Reliability

Do you like to help out? Can other people rely on

you/depend on you? Do you keep your promises and stand

by others who may be in need? These are some important

qualities to have. People appreciate others for many

reasons particularly if they know they can be relied upon

to: lend a hand, give advice, look after pets when

neighbours are away on holiday, complete a task at school

and be supportive of them.

It’s important to know that there are people in our lives

who we can rely on: at home, at school or in the

community. We can support others at play, while we work

but sometimes it is the help that we give when it is least

expected that means the most! Knowing that we can be

relied upon has a twofold effect: helping others can make

us feel good about ourselves too.

Being reliable demonstrates that we have many of the

following characteristics and qualities. We are:

• dependable and can be relied upon in most

situations

• certain about what we can do and prepared to

have-a-go

• constant for people and will persist in our efforts

to help others

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Parent Newsletter Week 3 T4

• Athletic Results

• Planning for 2017 – parent requests need to

be in writing

• Swiss Italian Festa

Our largest ever team competed at the Greater

Western Athletics event in Ballarat last Friday. I was

immensely proud of our students for getting this far

and by their performances and attitude on the day.

There were a number of personal ‘best performances’

laced in between some outstanding performances.

We have Lila Parr progressing through to the State

Finals in H.J., joining her is James Childs in the 1500m

and Charlotte Streat in the 800m & 1500m. Sebastian

Street has also qualified for the State Finals in 800m

& 1500m. The 4 x 100m U11 Boys relay team of

James Childs, Jed Resuggan, Michael Armstrong, and

Josiah Pattinson ran a terrific relay and they too have

qualified to compete in Melbourne next week.

Congratulations to all 22 students who competed last

week at Llanberris and all the best to the 7 children

competing in Melbourne at the State Finals next

week.

As I continue to put planning in place for 2017, I once

again offer parents/carers the opportunity to have

input into their child’s placement within our

classroom structure. All requests will be looked at and

considered. They must be submitted in writing before

the end of this month October.

Mask making continued in our Family Groups this

week, the Specialist Captains helped Trudi prepare

and repair the banners and all is in place for the Swiss

Italian Festa this weekend.

Congratulations to the children who were recognised

for their art work in the Landscape Art Competition

which was announced on Wednesday night at

Hepburn P.S. Finally, I hope to see you at the Parade

on Saturday.

HEALTHY FOOD TIP

How to get more fruit and vegetables into your day.

Sometimes it’s not easy to meet the recommended serves of fruit and vegetables each day. Below are some handy tips to help increase the amount of fruit and vegetables you are including in your diet!

•••• Add salad to your sandwich. Try grated carrot

or cucumber in a cheese or peanut butter

sandwich. Spinach leaves, tomato, finely cut up

onion and mushrooms work well in a toasted

ham or cheese sandwich.

•••• Serve fruit for morning and afternoon tea, or

try carrot or cucumber sticks. Chop the fruit and

vegetables up in the morning and store in air-

tight containers in the fridge for when you get

hungry.

•••• Include fruit in your breakfast. Blend up a fruit

and vegetable smoothie with some strawberries,

baby spinach or banana and reduced fat milk.

Below you will find a recipe for some fruity icy-poles which are a great after school snack for the warmer months of the year.

Ingredients : Choose seasonal fruits such as • watermelon

• grapes

• orange

• berries

• banana

• mango

• kiwi

• ripe pear

• grapefruit

• nectarine

• peach

• plum

Method 1. Blend or juice fruit individually and pour into separate jugs. (For example, put orange juice into one jug, watermelon into another.)

2. Choose the fruit juice you want to have at the top of the icy pole and fill one third of the icy pole mould.

3. Put into the freezer until juice has frozen.

4. Repeat the process, but this time fill the icy pole mould to two thirds with your second fruit juice, place an icy pole stick in and freeze.

5. Add the final layer of fruit juice and freeze. Tips • You can make the icy poles with 3 to 5 alternating layers of fruit juice, or using all different fruits.

• As a general guide, to make four icy poles, try the following: blend 3 kiwi fruits with 1 small banana, 1 large orange juiced, and blend 1½ cups of mixed berries to make 3 alternating layers.

• Once frozen, you can remove the icy poles from the moulds, wrap in cling wrap and store in a large container until needed.

• Remember, juicing your own fruit or choosing 100% fruit juice is best – commercial juices often contain added sugars.

• To increase dairy intake, alternate fruit layers with reduced fat yoghurt or mix yoghurt with banana.
