Association of Prosecuting Attorneys’ Animal Cruelty Advisory Council,

Outstanding Investigation and Case Award, as well as the Public Service

Dr. Grigg has a master’s degree in animal behavior and physiology

from San Francisco State University, a Ph.D. in ecology from the

University of California, Davis, and certification in applied animal

behavior from the Animal Behavior Society. She taught clinical

animal behavior at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine

for four years before returning to U.C. Davis, where she currently

conducts research and lectures in companion animal behavior

and cognition and human-animal interactions. Dr. Grigg serves

on the board of the International Society for Anthrozoology and

has authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and book

chapters on canine and feline behavior. Her first book, The Science

Behind a Happy Dog, was published in 2017.

education at Purdue University, where he completed a three-year

vertically integrated broiler company in northern Indiana. Dr. Lossie

later decided to change his focus and returned to academia to

1996, she established her AAHA hospital, which has since evolved

into an integrative practice. She is a certified Traditional Chinese

Veterinary Medicine practitioner (CTCVMP) and a Fellow of the

American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture (FAAVA) diplomate.

Dr. Vargas also achieved a master’s degree in TCVM from the Chi

Institute. She is an author; bilingual lecturer; and TA for Chi Institutes

of USA, Peru, and Costa Rica. She was named America’s Favorite

Veterinarian in 2015 and Florida’s Veterinarian of the Year in 2018.

works as an animal identification coordinator with USDA APHIS

Dr. Hayes has been a diagnostician and pathologist at the Ohio

Department of Agriculture’s Ohio Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory

(ADDL) for more than 35 years, holding positions including the section

head for the pathology section and interim co-director. In 2002, he

served as a veterinary pathologist for the USDA at Plum Island, and for

the last 16 years, he has since continued as an instructor for the foreign

animal disease courses offered at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center.

Dr. Hayes has been an invited speaker and consultant to the Food and

Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in Rome, Italy, where he

shared expertise regarding rinderpest post-eradication online education

efforts. He is also an adjunct faculty member at The Ohio State University

College of Veterinary Medicine. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology

from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., and a DVM and master’s from

Ohio State.
