees dropped out; since than he is at home. Chris is

now 7 years old and very happy to come to school.

We admitted also Rocha, he is 7 years old. He comes from a

family of seven children. The family had to move when their

houses were destroyed. The father is a fisherman, their

mother has died. Rocha has not gone to school yet, he is a bit

anxious but happy to have a chance to go to school.

We are still looking for sponsors;

If you would like to sponsor

Chris or Rocha, you can contact

us through our website.

Dickson Academy – Montessori

Nursery School

We get many requests

for help, but we normally

say we can help only

orphans and destitute

children, who are spe-

cific brought by the Chil-

dren Department. How-

ever mama Lilian case

was so desperate that we

could not sent her away.

Orphan herself, she has

struggled throughout her

life. As a child she

looked for jobs, so she

could pay for her own

school fees. Unfortu-

nately she got a husband who was not faithful and through

him she attracted HIV/AIDS when she was pregnant from

Grace, who also got infected. The husband ran away leaving

mama Lilian alone, with three children. She is often very

sick and not able to work. We pay house rent and electricity

for her, give her sometimes some food when we have and

pay school fees for the children, when we are able. We look

for sponsors for this family, so that mama Lilian can con-

tinue to care for her family.

to make wrong choices, she gets counseling.

Thanks very much for your support; we also appreciate your
