#ntroduction

I didn't always, but in the last two years, I've learned to tune in very carefully to the voice of God. And I'm nottalking about just any old god. I'm talking about hearing the Holy Sirit of God that came down to man when!esus "hrist ascended and sat at the right hand of #ahweh, the great I A$. He says that His shee will hear andknow His voice. %See Aendi& A.

How did it haen that I started hearing Him and how do I know it's God( )ell, that's a different book. %Althoughsome is in Aendi& *. +his book is just here because God told me to start documenting some of myconversations with Him. +hen He told me to ut them all together so that eole could read them and decide forthemselves if they would like to hear God like this. $any eole will definitely -+ want to hear God like this Ithurts. It's hard. It will cost you everything. /ut it IS ossible. And I wouldn't trade it for anything.

If you don't think God talks to eole anymore, then just consider this an e&ercise in creative writing or a oeticallegory or my own fanciful daydreaming. I don't really care what you think. I know the difference and I know Heis real and I know He is directing my aths now that I know how to get out of His way. And I wouldn't trade it foranything.

+hese aren't articularly insightful. +hey're not the best things the 0ord ever told me. +hey're not documentationof dreams and visions and dee revelations. +hey're not words of knowledge about the secret things in someother erson's heart. +hey're just written documentation of sniets of the kind of daily, running conversation Ihave with the 0ord all the time. Sometimes daily to1do lists, sometimes encouragement, sometimes just a at onthe head. I'm not resenting them because I think they are the best of all the things the 0ord has shown me,they're not. +here are lots of things that He's told me that are very rivate, some that aren't for now, some that Idon't even understand yet. /ut these 2*ialogues3 are just so that maybe you'll hunger and thirst for a relationshilike this. He said that His shee would hear and know His voice. And you can, if you'll unclog your ieline andshut u and listen.

+he first of the *ialogues is more oetic than normal and was written just as my furniture store was beingcrushed. It was a serious low oint and robably near the beginning of when I started writing the *ialogues. #ouwill see that it is much different in style and tone than the others that followed. God is faithful 4ven when you feelcrushed and defeated, He will never let it go too far. +hroughout everything that I have endured, He has alwaysbeen faithful. He's a great *ad

/ehind these dialogues is a Siritual +uneu section that might hel you get unclogged so you can hear better. He's a really great *ad and I know He wants to talk to you like this. #t$s not %ust me& # 'now lots of fol's thathear (im li'e this.  And lots have been raised u by !esus through me to hear Him like this. If I can hel youhear Him better so that you don't have to lean on your own understanding anymore and H4 can direct all youraths, that's the best gift I could ever think of giving you

)DD##O*)+ *O,-God doesn't worry too much about caitali5ation of ronouns associated with Him. He definitely doesn't re6uire itas a sign of resect for Himself when (e is talking. I asked and it's just not real imortant to Him. I usually do it,but if I forget sometimes or I'm tying too fast, that doesn't seem to bother Him. He knows that I love Him with allmy heart. He wants a broken and contrite heart, a circumcised sirit 7 not caitali5ation and a heart of ice.

I'm trying to resent these in as raw a way as ossible. I've only edited them where something was includedabout a erson or some bit of instruction or information that the 0ord didn't want made ublic.

+he only other change I made is that I ut His words in bold so you can read it easier. I doubt it is necessary, because it should be retty obvious who is whom, but I don't want to make it harder than necessary.

I would love to have commented on all the ama5ing miracles and divine aointments and erfect timings thatresulted from obeying the instructions He gave, but that too is beyond the scoe of this book. I'm not trying torove it was Him or justify what I heard or anything. I'm just resenting the raw conversations. #ou do what youwill with them. I don't have anything to rove and He is the only one I need to lease.

In the last coule of years I have visited do5ens and do5ens of different congregations. Sometimes I willfellowshi with four or five different congregations on one Sunday. As the 0ord has led, I've had the greatrivilege to get familiar with more astors of more denominations than most anybody I know. I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly in all the different styles and traditions and doctrines.

+he most common thing that I've seen is that almost universally there is a tendency toward utting on rogramsand ignoring the individual. +he bigger the congregation, the greater the tendency. %;ead the 2ndeniable

A&ioms3 online. In reality how that manifests always includes a statement about family and concern for theindividual but then it's offset and negated by the reality of a structure seemingly engineered to disregard individualneeds. However unconscious this may be, the reality is clearly that millions of "hristians are -+ walking in thefullness of "hrist or worse, walking around with massive oressions that continue untreated.

+here are +-S of eole leaving the institutional churches. $illions of them er year. )hy( /ecause they don'tfeel like their individual needs are getting addressed. +hey may sit through a good sermon that has some lifealication, but they don't see or feel the radical transformation that should come as a art of the normal "hristianlife. -r worse, they have a crisis or a need and nobody in the church resonds aroriately.

)e are -+ honoring God. )e are singing and dancing and retending everything is fine while eole are

bleeding to death in the ews %not to mention in the streets. 0isten to me, God does -+ want you to raise andworshi Him while you're ignoring the erson sitting ne&t to you who is having a crisis It *-4S -+ bring Himhonor for you to raise your hands and tell Him how great He is while you :AI0 to act like Him and heal thosenearest to you. Heal them 7 or at least +;4A+ them 7 and +H4 you can go raising and worshiing and tellingHim how great He is. He just *-4S -+ want to hear you singing while you're ignoring eole that are cryinginside #our rayers are going to bounce off of the brass over your head until you act like !esus. !ust knock it off

7 or else. He's not going to ignore their cries much longer.

+he church should be like the + show $JAJSJH. If they're having a arty and someone shouts "hoersthen the music stos and everybody rushes into action to do triage. +hat means raidly identifying andcategori5ing the wounded based on needs 1 the bleeding, sucking chest wounds go first, then the broken legs, then the scratches. A:+4; everybody is treated and in ;ecovery 7 +H4 you can go back to your arty. /utwhat kind of hosital would you be if you let them bleed to death in the comound because you refuse to stosinging and dancing because you had a schedule to kee( #ou lanned for this arty to take an hour and a half

and, by golly, you're going to stay on time no matter what.

4ven when !esus was right in the middle of a great sermon and had them all in the alm of His hand, if aaraly5ed guy droed down out of the roof, !esus S+-994* +A08IG and healed him. +H4 He could go onwith his sermon 1 A* everybody was ;4A00# imressed because of the miracle that had just haened in frontof them I'm not sure which would be the bigger miracle in some churches, that a aralytic rose and walked awayor that the astor stoed in the middle of a sermon

+he eole of God need to be trained u in how to raidly identify the hysical, emotional and siritual warfareoressing and killing their brethren and they need to be emowered to go and treat them on the sot. +he musicneeds to sto until 44;#/-*# in your cam is bandaged u. "hurch will not be he 5hurch until it stosbeing a show and starts being a hosital, first and foremost. +he reason it's not that now is because we abdicatedto aid leadershi to do all the work for us and they can't ossibly kee u. In fairness, many of them got to likingit and now don't trust the /ody to hel them 1 so it's a vicious cycle. /ut it's got to sto. +he /ody has to learn to

care for the /ody, whether or not there is a aid staffer. )e need the Gifts of *iscernment of Sirits and8nowledge oerating in force and we need to get back to fulfilling the Great "ommission 1 first by cleaning u ourown messes, then by G-IG. )e can't wait for them to "-$4 7 cause when we do, they're not staying, and it'sbecause they're not getting healed %because we're not acting like !esus.

If any of this stuff has convicted you and you reali5e you layed a art in sustaining a system that hasn't beenworking or you ever ignored someone that was bleeding because you had your own agenda, now would be agood time to find a 6uiet lace, hit your knees and say you're sorry. "rying hels God know you're serious. #oumight also want to admit it ublicly to the eole affected. How are they ever going to learn how to reent reallygood if somebody doesn't show them( *on't wait for somebody else to do it. It has to start with you.

-o what is a -piritual une:Bp8

:irst it's aimed at eole that already have !esus, but the rocess is the same regardless. A erson who is lostcould turn their life over and ush through lots of the stes right away and be that much more effective sooner. It's

just a matter of hunger level and God's sense of your rearedness. +he goal is immediate radicaltransformation, not gradual incremental change culminating in erfection after death. )e believe that it's ossiblethat God can heal and deliver and restore and sanctify instantly and we're going to aim for that. If He chooses totake longer, that's fine, but we're going to AS8 for ma&imum change in minimum time 1 even if it hurts. )hich it

will.

+yically, we would take a hard look at each of the three factorsC /ody, Soul and Sirit. Asking the Holy Sirit tohel us discern any areas where there is resistance to the will of "hrist, we would scan through each layerlooking for whatever the 0ord would choose to reveal. It might be a hysical illness that has a siritual cause, itmight be a soulish anger or bitterness or unforgiveness that is blocking Him and bringing down hysical curses,or it might be a siritual roblem of diminished caacity for Him because of limitations or filters that have beenlaced on God. It might be a demonic oression that has really old roots in abuse or addiction or someunresolved, ast sin that oened a doorway and allowed legal ground for the enemy. All of these are resolvablewithin the scoe of the ower granted to us through "hrist. Some can be settled nearly instantly and done awaywith once and for all. $any eole have e&erienced through this rocess an immediately lightness at theremoval of some old yokes of oression. Some e&erience immediate hysical changes as healing to theirillnesses or removal of addictions comes at the same time. )e want to allow God room to act in A# way Hesees fit. )e don't want to ut Him in a bo& anymore )e want to believe that He is big enough to con6uer

anything and that He wants us free. He is big enough, right( And He does want us fully free, right( All the wayfree( -f everything(

)hen you do a tune1u on a vehicle, you want to find anything that is keeing it from running at eak efficiency. Amisalignment, a missing art, low fluids, bad filters, even burnt out bulbs 1 anything that needs to be changed oradjusted so that it can be renewed back to the way it was designed. It's all in ;omans >K. In thanks for His mercywe offer our bodies as living sacrifices 1 holy, leasing and accetable 1 that is our siritual act of worshi.

So first, we have to be willing to offer our /ody 1 the vehicle, and all that it holds 1 as a sacrifice. )e need to bewilling and we need to commit to hold -+HIG back. +hat verse does -+ say we offer half of our body as aliving sacrifice 7 or even L?@. +he whole thing needs to go on the altar. A00 means A00.

/efore we can do anything else, we need it to be a holy, leasing and accetable sacrifice. And since oursinfulness screams against our holiness, and our own nature confirms it, it's clear that only by the atoning /loodof !esus is there any chance that we can be a leasing and accetable sacrifice. So before any tune1u is goingto do any good, we need to scrub the whole thing down with the /lood of !esus. #ou have to have acknowledgedyour needfulness for the /lood and asked Him to wash you clean of every sin.

Said less religiously, you have to tell !esus you're sorry for all the bad stuff you let in and you have to really meanit 1 and you have to believe that His sacrifice on the cross was sufficient to wie you clean. +his IS -+ anacknowledgment that !esus e&isted or that He was the Son of God 1 even the demons believe that. +his is not astatement you reeat after someone else so that you can join a church. +his is a full1on commitment to humbleyourself before Him and to give yourself over to Him so that He can be in charge from now on. +hat you wouldlike to bow down and let Him be who He is 1 $aster, 8ing, "ommander, ;uler, 0ord 1 in your life from now on.:ear of the 0ord is the beginning of wisdom. )ay too many churches are making it way too easy 1 and the resultis sick, owerless, shackled, unwise eole in the ews.

-8, -) you're an accetable sacrifice. So what's ne&t( Get u on the altar and shut u. #ou don't need tofigure out your ersonal urose. #ou don't need M? days to figure out what #- can do for God. #ou're thesacrifice Get cleaned off, climb u on the altar and lay there naked. /y doing this, by really doing this, reallylaying there naked 7 fully e&osed and willing to accet anything that comes 7 you are most definitely -+conforming to the world.

)hen He's good and ready, He'll move on to the ne&t ste. )hich is that He will take a big sword and begin tohack chunks of your head off and ut His head on. It's ainful at times and folks around you may not understandwhat's haening during that strange in1between time while you're trying to figure it all out and get the ieces ofyour head and His head to get on the same fre6uency. /ut eventually, unless you anic and jum off the altar, Hewill hack off all the bits that stand in His way and then you'll have the mind of "hrist. He will have transformed you

# li'e pictures& so let$s start with this

+his is a very simle grahic, not at all meant to be thorough or all1inclusive. 0et the Holy Sirit show you all theareas in your life that need addressing. I'm sure He wants to :or now, we're just going to hit a few so you cansee how this works. If you're not hearing very well from God on what might be unsubmitted, just ask someoneclose to you 7 I'm sure they'll tell you the arts that don't look like !esus. Souses are good for that

If we had lots of eole in the churches with the gift of discernment of sirits, you could go to one of them and askthem what's messing with you and they could just tell you and hel get it off. If you know somebody like that, byall means, get them in on this. /ut don't take A#/-*#'S word for anything. "heck everything with God. 4ven if

you can't normally hear God very well, I'm just S;4 He wants to talk to you about +HIS stuff So you should bee&ecting that, as it relates to areas of your life that are unsubmitted, you're going to hear Him really well.

I susect He's been waiting so long for you to ask Him what the roblem is that as soon as you ask you're goingto get 0-+S of feedback.  Areas of direct disobedience or unresolved ain result in a draining off of that with which we are filled. Sometimeswe have a really hard time keeing our cu full because we have a big crack in our cu caused by anunforgiveness or a bitterness or a fundamental character flaw, and so we drain out almost as soon as we getfilled. In a sense, you could see it like thisE

+he yellow stuff is our soulish nature and it's not that much better than the red stuff. In fact, the /lood of !esuswashes away all of our sins in an instant when we ask for forgiveness, but if we don't fill the ga with !esus %andkee it full, the badness will just jum back into the vacuum. +here's a lot more to be said, but you'll need to ray through this yourself and ask God to show you very clearlyall the areas in which you are artially or comletely unsubmitted. Here's a coule of -ld +estament reference so you know God doesn't changeE

!eremiah >FE>E L/0, the ho!e of 'srael, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, [and] they that de!artfrom me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the L/0, the fountain of living waters.

This is kind of scary.o kidding ItDs the biggest thing ever in your life +hat the God of the niverse wants to be intimately involved ineverything you do and say and eat and wear and think. +hatDs massively scary And yet, we can never haveeace and joy and victory until we have relationshi with !esus and are led by His Holy Sirit. #ou see, under ourown ower, we just screw everything u. +here has never been any strategy of $an that has led to anything goodin the long run. -h, it might work for a little while, but you get enough sinful eole involved in it, add money, mi&in a little satan 7 and itDs toast. -r worse, you get "ommunism or :ascism or something, and millions of eoledie. +here are just two otions 7 if itDs of $an it will fail and if itDs of God nothing can stand against it. %Acts OEN1L Since the institutional 2church3 in America is failing, somebody other than God must be in charge.  Anyway, yes, itDs scary. /ut what a ayoff +o walk in holiness because God Himself is fighting off thetemtations and snares of the enemy, to hear Him all the time and get direction on anything and everything, to

#ou see > !ohn M goes on in verses K and to lay out how you can know what it is that is talking to you and fromwhere it comes, 2+his is how you can recogni5e the Sirit of GodE 4very sirit that acknowledges that !esus"hrist has come in the flesh is from God, but every sirit that does not acknowledge !esus is not from God. +hisis the sirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.3

O?. #$m getting that it$s possi6le& 6ut #$m going to ha3e to hear (im for myself. #$m willing to try. 9hat dowe do8Great #eah, don't take my word for it, seek Him yourself. )ell the first thing is to ask the 0ord to show youanything that stands in the way between you and Him. It's like thisC

+he oint of the church coming together should be so that we can crucify ieces of ourselves so that "hrist in uscan live. Said another way, it's to hel each other identify the things that stand between us and !esus 7 and luckthem out. )e should all be working together to hel unclog our ielines. /ut that's not what's haening at all.

+he most common thing we ut in the way is our belief that God won't talk to us. +hat's got to go If you don't

think He's a 0iving God and active and able to seak and desiring relationshi with you, then you're going to haveto lay that down.

-ne of the other ossibilities is that you're worshiing the );-G !esus. 9aul said that would haen, thatsomeone would come reaching another !esus and eole would accet it. It's very simleC if you make u yourown !esus, don't e&ect an answer when you ray 9roserity1!esus, 4mergency1-nly1!esus, ot1Xuite1As1Good1As1+he1irgin1$ary1!esus, and a 5illion others are all $A*4 9. If you make your own god from scratch,e&ect about as much resonse as if you were raying to a stick. +hose are -+ /ible !esus 1 who doesn't liketo be toyed with and ut in a bo&.

-ther things in the way are a reliance on someone else for your holiness or connection to God %9astor, wife, mother, etc.. +hat's got to sto. +his is a -41on1-4 relationshi with !esus. obody is going to do it for you.-ther ieline blockages include addiction, ride, selfishness, bitterness, anger, la5iness, fear and so manyothers that kee us from e&eriencing the fullness that is I "hrist.

Ask the 0ord to show you what is in the way and He is faithful to A0)A#S do that if you'll listen. Ask some otherfolks to ray with you if ossible and just ray in agreement that the 0ord will make Himself very clear to youabout what to do ne&t.

!ust ray and believe. He'll come and hel unclog you. /elieve that He wants to talk to you and start conversingwith Him. :ind someone to be accountable with that knows God really well and make sure you don't act onanything that sounds fishy without verifying it with the )ord of God. ow, not with doctrine of $an, mind you 7with the )ord of God.

)nd One Other hing-ne of the best ways that I have found and one of the things you see in the 2*ialogues3 is that I learned thatsatan can't read your thoughts, so if you ask lots of follow u 6uestions and then wait and get out of the way 7 ifyou don't get answers or get s6uirrelly answers, it wasn't God. It's not enough to obey generally, if you love Him,you'll obey Him secifically and e&actly. I say that obedience isn't just juming when He says jum. #ou jumwhen He tells you, how He tells you, how high He tells you and you stay in the air until He says to come down+hat's radical obedience. *on't just obey generally 7 seek to obey e&actly. And for that you need more secifics.

It's like this, just assume that the urge to do something or the thought in your head is from God and then ask lots

of 6uestions. It says that the stes of a righteous man are ordered before him. It says that He directs our aths.!ust assume that He is a lot more involved then you might have susected and treat the voice in your head as ifit's Him %not you or the enemy. I'm not saying not to test the sirits 9lease don't hear that. I'm saying that this is-4 way to test them that is a little uside down, but I know it works for me %and lots of others.

:or e&amle, this e&change haens ISI*4 your head %-+ out loud where the enemy will hearE

Sontaneous thought os inE # need to call my !om.#our resonseE )ssume it$s the (oly -pirit prompting you and get details. ;e polite.

-h +hanks, 0ord. I will. *o you want me to call her right now(  ... ause ... %wait and listen*o.

-8 +hanks for that, 0ord )hen do you want me to call my $om(  ... ause ... %wait and listen200pm today-8. +hanks for that 0ord. *o you want me to call her on her cell hone or at home(  ... ause ... %wait and listen5all her at your 6rother$s house.HH( )hat is she doing there( +hat's hours away. I'm sure she's home.  ... ause ... %wait and listen*ope. 5all her at 200pm at your 6rother$s house.)ow. -8, 0ord. I'll do it. +hanks, 0ord. I love #ou.# lo3e you& too.

+hen you ste out on faith, call your brother at KE??m, find out that $om is there and you give God all the glory 7

and your faith grows and grows -; she's not there and you use it as a way to troubleshoot your hearing methodand -+ as a way to disrove that God seaks to eole. #ou don't get discouraged, you accet it as a traininglesson and move on and ask Him to e&lain to you what went wrong. $aybe you colored or added to it, maybeyou were out of order in some way, maybe you've got a ;ed *ragon, maybe you didn't ask what day to call, etc.

He )I00 do surrising stuff like this so that you know it's Him. He absolutely will. )hen folks imlement this onelittle thing, it often S+S them God is 4;# creative and He will find a way to do little %or big things that roveto you that He is there and He is directing your aths. !ust wait and listen and don't add to it yourself.

#ou see, the enemy can imlant a thought, and they might even be able to anticiate a resonse or two from you 7 like chess moves. /ut they can't really read your thoughts and follow along with a se6uence of follow u6uestions. 9articularly if you throw off the timing by raising and and worshiing in between or setting the wholething to one side until the enemy least e&ects it.

If you acknowledge the voice as e&ternal and ask follow1u 6uestions and don't get any answers, or get reallyuseless answers, than it wasn't God. If the voice suggests you do something that doesn't bring glory to God, thenit was either you or the enemy. /oth of you want a do5en donuts at midnight. /ut if !esus isn't glorified by youeating a do5en donuts at midnight, then rebuke it and refuse to obey it 7 whether it was #- or the enemy

-ften when I'm fasting I will hear a voice that says I'm finished. sually it will be different that when the 0ord toldme earlier that I was to be finished fasting %like Fm instead of midnight. +he enemy wants me to disobey Godand to not be fasting in time for whatever trial is coming. If I ask a 6uestion right away when I first hear thatthought %20ord, is that really you(3, I will get an answer that sounds like God answering my thoughts %2#e. It'sme. #ou're done fasting. It's -8.3. /ut ... if I set it off to the side, do something else for awhile and then a fewminutes later, out of the blue, ask the 0ord %in my head if I'm done fasting, I'll hear a more reliable answer 7

usually that it wasn't Him. *on't let the enemy dictate the timing or rush you into action. +he 0ord will always allowyou enough to time to confirm it's Him or to be sure it's His voice. ;emember that the enemy can imlant athought A* can imlant a follow1u or two. /ut if you throw off the timing, ask a really odd follow1u, raise andworshi a little before asking anything at all, it will throw the enemy off and it's likely that the imlanted follow1uwill talk over you or not answer your 6uestion at all. +hen it gets easier to understand the difference between thevoices that are coming at you. +he 0ord is highly motivated to teach you how this works. !ust listen to Him.

9eole think that if you're hearing voices you're cra5y. )hat they don't understand is that the enemy will ut an 2I3in front and convince you that it's you. So, I guarantee you that we're A00 hearing voices, we just think it's us. :or

e&amle, 2I'm scared that I might have cancer.3 )as that you or the enemy( It sure wasn't God, He didn't give usa sirit of fear And if it's a sirit of fear, it's not S either 7 so it's e&ternal and it's designed to kill, steal anddestroy your life or your 6uality of life %or your witness as "hristians. +hat erson just heard a voice in their headthat wasn't them, but because the enemy works covertly and uts an 2I'm3 in front, we accet it as our own.

+here's a lot of stuff that I've learned and there's not nearly room for all of it, but I will add this one other thing. /e4;# careful about dates and times. If the 0ord says, 2soon3 or 2tomorrow3 that could mean just about anything. If He says 2)ednesday the KFth of !une, K??F3 now that's something. /ut don't bet the farm on 2tomorrow3meaning -; tomorrow. A day is as a thousand years to those who are outside of time, so be very cautiousabout those kinds of redictions. Ask for secifics and if you can't get any out of Him, then He robably doesn'twant you to have that information. He will always give you enough information to obey His directive, but notnecessarily as much as you'd like. 8ee in mind, too, that He doesn't necessarily honor the Gregorian calendar%2this year3 and that the Hebrew method of calculating days means they end at sundown %2today3. He kees His

otions oen. He can be true and you still be wrong. It's the interretation or the 6uestion or the hearer that isflawed, never His voice.

;ecently a brother and I were driving across country and the van was having trouble. +he 0ord had instructed usto go to a articular town and it was still a coule of hours away. *o we fi& the van( oe, we drive it until thetransmission is totally fried. +hen we send two nights in the desert. "an we call for hel( o. +he 0ord says,2)ill you walk(3 #es, 0ord. )e trust Him for everything and ask no hel from any man 7 not even sticking ourthumbs out. And when we've walked as far as we can %four or five miles dragging suitcases down the highway,He sends someone to ick us u and drive us toward the destination, but too far 4ast. +hen we walk some moreuntil we're ooed, then someone else icks us u and dros us directly on the doorste of the lace we weregoing. God had said that morning that we would be at our destination before the end of that day and we were, before sundown even. He is always faithful and true. #ou may not get there the way you e&ected, but He willalways get you there. *on't sto just because it doesn't look the way you thought it would %or should.

Along the way, we grew in our faith, we met some great folks, we got to bless some eole and ray for them andwe did get where He wanted us at just the right moment. And we got some e&ercise

I ray that this journey you're on will be just as much of an adventure for you.

+here are two ways that I know of to get your cu comletely filled u with God. +here is the daily walking inobedience and seeking and rayerful living that just ushes out the Sin a little at a time and creates habits ofeffectiveness and faithfulness. -ne day you look u and you've achieved sanctification %holiness, no red stuff.-r there is the e&erience that the first "hristians had at 9entecost 1 the /atism of the Holy Sirit.

It's kind of like if you have a swimming ool in your backyard you want to fill, you can stick a garden hose in it andlet the water run until it's full 1 or you can call the forestry service and have one of those giant helicoters thatdum water on forest fires just flood the whole block and fill your ool in one burst. :ar be it from me to tellsomeone that however much God they got in them they did it the wrong way I have dear, dear friends that did itboth ways and both are as full of God as anyone I know. I have had 9entecostals describe the first method asold school and unnecessary since the A5usa ;evival and the awakening in >L??. 4ven delegitimi5e it as amethod to build that relationshi with God. %$ostly they say we don't have time for that. /ut that makes nosense to me at all. It may not be the fastest, but it sure seems more lasting and less likely to be taken for granted.

+o build a habit of daily struggle and faithfulness rather than to rely on one burst seems erfectly reasonable.

If you're not into church linguistics, one of the terms you'll hear used a lot is Sirit1filled. )hat most folks wantyou to think it means is that their cu is totally full of God. )hat they ;4A00# most likely mean is that at someoint in their life they had a dramatic e&erience in which the Holy Sirit came on them and something haened.$ost robably what they really, ;4A00# mean is just that they seak in tongues. I've had folks ask me if I wasSirit1filled and I %and they know darn well that what they really want to know is if I seak in tongues 1 -+ if I'mwalking in holiness and am comletely filled with nothing /+ the Holy Sirit. It seems that for many eole,we've ut the emhasis on the Gifts, not the relationshi.

#ou see, what I think has haened with a 0-+ of eole is that they were in churches that ut a lot of emhasison the siritual gifts that can come when your cu is filled %esecially tongues and so they seek that e&erienceof being filled with the Holy Sirit just :-; that. +hat is, they're not laying everything down and seekingsanctification and willing to do whatever it takes to live victoriously and con6uer sin consistently and fearing anawesome God 1 they just want to seak in tongues like everybody else at their church. So they seek God andthey ask to be filled and they either don't %because God sees right through wrong motives or else they do get aburst, but not enough to really ush out all the sin. +heir cu's level rises enough for that gift but they can'tmaintain it because they're not committed to keeing the sin out consistently. +hey didn't get training on cumanagement, they just had an urgency for a manifestation of some sort. Since what God gives are GI:+S, Hewill let a erson kee them even later the level in their cu dros to dangerously low. +hat's how we end u withsome revivalists and others who can heal eole and yet are comlete selfish stinkers.

+here are lenty of eole that I've met that describe themselves as Sirit1filled 1 and I'd rather send time in abathtub with a wolverine than hang out with them. )hatever they once had is 0-G gone -ur lives are :0I*and dynamic, in constant motion and flu&. 0ike the dilation of the iris of your eye, we are tuned to the worldaround us and it affects us in all kinds of good and bad ways. +hat's why "u $anagement is so imortant.

)e should never worshi the creation instead of the "reator. )e should never seek after e&eriences or feelingsor manifestations. +hat's just -+ going to get your cu filled u all the way because it's comes from a selfish orrideful motive that is inherently sinful. #ou just can't ray for the Sin to be oured out and be sanctified so thatyou'll be cool or because you covet what someone else has or because you want to show them u. See theroblem( Sin is motivating the removal of sin. A house divided can't stand. *oesn't work. God sees right throughthat. He may give you manifestations, but it's just going to wreck you if you kee walking down that ath.

)e should seek -0# that !esus fill us comletely and do His work through us, that we should decrease so thatHe can increase. )e should seek -/4*I4"4 1 ure and comlete. +he other stuff is just side1effects of that.Signs and wonders will :-00-) 7 they will trail behind, not lead the way.

DougKs Personal ,Aperience with the (oly -pirit%)ritten !an. KO, K??O 7 edited !an, >N, K??F

I had been raying and aching for several months to see the Holy Sirit come in ower and do something. I hadread Acts over and over and we were having a /ible Study time on Sunday nights at my furniture sho with the

folks I resected the most. )hat I was really hoing for was that book of Acts, 9entecost, tongues of fire stuff 7but had no idea what I was doing. +)I"4 in my life %before ovember of K??M had I ever even been in a roomwith someone seaking in tongues 1 and one of those was at a concert with like KO?? other eole. +hey didnDtteach me anything about this in the /atist church e&cet to be sketical and susect itDs made u 1 or worse, that itDs from the enemy. %4ven now, IDm still hyer1sensitive to it and itDs aroriate use. )hich is a good thing.

;ound about ovember of K??M, Andrew %Strom and I met and had lunch and he liked a lot of what I had beensaying about the roblems in the church. He asked me if I had been bati5ed in the Holy Sirit and I said, 2Huh(3)e talked about it for awhile and he encouraged me to read u and ray on it. A coule days later I went down tohis Sunday evening meeting he was having and he asked if I would like to seak 1 which, of course, I did. It had agood imact, although it was kind of like reaching to the choir since his crowd is already sort of outside of thestandard 2church3 streams.

+he following +uesday %>>TKT?M, Andrew was having a rayer meeting at the home of one of the folks in hisgrou and suggested I come and they would ray for me to receive 2the /lessing3 1 that is, to be filled with theHoly Sirit. +hey were all his family and a few other folks he trusted a lot. %IDve learned not to let just A#/-*#lay hands on me without being armored u really good I was fully rimed by the time it rolled around. )e had ameal and talked for awhile and then we rayed a little and then they were going to ray on me. +hey wanted meto sit in a chair in the middle of the room and I said, 2Heck, no IDm kneeling. o way IDm going to sit there allcomfy before God.3 So, about four or five of them are raying on me in tongues retty loud. It was hard toconcentrate, but I just decided that they were nice folks, so I didnDt care how they wanted to ray as long as theywere sincere and they heled me get what I came for.

Since I was a kid, I never rayed for anything but wisdom. ItDs just a math roblem to me. Solomon was thesmartest guy ever, thatDs what Solomon rayed for, that must make it the wisest thing to ask for. ItDs always at theto of the list of Gifts in I "orinthians and elsewhere. )hy ray for tongues( ItDs at the bottom of the list( !ust mybusiness instinct I guess. Go for the good stuff.

Anyway, so they rayed on me for about ?1M? minutes %I think as I begged for the Holy Sirit and romised todo right if He would bless me. I romised God that if He would emower me, I was willing to give u anything andendure anything. I just wanted to be the most dangerous erson on the lanet to the cause of evil. I wanted tosniff it out and ri out itDs heart with my teeth. I wanted to be GodDs it bull. I wanted wisdom, I wanted a highvantage oint, to see through the eyes of !esus. +o know what eole needed to hear to convict them, to burnaway all the imurities and see just the ure kernel of the essence of what we should be doing to lease Him.

I begged Him to shine a light on anything in my heart that was in the way and I would scrub it out. +ogether, Heand I just went through one thing after another. I have lenty of sins 1 maybe not big ones as the world judgesthem 7 but there was lenty of darkness in my heart for which to reent. I had to dro some angers at old bossesor girl friends or others. At one oint, He said, 2#ouDre retty good with the orhans, but youDre lacking with thewidows since you havenDt gone to see your grandmother in the hosital.3 So I romised on the sot that I would

go see her before the week was u and make it all right. +hat seemed to satisfy him. I ket getting a warm fu55yfeeling like this was my time and He was going to answer my rayers, but then it stalled out. About then, I think

Andrew and them were getting tired %they have to lean over, because I refused the chair and he asks me if thereis anything in the way or if there is a history of $asonry in my family. I said, 2o,3 and we just all agreed to raythat the 0ord would shine a light on what was the roblem. early as soon as we started raying again, the HolySirit reminded me that there wasnDt any $asonry, but I had been in a fraternity in college that re6uired that youtake an oath of secrecy on God. 4ven though when I was an initiate I hadnDt said the oath at the time, later on Iwas the ritualist and administered it to others. I instantly reented of it and renounced it and steed away fromthat. +hat was the last thing in the way.

!ust then, Andrew suggested that maybe I should stand u. )hen I did, the vision started. I rayed for wisdomand to see through the eyes of !esus. +o me thatDs just a higher vantage oint 1 where you can see more of the/ig 9icture. /oth the love and the anger, the judgement and the mercy. I had rayed to take on any task, nomatter the cost. So what He showed me was as much wisdom and resonsibility as I could handle withoutassing out. I distinctly remember a sense from Him that I didnDt really know how big a thing I had asked for, butHe was going to show me as much as I could handle anyway. He was glad that I asked, but almost grinningbecause He knew what it would do to me :atherly love like when your nine year old son wants to build his own:ormula -ne race car or something.

So for about ten minutes or so %maybe more, God ran this through my head. It was as if I was in outer sacelooking down on the globe. -n the right side is a reel of faces going by. All children, all different colors. +he vastmajority are crying or hurting or sick or dying. It was like fast forwarding a **, they whi by real fast and then itstos long enough to see a few, then they whi along again. -n the left side of the globe is the outline of Americaand a nasty, inky blackness covering it with tendrils sreading out all over the world. I knew that this was the sinof the church 1 selfishness, aostasy, greed, ride, denominationalism, waste, fraud, roserity gosel, etc. thatwas sreading out from America and reaching all over the world. +he reel of ictures of kids was running fullseed. +he 0ord said, 2#ou wanted to see through my eyes, IDm going to show you A00 of it.3 He knows that Ihave a heart for kids %as He does and thatDs the way He sees us anyway, so thatDs how He showed it to me 1 asinnocents hurt, killed, maimed, abused, imoverished, starving because of the nasty blackness coming out of

America. It was clear to me that these werenDt little kids, these were GodDs children of all ages. And He made itclear I was seeing A00 of them. I mean A00 of them. I honestly believe that all si& billion lus sun by. $aybemore, maybe it was all of them 44;. I canDt even comrehend it. /ut He made it clear that they were dying

because of S and what )4 have done maliciously, or selfishly neglected to do to ush back the darkness. I hada horrible ain in my chest and ached and groaned instantly.

AndrewDs middle girl, 8irsten %who was about >>, was raying hard on my right and without really knowing IDddone it, I grabbed ahold of her and hugged her to me and just stroked her head and cried big huge sobs. -ut loudI ket begging God to stay His judgement and aologi5ing for what weDd done to the children. I just felt so muchain in my chest and I was groaning and crying and just ket watching and saying out loud, 2-h, the children)hat weDve done to the children 9lease hel us save them, 0ord. IDm S- sorry.3 %-r some derivative orcombination thereof. And I ;4A00#, ;4A00# needed 8irsten at that moment as a real live kid I could et andhug and cry over. %She and I are bonded in a way I canDt really e&lain. She just let me et her head and dri onher and ket right on raying for me. )hat a good sort +his went on for a long time %to me and then finallyfaded with Him saying, 2#-D;4 resonsible for them. #ou said you would, so now itDs on #-.3 I asked the0ord, 2)hat do you mean(3 He said, 2#ou wanted to be the most dangerous erson on the lanet, you wanted to

see through the eyes of !esus, I showed you everybody, now youDre resonsible.3 I said, 20ord, youDre telling lotsof other eole theyDre resonsible, too, right( ItDs not just me(3 He said, 2It doesnDt matter, you said you werewilling, so now G-3 I got it then %and still do that somehow I ersonally have a resonsibility to reach them allwith the Gosel and turn this thing around. %Still trying to figure out how thatDs fair 11 or ossible

After it was over, I was still in a lot of ain in my chest. )e sat back in the circle and I was groaning and wincingin ain. +hey asked me what I had seen and I tried to tell them, but it was hard to breathe and every time IDd closemy eyes IDd get a glimse of it again and it would hurt. 0ike an ice ick in my chest. +he folks there wanted toreassure me that it was -8 that I hadnDt soken in tongues right away 7 which I found myself HIGH0# irritatedabout since thatDs not why I was there. I said, 2Hey. I got what I came for and then some I will never be the same.I asked for wisdom and to see the big icture and thatDs what I got.3 +here was a kind of 6uiet ressure that thetongues art was ;4A00# imortant, but they could see clearly that something big had haened and I was stillsitting there wincing and groaning and twitching in ain every so often. $ostly I was too distracted rocessing it tohave been bothered, but it was an imortant lesson about the subconscious ressure that can be ut on thee&erience without even reali5ing it. +hey all seemed to 44* tongues to haen at that moment, but then everysingle one of them went around and told about how when they started seaking in tongues it was some time aftertheir /atism with the Holy Sirit, some of them a 0-+ later. I didnDt comment much at the time, but I thought itinteresting that they all felt it SH-0* haen a certain way, but none of +H4$ had it haen to them that way. IdidnDt articularly want tongues, so it didnDt much matter.

At last Andrew made the most sense when he e&lained it mathematically %without meaning to. He e&lainedthat tongues is a way to let the Sirit hel relieve you of a burden so heavy that words wonDt work anymore andthat I would robably need it sooner or later if the ressure was high. +HA+ made sense, because I knew what Iwas carrying So at that oint, I started to see that it was coming and I was going to need it.

Anyway, we said goodbye and I got in my van to drive home, still wincing from the ain and moaning andgroaning with the weight of what IDd seen. :or several days, every time I closed my eyes I would see it again andwince and ache and moan. :or a coule of days after, I had this ama5ing love for everybody. I would go about myday just wanting to hug on eole and inch their cheeks because I just 84) how much !esus loved them Iknew they were one of the children that had whied by in my vision. +hings started to change instantly. I couldnDt lay video games anymore. I couldnDt watch +. I couldnDt curse. I

In the last two months He has had me fasting several times for KM hours or less, oncefor almost three days and once for almost four days. !ust water. o cravings, no ain, no headaches or di55inessor weakness. sually ends with some big event for which I need to be fully concentrated or clean. +hen I can getfood in my mouth again. In that time I got to articiate in two good friends getting full of the Sirit 1 one dear friend atanother of AndrewDs meetings %who started singing in tongues right on the sot and one by myself at thefurniture store with her. Also gave some really hard secific rohetic words individually to some eole thatchanged them.
