After graduating veterinary school, Dr. Lossie continued his
education at Purdue University, where he completed a three-year
residency in avian diagnostic medicine while working toward his
master’s degree. After becoming a diplomate of the American
College of Poultry Veterinarians (ACPV), he took a job with a small
vertically integrated broiler company in northern Indiana. Dr. Lossie
later decided to change his focus and returned to academia to
follow his passion for teaching. He joined the team at The Ohio State
University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he remains on staff
as a faculty instructor of practice and poultry health specialist in the
veterinary preventive medicine department.

Dr. Hayes has been a diagnostician and pathologist at the Ohio
Department of Agriculture’s Ohio Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory
(ADDL) for more than 35 years, holding positions including the section
head for the pathology section and interim co-director. In 2002, he
served as a veterinary pathologist for the USDA at Plum Island, and for
the last 16 years, he has since continued as an instructor for the foreign
animal disease courses offered at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center.
Dr. Hayes has been an invited speaker and consultant to the Food and
Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in Rome, Italy, where he
shared expertise regarding rinderpest post-eradication online education
efforts. He is also an adjunct faculty member at The Ohio State University
College of Veterinary Medicine. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology
from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., and a DVM and master’s from
Ohio State.
