DIABETES SEMINAR MAY 14-20, 2017 Schloss Arenberg Salzburg, Austria TESTIMONIALS FROM FELLOWS After attending the DM seminar lectures, I found it more important to work on prevention, screening and early detection of diabetic patients since almost half of the patients don’t even know they are diabetic. For me, it was an amazing experience to attend and inter- act with the seminar over this week. I want to mention that all the fellows are so intelligent and experienced in different fields of diabetes, so we could share our experience and share new knowledge with each other. All the faculty members are so open and ready to help and discuss different diabetes relat- ed topics. The seminar was excellently prepared. I appreciate very much the possibility of going through the lectures once more because of our CD. I am more motivated to spend as much time as possi- ble with my patients, trying to understand their way of life in order to find a treatment that fits best. The seminar improved my skills to assess patients with diabetes and ulcerations (especially foot ulcerations). Also it improved my skills to teach my younger col- leagues. It was very informative, simple to understand, and there were a lot of cracticial tips that we can use in our practice. The lectures also cover all the main aspects of diabetology. ABOUT THE OMI DIABETES SEMINARWorldwide, 422 Million adults are suffering from Dia-betes and the global prevalence of diabetes has nearly doubled since 1980, rising to 8.5% in the adult popula-tion, according to the World Health Organization . The Open Medical Institute (OMI) has therefore put a focus on cardiovascular diseases and diabetes and started an annual Diabetes Seminar in collaboration with Colum-bia University, in New York, USA, Heinrich-Heine Uni-versity in Düsseldorf, Germany and the University of Belgrade, Serbia.

The aim of the Diabetes Seminar is to inform doctors around the world about the state-of-the-art in diagnostics and treatment of diabetes. At the same time, the Seminar is a great opportunity for the participants to discuss their cases with internationally recognized experts in diabetes and endocrinology and to exchange their experiences with other colleagues.

The Seminars target at young and mid-career level me-dical doctors who deal with diabetes-patients and are interested in research and teaching other colleagues and students.

If you are a medical doctor, have finished your residen-cy (or are in your last year of residency training), have an interest in diabetes, endocrinology or lipid metabo-lism, and speak English fluently, you can apply through: http://www.aaf-online.org/index.php/how-to-apply.html. Participants are selected based on their qualifica-tions and attend on scholarship.
