A VIEW TO THE FUTURE

Bren’s Banter

Dear Families and Friends, Well, what a fantastic (and busy!) term three we’ve had together. Highlights have included GemBook Week, Special Friends Day, Book Fair, SRC and Student Voice, Produce Markets and Sustainable Days, Kmotion, Trivia Night, Footy Day, Real Girls and Standing Tall senior school programs, and our Circus Production on Monday evening. Of course teachers and staff have worked hard this term, often planning and running these extra programs in addition to their normal workload of teaching, learning, planning, and assessing. No wonder we are all looking forward to the holidays! With Gratitude! Many of the programs and activities listed above, as well as classroom support and extra help around the school, happen with the assistance of mums, dads, carers, our awesome Parents and Friends Association and community volunteers as well as our magnificent Mr. Watson. As a school, we really value and appreciate the commitment that you make to help make our school the vibrant, welcoming, progressive and innovative ‘place of learning’ of which we are all so proud. Circus Production: What a great evening of entertainment was had by all at last Monday’s Circus Production. Great circus skills were in evidence with our students giving their absolute all in their grade performances across both shows. It was fantastic to see the sheer level of commitment and enthusiasm that our

students, across all year levels, brought to the show. A big thank you to Hayley and Sergei from The Circus Crew as well as Shelley, Carol and Natalie in the office, who organised ticket sales and seating. Thank you to our amazing students, staff and teachers and finally, thank you for coming along on the night and supporting your children and the school so well. Many thanks to Charlotte W, a former Gembrook student, for all her help with ushering.

Standing Tall and Real Girls: Our grade 5 and 6 boys celebrated completing the Standing Tall program last Thursday by getting themselves ‘centred and grounded’, concentrating their positive energy and mindset and then breaking a board with their bare hands! The program was about developing and improving self esteem, awareness , respect for self and others and cohesion through a martial arts perspective. At the same time, our grade 5 and 6 girls completed the Real Girls program. Topics covered included friendship and friendship groups, dealing with arguments, forgiveness and safe online communication. A huge thank you to Yale Mercieca and Jody Yandle, our School Wellbeing Officer, for running these two great programs. Kmotion Family Fun Afternoon & Fundraiser for Mr Fraser (Rockin’ the JLC!!!!): Wow! What an incredible afternoon we had last Saturday as we came together for our Kmotion Family Fun afternoon. The afternoon was also a dedicated fundraiser for Mr. Fraser and his family and it really was quite emotional seeing the huge number of people in attendance, so generously supporting both the Kmotion program and Mr. Fraser. It was lovely seeing the JLC literally bursting at the seams as kids enjoyed lots of great Kmotion activities and we all got to hear some fantastic music from ‘Exploded View’, ‘Eddie Cole’, ‘Stez and Maz!’ and of course the hugely popular local band ‘The Seven Thirty Thursdays’. The community spirit throughout the afternoon was palpable and thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets, sausages, coffees, sketches, and donated money to our busy buskers!

Principal

Thank you to everyone who made this afternoon so special including Naomi, Lynda, Owen and all the mighty team at St. Lukes Cockatoo, Caitlin, Mrs. Liston’s daughter who donated her considera-ble artistic skills, all of our brilliant and generous musos!, Macclesfield Primary School, Steve from the Monbulk Cricket Club and Mark from the Monbulk Football and Netball Club. Thank you to the MANY people who donated prizes for the Fraser Family Raffle. Your generosity is very much appreciated. Tickets are still available and the raffle will be drawn on Friday 2nd November at assembly. A special thank you to Mr. Fraser for attending with his family and making the afternoon even more special. It was an afternoon I’ll never forget.

Farewell Carol: It is very much with mixed emotions that we say farewell to our much loved Carol on Friday. Of course we wish Carol a fantastic and very well deserved retirement, how-ever we will all miss Carol like anything. Vital ingredients for any successful school include calm, friendly, understanding and efficient office staff and we have been blessed at Gembrook to have that in spades with Shelley, Nat and Carol. Personally, it’s been a privilege getting to know Carol over the past two and a bit years (yes time flies doesn’t it!) and we have all benefited from Carol’s beautiful smile, calm and caring nature and keen (and ever so slightly wicked) sense of humour! Carol thank you for everything you’ve done at Gembrook Primary School, we wish you nothing but health and happiness and a long and happy retirement.

Just a reminder that school finishes tomorrow at 2:30pm.

Happy holidays everyone and thank you for an awesome term! See you all in term four (Monday 8th October) for another exciting term of learning at Gembrook Primary School! All the best

A Note from Mrs Drew

As we come nearer to the end of another term, the soaring confidence of many students has been noticed. Most educators strive to assist students to become independent and confident learners and it is such a thrill when we see this eventuate. Through positive reinforcement, care, kindness, high expectations, support and encouragement to take risks, students become self-assured and confident in their own abilities. This composure furthers each student to want to learn more and the positive cycle continues. For myself, this is one of the greatest joys as a teacher. I know it is every parent’s wish to see their child’s love of learning grow and to feel comfortable in their ability. So congratulations to the many students who are feeling great about themselves and their learning. To those students who are struggling at the beginning of this learning journey…..you should be proud of the effort you have put in so far. Parents, remind your children to keep their chin up and continue to place effort in their learning!

Bye for now Mrs Drew
