Dear readers

Joyous greeti ngs from the Lutheran Diakonia Department!

This year is a special one for our church as we are celebrati ng the 35th anniversary of our work. These celebrati ons will take place during the last week of March 2011. In the LDD we also have a good reason to join these acti viti es as the ministries that currently run under the LDD were among the fi rst to be started 35 years ago. The fi rst two congregati ons of the present ELCT were established in 1976, and already the following year the Immanuel Day Care center (earlier known as Kluai Nam Thai Church’s Day Nursery) was opened. Thus, since the beginning, church and diakonia work have been carried out side by side.

During these 35 years our diakonia work has seen many changes. Some ministries have been terminated and some new work has been started instead. The ministries’ work has been reorganized and retargeted to mirror changes in the society. However, throughout the years the work has followed the guidelines laid out by the Lutheran World Federati on (LWF) for diakonia work: the work should be based on Christi an faith, it should include concrete acti on (not only words) and fi nally it should be contextual. Practi cal needs met by the congregati ons and challenges risen from various social situati ons have driven and given the work directi on. Vulnerable groups have been targeted since the beginning, these including unprivileged children and pregnant, unmarried women. Later on, the work has been expanded to cover helping HIV-positi ve persons as well as the poor and oft en abandoned

elderly. All this ti me the work has been carried out by committ ed co-workers, who had found their calling was to serve Christ by in turn serving the needy and those considered least important in the eyes of the surrounding society. Hence, I would also like to take this opportunity to extend our heartf elt thanks to all those who have conti nuously prayed and supported our work during these years. In this issue, you’ll fi nd some photos about the history of the work and the latest news concerning some of these ministries.

Also, now it is once again ti me for the purple collecti on boxes! The work goes on and all of you are invited to join the diakonia work of the ELCT through our Diakonia collecti on during Lent ti me. Collecti on boxes have already been sent to local congregati ons and you can get your own from the church on the Diakonia Sunday, which falls on the 13th of March this year. We would like to ask those who

are interested in helping to take a box home and donate to those less fortunate during the 40 day Lent period. You can then return your box to your congregati on’s Easter worship service. Your off ering will be used to help those in need in either your local congregati on, or through the ministries of the LDD, however your parti cular congregati on decides to take acti on. I would like to encourage all of you to parti cipate, as even a small gift of love can make a signifi cant diff erence. In God’s economics results are not only accountable for in numbers, but like Jesus’ word about the Widow’s off ering, they show that a ti ny sum can be remarkable. ทักทายด้วยความยินดีจากแผนกคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ลูเธอร์แรน นับว่าเป็นปีพิเศษสําหรับสภาฯ ของเรา เพราะจะมีการฉลองครบรอบ 35ปีของการดําเนินงานโดยงานจะจัดขึ้นระหว่างสัปดาห์สุดท้าย ของเดือนมีนาคมนี้ ในแผนกคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ฯมีเหตุผลที่ดีที่ จะร่วมงานฉลองนี้เพราะบางพันธกิจที่ปัจจุบันดําเนินงานภายใต้แผนกคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์อยู่ในกลุ่มงานแรก ที่ได้เริ่มต้นเมื่อ 35 ปีที่แลว้ คริสตจักร 2 แห่งแรกของสภาฯ ได้เริ่มก่อตั้งในปีคริสตศักราช 1976 และในปีถัดไปได้เปิดสถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กอิมมานูเอล (เดิมทีชื่อว่า สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กกล้วยน้ําไท) ตั้งแต่การก่อตั้งทั้งคริสตจักรและพันธกิจสงเคราะห์ ต่างก็ดําเนินงานเคียงบ่าเคียงไหล่กันเสมอมา ตลอดระยะเวลา 35 ปี ในงานคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ได้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงหลายสิ่งหลายอย่างด้วยกัน บางพันธกิจต้องยุติและมีพันธกิจ ใหม่ๆ เข้าทดแทน บางพันธกิจต้องปรับเปลี่ยนนโยบาย เพื่อตอบ สนองความต้องการของสังคม อย่างไรก็ตามตลอดเวลายังทํางานตามกรอบแนวคิดของสหพันธ์ลูเธอร์แรนโลก (Lutheran World Federation (LWF)ต่องานคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ที่กล่าวไว้ว่า “พันธกิจคริสเตียนสง เคราะห์มีรากฐานอยู่ในความเชื่อคริสเตียน, แสดงออกเป็นการกระทํา (ไม่เป็นเพียงแต่ถ้อยคํา) และต้องเหมาะสมตามบริบท” พันธกิจแห่งการปรนนิบัติได้เกิดขึ้นโดยความต้องการความช่วยเหลือที่คริสตจักรได้พบ และสิ่งที่ท้าทายเกี่ยวกับสภาพปัญหาสังคม กลุ่มผู้ด้อยโอกาส กลุ่มเด็ก หญิงตั้งครรภ์ไม่พึงประสงค์ เหล่านี้เป็นการกําหนดเป้าหมายตั้งแต่เริ่มต้น ต่อมาได้ขยายพันธกิจเพื่อให้ความช่วยเหลือกลุ่มผู้ติดเชื้อเอชไอวี(HIV) กลุ่มผู้ยากไร้และผู้สูงอายุที่ถูกทอดทิ้งในปัจจุบัน

ตลอดเวลาได้ดําเนินพันธกิจต่างๆ โดยผู้ร่วมงานที่อุทิศตนและที่ ได้ รับการทรงเรียกเพื่อรับใช้พระเยซูคริสต์โดยกระทําพันธกิจเพื่อช่วยเหลือคนยากจน ซึ่งถือว่าเป็นผู้ที่สําคัญน้อยที่สุดในสายตาของสังคม นอกจากนี้ฉันขอใช้โอกาสนี้เพื่อแสดงความขอบคุณด้วยน้ํา ใสใจจริง แก่ทุกคนที่อธิษฐานเผื่อและให้การสนับสนุนพันธกิจต่างๆ ของแผนกฯ ตลอดหลายปีที่ผ่านมา วารสารฉบับนี้ได้นําเสนอภาพ ประวัติการดําเนินงานและข่าวสารล่าสุดของพันธกิจต่างๆ ในแผนกฯ อีกครั้งหนึ่ง ถึงเวลาของการรับกล่องออมทรัพย์สีม่วงแล้ว! พันธกิจยัง ดํา เนินงานต่อไปและเปิดโอกาสให้ทุกคนมีส่วนร่วมในงานคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ของสภาฯ ด้วยการออมทรัพย์ของเราเพื่องาน การ ช่วยเหลือ ในช่วงเทศกาลมหาพรต กล่องออมทรัพย์สีม่วงนี้จะจัด ส่งให้ทุกๆคริสตจักรและทุกคนจะได้รับกล่องออมทรัพย์ที่คริสต จักรในวันคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ ซึ่งตรงกับวันอาทิตย์ที่ 13 มีนาคมนี้

เราจึงขอให้ผู้ที่สนใจให้การสนับสนุนพันธกิจคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ ต่าง ๆ ของสภาฯ ได้นํากล่องออมทรัพย์สีม่วงกลับบ้าน และเริ่มออมทรัพย์ตลอด 40 วันของเทศกาลมหาพรต จนถึงนํากล่องออมทรัพย์สีม่วงนั้น กลับมามอบให้คริสตจักรในการนมัสการวันคืน พระชนม์ (อีสเตอร์) เงินถวายสามารถนําไปช่วยเหลือผู้คนที่ยากไร้ผ่านทางคริสตจักร หรือนํามามอบให้แผนกคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ฯ ก็สามารถทําได้ด้วยเช่นกัน ขึ้นอยู่กับคริสตจักรจะพึงปฏิบัติเช่นใดฉันขอหนุนใจทุกๆ ท่านมสี่วนร่วมในกิจกรรมนี้ แม้ว่าเป็น จํานวนเพียงเล็กน้อยแต่มีคุณค่าและความหมาย แผ่นดินของพระเจ้านั้น ความดีงามไม่ได้วัดกันด้วยจํานวนเป็นตัวเลขได้แต่เหมือนพระคํา

Heartfelt thanks to all of you Th ank you for your love, for your concern and for your kindness towards the children and teachers at the Immanuel and the Home of Praise Day Nurseries.

Christmas and National Children’s day CelebrationsTh roughout the whole of last year we could feel the love of God through those who supported us and through our fellow co-workers who encouraged us and prayed for us. Th anks be to God for all the activities that were arranged for children and brought them joy and happiness, in particular, those taking place on Christmas and National Children’s day. Th e two day nurseries were anxious that they would not have enough presents for the children, yet thankfully the “We love Th ai children”-project, nearby communities, visitors, and the children’s guardians contributed to the causes.

Some supplied money whilst others gave toys and sweets, and we managed to present each child with a gift. We found out that there are many adults who are genuinely concerned about these children, even if they may not have been blood relatives. We could see from the smiling faces of the children that they were extremely happy to receive gifts, whilst guardians who participated were also delighted to have the chance to contribute to the “Because of Love”-themed Christmas celebration organized alongside the Immanuel congregation.

Abundant opportunities for poor children Both nurseries are situated in the middle of a slum area accommodating unprivileged and poor families. Th ere are many children who do not have anybody to look after them as both of their parents often have to work in order to make a living and sup-port their family. Th erefore, various useful activities arranged by the day nurseries are well received. Opportunities to learn and have new experiences in a safe environment are off ered by caring teachers. Th e children are also provided with opportunities to improve their linguistic skills, as well as learn to appreciate music and arts with expe-rienced missionaries and volunteers who help at the two nurseries. In addition, these nurseries also help other children from nearby communities by off ering services they can join in on, too: for example, afternoon activities at the Home of Praise are open to all children including those of the neighbouring communities. As these children grow up and enroll in elementary school, the day nurseries co-operate with the Family Development ministry of the ELCT to grant scholarships for some of them. In some cases this support may even be extended until university level. Abundant opportunities for poor children

Donation from Hinet Computer SystemDuring the new school year 2011 both of the nurseries are expecting enrollment fi gures to increase. Th erefore, we were very delighted to receive a donation of eight computers from Hinet Computer System Company. Th ese second hand computers were checked and found to be in working order and were kindly installed by the company for free, and are now ready to be used by the children and the teachers at the Immanuel Day Nursery. Th is generous donation will enable the children to search for new informa-tion using a wide range of media, learn to use computers correctly and become more comfortable with technology.

We request your prayers for the new children to be enrolled for the next school year and the health of both the children and teachers. Please come and visit us again any time!

หนึ่งปีผ่านไปเราเห็นความรักของพระเจ้าผ่านทางพี่น้องและเพื่อนผู้ร่วมงานที่ให้การสนับสนุนทั้งคําหนุนใจ การอธิษฐานเผื่อขอบคุณพระเจ้าสําหรับการจัดกิจกรรรมต่างๆให้กับเด็ก ทําให้เด็กได้รับความสุขสนุกสนานโดยเฉพาะกิจกรรมวันคริสตมาสและวันเด็กซึ่งสถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กฯ ทั้ง 2 แห่ง ยังหวั่นใจว่าจะไม่มีของขวัญมาให้ เด็กในที่สุดก็ได้รับของขวัญหลายแห่ง เช่น โครงการเรารักเด็กไทย จาก แขกที่มาเยี่ยมในชุมชนและจากผู้ปกครอง เป็นทั้งเงินสิ่งของและขนมได้นํามา จัดเป็นของขวัญให้เด็กๆได้รับกันทุกคนทําให้รู้ว่ายังมีผู้ใหญ่ใจดีหลายคนที่ยังรักและห่วงใยเด็กๆ แม้ว่าไม่ใช่ลูกหลานทําให้เด็กต่างปลาบปลื้มใจและดีใจเป็นอย่างมากเมื่อได้รับของขวัญดจูากใบหนา้ทีเ่ดก็ยิม้แยม้แจม่ใส ผูป้กครองเองกม็คีวามสขุสนกุสนานไม่แพ้ไปกว่าเด็กในการจัดวันคริสมาสร่วมกับคริสตจักรอิมมานูเอลฯในหัวข้อ “เพราะรัก” ที่ผ่านมาสถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กฯ ทั้ง 2 แห่งตั้งอยู่ในใจกลางของชุมชนแออัด ที่มีครอบครัวที่ด้อยโอกาสและฐานะยากจนไม่มีผู้ดูแลเด็กๆ ซึ่งพ่อแม่ผู้ปกครองต้องออกไปทํางาน หาเลี้ยงครอบครัว จึงเป็นโอกาสดีที่สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กฯได้จัดกิจกรรมต่างๆซึ่งเป็นประโยชน์ให้กับเด็กได้เรียนรู้ ได้รับประสบการณ์ ได้รับการบริการที่ดี มีความปลอดภัยจากการดูแลเอาใจใส่ของครูผู้ร่วมงาน อีกทั้งให้เด็กได้รับโอกาสพัฒนาทางด้านภาษา เรียนดนตรีศิลปะกับมิชชั่นนารีและอาสาสมัครที่มีประสบการณ์เข้ามาช่วยงานไม่เพียงเท่านี้ สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กฯ ยังมีส่วนช่วยเหลือพัฒนาเด็กที่อยู่ในชุมชนได้ เข้ามารับบริการโดยทํากิจกรรมต่างๆร่วมกันโดยเฉพาะกิจกรรมตอนเย็นที่สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กบ้านสรรเสริญจัดให้กับเด็กทุกคนในชุมชน และเมื่อเด็กเหล่านี้เติบโตขึ้นเข้าสู่การเรียนในระดับประถมศึกษา สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กฯได้มีส่วนส่งเสริมสนับสนุนเด็กบางครอบครัวให้ได้รับทุนการศึกษาผ่านทางพันธกิจพัฒนาครอบครัวจนถึงระดับปริญญาตรี ในเดือนที่ผ่านมาสถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กฯ รู้สึกดีใจเป็นอยา่งยิ่งที่ได้รับการบริจาคคอมพิวเตอร์จากบริษัทไฮเน็ตคอมพิวเตอร์

First of all, happy new year 2011 and a happy Valentine’s day to all of you! In this year’s fi rst

issue we would like to share some news from our AIDS-ministry with you.

Here at the AIDS Support Center we recognized the importance of holistic support for HIV-positive people, this including physical, emotional and mental care. Therefore, we decided to commence monthly Art Therapy activities to take care of and support the mental health of the HIV-positive. The group meets once a month at a peaceful public park. First each of the participants is given an opportunity to draw a picture and express one’s feelings through drawing. Afterwards, everyone is given time to share and explain their drawing, which helps them to effectively communicate their emotions, feelings and life situations. This has a positive mental impact on people, offering relief from the stress of daily diffi culties as well as making them mentally strong enough to tackle problems individually.

Each month the group consisting of six HIV-positive persons comes together for the Art therapy session to express their emotions through pictures. The leaders of the group begin gathering the participants’ works from the very fi rst session, and will continue to do so until they see a

change or some form of improvement in the participant’s emotional state. It is only after this that other areas of holistic support are approached. During these art therapy sessions, the HIV-positive participants can also share their own experiences and give others ideas in how to better take care of one’s health. We are confi dent that these sessions will prove benefi cial, as a case

study of an HIV-positive person suffering from mental problems and a high stress

level revealed that after attending personal weekly art therapy sessions, her mental health improved enormously and she gradually became emotionally independent enough to face and solve the problems in her daily life by herself.

On the 1st of December 2010 the AIDS Support Center helped to arrange a World AIDS day event at Ubonratchathani province hosted by the Ubon Good News congregation. Congregations of the ELCT district four, local communities, schools, colleges and provincial health authorities all participated in the event and also arranged an exhibition at the church compound. The activities on the day started from Varin district offi ce where a procession was formed, which then headed to Ubon Good News Church through the center of the Varin municipality. At the church the local district head, Mr.Wichian Klaikangwan delivered the opening words and the vicar of the Ubon Good News Church, Rev. Kaew Thowannang, welcomed the 300 participants. The program at the church consisted of speeches by offi cial guests and AIDS info provided by the health authorities. Between speeches the audience was also given the chance to enjoy beautiful Thai dances and an AIDS-themed play prepared by local youths. After the offi cial activities inside the church, lunch was served and booths were open to audience members, allowing them to take advantage of free health check-ups and hair cuts, amongst other activities.

พันธกิจศูนย์กําลังใจได้เห็นถึงความสําคัญ ด้านการบําบัด รักษาสุขภาพร่างกายความรู้สึกและจิตใจของผู้ติดเชื้อเอชไอวี จึงได้นํากิจกรรมศิลปะบําบัด(Art therapy)มาเยียวยา เพื่อบําบัดรักษาสุขภาพด้านจิตใจของผู้ติดเชื้อเอชไอวี โดยมีกิจกรรมนัดพบกันนอก สถานที่เดือนละครั้ง โดยให้ทุกคนได้มีโอกาสวาดรูปจาก ความรู้สึกของตนออกมาเป็นภาพและอธิบายจากการวาดภาพเพื่อสื่อถึงอารมณ์ ความรู้สึกและชีวิตของตนออกมา ซึ่งก็ทําให้ผู้ติดเชื้อเอชไอวีแต่ละคนมีสุขภาพจิตที่ดีขึ้น และได้รับการผ่อนคลายจากความเครียด หรือปัญหาชีวิตพร้อมทั้งมีความเข้มแข็งทางด้านจิตใจ พอที่จะแก้ไขปัญหาด้วยตัวเองได้ ทุกเดือนกลุ่มผู้ติดเชื้อเอชไอวีทั้ง 6 คน จะได้รับการบําบัด โดยสื่อถึงความรู้สึกความต้องการในขณะนั้นออกมาเป็นภาพวาด

จากนั้นผู้ที่ทําการประเมินก็จะเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลตั้งแต่เริ่มแรกจนถึงระยะของการเปลี่ยนแปลงว่า บุคคลดังกล่าวได้มีการพัฒนา สภาวะทางอารมณ์และความคิดดีขึ้น จากนั้นจึงส่งเสริมศักยภาพในด้านอื่นๆ ต่อไป ในการบําบัดผู้ติดเชื้อเอชไอวีจะมีโอกาสให้กําลังใจและแบ่งปันประสบการณ์การดูแลสุขภาพร่างกายให้ซึ่งกันและกัน จากกรณีศึกษาผู้ติดเชื้อเอชไอวีคนหนึ่งที่มีปัญหาทางจิตใจ และมีความเครียดมาก จนกระทั่งได้ทําศิลปะบําบัดเป็นการสว่นตัวสัปดาห์ละครั้ง ปรากฏว่าหลังจากทํากิจกรรมศิลปะบําบัด(Art therapy) มีผลทําให้ผู้ติดเชื้อเอชไอวีมีสุขภาพจิตดีขึ้นเรื่อยๆอีกทั้งทําให้มีอารมณ์มั่นคงและเข้มแข็ง พร้อมที่จะเผชิญและแก้ไขปัญหาต่างๆ ในชีวิตด้วยตัวของตนเอง

‘งานวันเอดส์โลกครั้งแรกที่อุบลฯเป็นครั้งแรกที่พันธกิจศูนย์กําลังใจได้ช่วยจัดวัน

เอดส์โลกที่จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี วันที่ 1 เดือนธันวาคม 2010 โดยคริสตจักรข่าวดีอุบลฯ เป็นเจ้าภาพ คริสตจักรในเขต 4 ของสภาฯ ชุมชนใกล้เคียง โรงเรียน วิทยาลัย และสาธารณสุข จังหวัดได้เข้าร่วมงานและจัดซุ้มนิทรรศการที่คริสตจักร กิจ กรรมเริ่มต้นโดยการเดินขบวนจากสํานักงานเทศบาลวาริน ชําราบมุ่งหน้าสู่คริสตจักรข่าวดีอุบลฯ ในพิธีการได้รับเกียรติ จากนายกเทศมนตรีเทศบาลเมืองวารินชําราบ นายวิเชียร ไกรกังวาน ได้กล่าวเปิดงาน หลังจากนั้นศาสนาจารย์แก้ว

โทวันนัง ศิษยาภิบาลคริสตจักรข่าวดีอุบลฯ กล่าวต้อนรับแขก ทีเ่ขา้รว่มงานประมาณ 300 คน สว่นรายการอืน่ๆ ประกอบดว้ย คํากล่าวจากแขกผู้มีเกียรติ การบรรยายให้ความรู้โรคเอดส์ จากเจ้าหน้าที่สาธารณสุข การรําไทย และการแสดงละคร จากกลุ่มเยาวชนท้องถิ่น

เสร็จพิธีได้รับประทานอาหารร่วมกัน อีกทั้งได้มี บริการตัดผม ตรวจสุขภาพ และกิจกรรมอื่นๆ ฟรีตลอดงาน

ล่วงเลยปีใหม่มาก็เป็นเวลา 2-3 เดือนแล้ว ตื่นกันหรือยังค่ะพี่น้อง พันธกิจผู้สูงอายุ ก็ต้องเตรียมตัวเตรียมงานผู้สูงอายุที่จะมีใน เดือนเมษายนนี้แล้ว มีโอกาสออกเยี่ยมเยียนหลังจากปีใหม่ไม่มีอะไรที่เปลี่ยนแปลงมาก นักสําหรับคุณยายคุณตาทั้ งหลายของเราข้ าพ เจ้ ามี โอกาสได้อ่ าน“รายงานสถาน การณ์ผู้สูงอายุไทยในพ.ศ 2551” ซึ่งเป็นการ ทํางานเชิงปฎิบัติของ “มูลนิธิสถาบันวิจัย และพัฒนาผู้สูงอายุไทย (มส.ผส.)” ทราบกัน หรือไม่ว่ าจํ านวนประชากรผู้สูงอายุหรือ ประชากรที่มีอายุตั้งแต่ 60 ปีขึ้นไปเพิ่มขึ้นจาก 1.5 ล้านคนในปี 2503 และในปี 2551 มีจํานวนประมาณ 7.4 ล้านคน คาดว่าจะเพิ่มขึ้นถึง 17.7 ล้านคนในปี 2573 ในจํานวนประชากรสูงอายุ เหลา่นี้นั้นมีการเพิ่มขึ้น อย่างต่อเนื่องของสัดส่วนกลุ่มประชากรที่อยู่ในวัยสูงอายุวัยปลายที่อาจจะต้องพึ่งพาผู้อื่นในด้านเศรษฐกิจ สังคม การทํากิจวัตรประจําวัน มีแนวโน้มเพิ่มมากยิ่งขึ้นและแนวโน้มสัดส่วนเพศหญิงมากกว่าเพศชาย ปัญหาล่าสุดที่พบในรายงานปี 2551 ซึ่ง เริ่มมีการรายงานรายละเอียดในปีนี้ มีข้อมูล ด้านสุขภาพที่เป็นสาเหตุการเจ็บป่วยของผู้สูง อายุต้องเข้ารับบริการในสถานพยาบาล ผู้ป่วยมักพบว่าป่วยด้วยโรคต่างๆ เรื้อรังสูงสุด

ได้แก่ โรคทางสมอง จิตเวชและโรคมะเร็ง รอง ลงมาคือโรคความดันโลหิตสูงและโรคความผิดปกติของต่อมไร้ท่อ ผู้สูงอายุมากกว่าครึ่งมี ปัญหาการมองเห็น ปัญหาที่น่าสนใจเป็นพิเศษอีกคือ ภาวะสมองเสื่อมที่พบมากขึ้น ซึ่งมีภาวะเสี่ยงทางสุขภาพและสังคม ดังนั้นผู้สูงอายุส่วนใหญ่จึงจําเป็นที่จะมีผู้ดูแลอยู่เป็นเพื่อนและเฝ้าระวังภาวะเสี่ยงเหล่านี้แต่จาก ข้อมูลพบว่ายังมีผู้สูงอายุที่ต้องอยู่ลําพังร้อยละ13.5 และอยู่ตามลําพังกับคู่สมรสซึ่งอาจ เป็นผู้สูงอายุด้วยกันอีกร้อยละ 3.8 ปัจจัยในเรื่องการย้ายถิ่นของ บุตรยังมีผลต่อการให้การดูแลและเกื้อหนุนผู้ สูงอายุ โดยเฉพาะทางด้านกายภาพด้วย ที่ข้าพเจ้ายกข้อมูลมาให้พี่น้องอ่านต้องการให้พี่น้องเห็นว่าปญัหาผู้สูงอายุอยู่ใกล้ตัวเราทุกคนปีนี้พันธกิจผู้สูงอายุมีโครงการ“ชีวิตที่เหลืออยู่” เป็นโครงการที่พี่น้อง จะมีโอกาสแบ่งปันความรัก การช่วยเหลือ กําลังใจ ให้กับกลุ่มผู้สูงอายุที่อยู่ในพันธกิจโดยสมัครเป็นผู้อุปการะคุณตาคุณยายที่ต้อง การช่วยเหลือเพียงวันละ 20 บาท สามารถแบ่งปันความรักขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าแก่คนยากจนขัดสนได้แล้ว สามารถสมัครเป็นผู้อุปการะที่พันธกิจผู้สูงอายุ เลขที่ 6 ลาดพร้าว ซอยลาดพร้าว 58 เขตวังทองหลาง กรุงเทพฯโทร. 089897 3392 หรือแผนกคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ลูเธอร์แรน โทร.02 332 0054

As you’ve probably noticed, the past few weeks have gone by quickly and we’ve already passed the New Year by a couple of months! Hence, the Ministry among Elderly has to soon begin preparing for the National Day for Elderly held in April. After having visitied our elderly in the beginning of the year, there seemed to be no major changes in their lives.

However, I recently had the opportunity to read a report regarding the situation of the elderly in 2008. It was an output from the Foundation of Thai Gerontology Research and Development. Did you know that the number of elderly (in this case, people over the age of 60 years old) in Thailand has increased from 1,5 million in 1960 to approximately 7,4 million in 2008? It is estimated that this number will increase signifi cantly to 17,7 million by 2030. With this change in demographic, the proportion of elderly within the total population will grow continuously, and hence, we will be left with a more economically dependent population, with a smaller proportion of the population working. It is also estimated that the proportion of women to men will increase signifi cantly.

The latest problem identifi ed in the 2008 report dealt with health issues. It outlined that the main reasons for the admission of elderly to hospitals are chronic diseases, these including brain and psychiatric diseases and cancer, followed by high blood pressure. More than half of the elderly are expected to have problems with their vision, whilst one of the most remarkable fi ndings in the report was the increasing number of Alzheimer’s cases, carrying signifi cant health and societal impacts. Given these health issues, many retirees require special attention and care, yet according to current surveys, 13.5 percent of elderly live alone, and only 3.8 percent live with a spouse. The migration of younger generations in search of job opportunities further away from their parents may have contributed to this isolation and gradual decrease in familial care of elderly.

I wanted to briefl y share some of the fi ndings of this survey with you in order to raise awareness of some of the issues concerning the elderly population. This year, the Ministry among Elderly plans to start a project called “The Remaining Live,” which enables all of you to participate in the care of our older demographic. You can register as a sponsor for an elderly member of the community, and with as little as 20 baht a day, share God’s love with someone else in need. Those interested in registering to become sponsors can do so at the offi ce of the Ministry among

1. ในปีคริสตศักราช 1976 สมาคมมิชชั่นนอร์เวย์ , สมาคมมิชชั่นฟินแลนด์เมื่อทั้งสองสมาคมได้ร่วมกันก่อตั้ง“มิชชั่น ลูเธอร์แรนแห่งประเทศไทย”นับเป็นการลงหลักปักฐานนับตั้งแต่บัดนั้นเป็นต้นมา ในปีเดียวกันนั้นได้เปิดสถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กอิมมานูเอล (เดิมชื่อว่า กล้วยน้ําไท)

2. ปีคริสตศักราช 1985 คริสเตียนสงเคราะห์จังหวัดอุบลฯ ก็ได้เริ่ม โครงการตามโรงเรียน” เพื่อช่วยเหลือนักเรียนชนบทที่ห่างไกลจากสถานศึกษา ที่เรียนต่อในระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้นและมัธยม ศึกษาตอนปลาย ด้วยการมอบทุนการศึกษาและจัดหาที่พักให้

3. ปีคริสต์ศักราช 1987 ถือเป็นปีแห่งการก่อตั้ง “แผนกคริสเตียนสง เคราะห์ลูเธอร์แรน” ขึ้นโดยเดิมทีมีชื่อเรียกว่า“คริสเตียนบริการลูเธอร์แรน” โดยมีนโยบายเพื่อสนับสนุนคริสตจักรท้องถิ่นให้ดํา เนินงานคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ ในขณะเดียวกันก็ริเริ่มโครงการใหม่ๆ ตามความต้องการของสังคมในเวลานั้น จนในที่สุดจึงได้เปลี่ยนชื่อ มาเป็น “แผนกคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ลูเธอร์แรน” จวบจนปัจจุบัน

4. ใ น เ ดื อ น ธั น ว า คมปี เ ดี ย ว กั น “ พั น ธ กิ จ บ้ า น พ ร ะ คุ ณ ” ได้เริ่มก่อตั้งขึ้น ซอยโชดชัย 4 เขตลาดพร้าวเป็นบ้านพักฉุก เฉินสําหรับสตรีตั้งครรภ์นอกสมรส จนกระทั่งปีคริสตศักราช 1996 ก็ได้จัดซื้อบ้านพักถาวรจํานวน 3 หลัง ซึ่งสามารถรับผู้รับบริการครั้งละ 20 คน ณ อําเภอสําโรงใต้ จังหวัดสมุทรปราการ และเป็นที่ทําการจวบจนปัจจุบัน

5. ในปคีริสต์ศักราช 1990 ได้ก่อตั้งโครงการใหม่อีกคือ โครงการผ่านคริสตจักร หอพักบ้านอิมมานูเอล โครงการสถานรับ เลี้ยงเด็กร่วมใจ และโครงการผ่านคริสตจักร ซึ่งก่อตั้งขึ้นเพื่อ สนับสนุนโครงการเล็กๆ ในคริสตจักรท้องถิ่นให้สามารถจัดตั้งโครงการต่างๆ ตามที่คริสตจักรต้องการ เช่น โครงการธนาคารโคกระบือ การเพาะเห็ดฟาง การเลี้ยงเป็ด เลี้ยงปลา โครงการทุนการศึกษา และพัฒนาอาชีพ ส่วน“โครงการหอพักบ้านอิมมานูเอล”ได้ก่อตั้งขึ้นโดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อช่วยเหลือเด็กนักเรียนที่ฐานะ

ยากจนและอยู่ห่างไกลสถานศึกษา โดยให้ความช่วยเหลือด้าน ทุนการศึกษาและที่พักอาศัย จนกระทั่งปีคริสตศักราช 1993 ได้ดําเนินการก่อสร้างหอพักนักเรียนที่อําเภอพิบูลมังสาหารขึ้น

ซึ่งแล้วเสร็จสมบูรณ์ในปีคริสตศักราช 1994 เป็นอาคารหอพัก 3 ชั้น แบ่งเป็นหอพักหญิงและหอพักชาย สามารถรับนักเรียนได้ทั้งสิ้นจํานวน 45 คน

6. ส่วน “โครงการสถานเลี้ยงเด็กร่วมใจ” เป็นโครงการระยะสั้นๆ ก่อตั้ งขึ้ น เพื่ อช่ วยเหลือลูกคนงานก่อสร้างสนามกีฬาหัว หมากแรกเริ่มได้เช่าทาวน์เฮาส์ 2 ชั้น อยู่หลังมหาวิทยาลัยอัส สัมชัญ ต่อมาในปีคริสตศักราช 1993 ได้ย้ายที่ทําการมายัง คริสตจักรข่าวดีภาษีเจริญ เปิดรับเลี้ยงเด็กก่อนวัยเรียนอายุ ระหว่าง 3-6 ขวบ จนกระทั่งได้ปิดโครงการลง ในปีคริสตศกัราช 2000

7. ในปีคริสต์ศักราช 1992 “พันธกิจพัฒนาครอบครัว” ได้ก่อตั้ง พันธกิจขึ้นเพื่อช่วยเหลือเด็กและครอบครัวที่มีฐานะยากจนและ ด้อยโอกาส มุ่งเน้นพัฒนาชีวิตทั้ง 4 ด้าน คือ 1. ด้านทุนการศึกษา 2. ด้านทุนประกอบอาชีพ 3. ด้านทุนสุขภาพและอนามัย 4.ด้านการพัฒนาคุณธรรมและจริยธรรม ดําเนินงานจวบจนปัจจุบัน

8. ในปีคริสตศักราช 1994 ถือเป็นการเปลี่ยนแปลงครั้งยิ่งใหญ่ ด้วยแนวคิดคริสตจักรของคนไทย ดูแลโดยคนไทยทําให้ “สภา คริสตจักรลูเธอร์แรนแห่งประเทศไทย” ได้ก่อตั้งขึ้น พันธกิจต่างๆ

ที่มิชชั่นลูเธอร์แรนผิดชอบทั้งปวงนั้น ได้มอบให้สภาคริสต จักรลูเธอร์แรน เป็นผู้รับผิดชอบตั้งแต่บัดนั้นเป็นต้นมา 9. สถานการณ์ปัญหาโรดเอดสในขณะนั้นนับวัน จะ แพร่ระบาดเพิ่มมากยิ่งขึ้น ทําให้ในปีคริสต์ศักราช 1995 ได้ก่อตั้งโครงการ “ศูนย์บ้านใหม่”ขึ้นโดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อการป้องกันและการให้คําปรึกษาโรคเอดส์ อีกทั้งเปิดเป็นบ้าน พักสําหรับผู้ป่วยเอชไอวีด้วยต่อมาเมื่อได้มีการประเมินผลการดําเนินงานที่ผ่านมา จึงมีการปรับเปลี่ยนวัตถุประสงค์โครงการ และในปีคริสตศักราช 2001 ได้เปลี่ยนชื่อมาเป็น “พันธกิจศูนย์กําลังใจ” ตั้งแต่บัดนั้นเป็นต้นมา10. ในปีคริสต์ศักราช 1996 ได้ก่อตั้ง “โครงการอุป การะทารกถูกทิ้งในโรงพยาบาล” ซึ่งเป็นโครงการระยะสั้นเพื่อช่วยเหลือเด็กกําพร้าเหล่านั้นให้มีครอบครัวอุปถัมภ์ 11. ในปีคริสต์ศักราช 2003 “พันธกิจผู้สูงอายุ” ก่อกําเนิด ขึ้นโดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อช่วยเหลือและบรรเทาปัญหาผู้สูง อายุ โดยตั้งแต่ปี 2002 นั้นได้ทําการสํารวจลู่ทางการทําพันธกิจและศึกษาวิจัยปัญหาผู้สูงอายุ โดยมีสํานักงานครั้งแรก ณ คริสตจกัรลาดพร้าว และต่อมาภายหลังได้ย้ายสํานักงานไปอยู่ที่คริสตจักรข่าวดีอุบลจนถึงปัจจุบัน 12. ปีคริสตศักราช 2003 สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กบ้านสรรเสริญ ได้ ก่อตั้งขึ้นโดยคริสตจักรอิมมานูเอลลูเธอร์แรน เปิดให้บริการบริ เวณชุมชนแออัดในย่านคลองเตย

13. บรรดามิชชั่นนารีรุ่นแรกที่เข้ามาบุกเบิกงานคริสเตียนสง เคราะห์ ได้แก่ นางสาวอันเนลี่ เกินนี่ ซึ่งเป็นผู้อํานวยแผนก คริสเตียนสงเคราะห์คนแรก ผู้ร่วมก่อตั้งพันธกิจต่างๆ และวาง โครงสร้างแผนกคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์จนถึงปัจจุบัน

14. ปีคริสตศักราช 2008 และนับจากนี้ไป “แผนกคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ลูเธอร์แรน” ได้ดําเนินงานต่างๆ ภายใต้ “มูลนิธิคริสตจักรลูเธอร์แรน” ซึ่งปัจจุบันมี บิชอปวิษณุกร อุปมา เป็นประธานกรรมการมูลนิธิฯ ซึ่งประกอบด้วยพันธกิจต่างๆ ดังนี้ 1.พันธกิจบ้านพระคุณ 2.บ้านพักอมิมานูเอล 3. พันธกิจ พัฒนาครอบครัว 4. พันธกิจศูนย์กําลังใจ 5. พันธกิจผู้สูงอายุ 6. สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กอิมมานูเอล 7. สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กบ้านสรรเสริญ 8.โครงการผ่านคริสตจักร

15. กว่า 35 ปีที่ผ่านมาแผนกคริสเตียนสงเคราะห์ลูเธอร์แรน ได้สั่ง สมประสบการณ์อันล้ําค่า ผ่านเวลาแห่งการเยียวยา บําบัด รักษาชีวิตและจิตใจของผู้คน ตลอดจนการผ่านช่วงเวลาการบรรเทาความทุกข์ยากให้แก่ผู้คนในสังคมมากมาย บุคคลต่างๆ ทั้ง คนไทยและมิชชั่นนารี ได้แวะเวียนเข้ามาสร้างสรรค์สังคมให้ดีขึ้น เกิดความทรงจําที่ดีแล้วก็จากไป หากแต่สิ่งเดียวที่ยึดมั่นไม่เคย เปลี่ยนแปลงคือการสําแดงความรักของ พระเยซูคริสต์ผ่านการปรนนิบัติรับใช้ และบรรเทาความทุกข์ยากของผู้คนในสังคมที่จะ ดํารงอยู่คู่ กับคริสตจักร

1. In 1976 the Norwegian Mission Society (NMS)started work in Thailand. When the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission (FELM) came to Thailand in 1978 these two organisations co-founded “Lutheran Mission in Thailand “ (LMT). This represented the starting point from which the church developed. In the same year the Immanuel Day Nursery was opened, formerly called Banana tree Day Nursery.

2. In 1985 diakonia work began in the Ubon Ratchathani province. A “School project” was started to help poor children who lived far away from schools, providing them with scholarships and accommodation during secondary school. In addition to that some schools were assisted to start e.g. fi sh ponds and kitchen gardens.

3. In 1987 the “Lutheran Diakonia Department” (earlier called the “Lutheran Christian Service”) was established to back up congregational diakonia work. New programs were initiated simultaneously according to social needs.

4. In December 1987 the “Home of Grace” was established in Soi Chokchai Four at Ladprao area to provide emergency housing for pregnant women who didn’t have a place to stay. In 1996 three houses were purchased in Samrong South in Samutprakarn as a permanent residence. The Home of Grace is still located there and can accommodate up to 20 women at the same time.

5. In 1990 new projects were established: Immanuel Home Hostel, Ruamjai nursery and “Projects through congregations”-ministry. These small projects through congregations included for example Cattle Banks, fi sh farming, and small scholarships and assistance to professional studies.The “Immanuel Home Hostel” was started to help poor children who lived far away from school, providing both accommodation and scholarships. At fi rst the work was carried out in rented premises, but in 1993 an own dormitory was built in Phibun Mangsahaan district. The three-storey building with separated fl oors for girls and boys was fi nished in 1994. The dormitory can accommodate 45 students at the same time.

6. “ Ruamjai Nursery” was a short term project. It was established to help the children of the workers at the Hua Mark stadium construction site. At fi rst, a two storey townhouse behind Assumption University was rented. In 1993 the nursery was moved to the Phasichareon Church. The nursery cared for children of pre-school age, 3-6 years old. Ruamjai Nursery was closed down in 2000.

7. In 1992 the “Family Development Ministry” was established. It aims to offer relieve for poor and underprivileged children and families. The focus is on developing four areas: 1. Scholarships for schoolchildren. 2. Financial support to increase opportunities for employment 3. Support for medical expenses. 4. Support for moral and ethical development.

8. The year 1994 marks the biggest change. During that year the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thailand (ELCT) was founded. All programs and projects that had been under LMT came under the church’s responsibility, including diakonia work.

9. In 1995 as a consequence of the growing AIDS problem the “New Home Center”-project was founded to concentrate to the prevention of AIDS and providing counselling of HIV patients. In addition, a home for patients with HIV was opened. After an evaluation in 2001 the project was modifi ed and renamed as “AIDS Support Center”.

10. In 1996 the project “Ministry for abandoned babies in hospital” was created, being a short-term project to offer these orphans love and care.

11. In 2003 the “Ministry among Elderly people” was born. The aim was to assist and alleviate the problems of the elderly. In 2002 a survey was carried out to explore the opportunities to start work with the elderly and to research the problems of the elderly. The fi rst offi ce of this ministry was placed at Lat Prao Church. Later the offi ce was moved to its present place at the Good News Ubonratchathani Church.

12. “Home of Praise” was founded by the Immanuel Church in 2003 offering day care for young children and afternoon activities for youth in the Klong Toey slum area.

13. The fi rst pioneer missionary to start the diakonia work was Ms Anneli Könni, who was the fi rst director of the LDD. She started various ministries and created the structure of the department which is still used until today.

14. Since 2008 the work of the LDD has been carried out under the “Lutheran Christian Foundation in Thailand”, Bishop Vissanukon Upama being the present chairperson. The following ministries are currently run under the foundation: 1. Home of Grace 2. Immanuel Home Hostel 3.Family Development Ministry 4. AIDS Support Center 5. Ministry among Elderly People 6. Immanuel Day Nursery 7. Home of Praise Day Nursery 8. “Projects through congregations”-ministry

15. During the last 35 years the LDD has gained valuable experience, offered healing and care for lives and minds of people and relieve to the suffering in the society. Many Thais and missionaries have participated in building a better society, leaving good memories behind. The ONE thing that has not changed has been the manifestation of the love of Jesus Christ through the service and relief offered to the suffering people in the society.
