Graduation ceremony @ AusIS

On the third of December we have our 4th Graduation ceremony, which will be held at Campus 3. We have four students graduating this time. Their details are as follows: Mrittika Anan Rahman has been with AusIS since 2009, Min Ah Kim has

been with AusIS since 2003, Park Jin Su has been with AusIS since 2010, Nowrin Maimuna Trisha has been with AusIS since 2013.

It is great that we are very near to finish the 2nd term. The teachers and students of AusIS have been doing various kinds of activities throughout the whole term. IB has brought a new era in the sector of teaching and learn-ing. The class rooms have become a research center with the participation of young stars. If we just observe our students very deeply, we will see that they are becoming independent gradually. They spontaneously want to do something of their own. The charitable activity of the students of AusIS has created an example. How great it is when our little students share their per-sonal belonging with the needy! There will be a harmonious development of every student. It means AusIS wants that every student will grow physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.

2nd term is going to finish with some colorful events such as Graduation pro-gram, Science Fair, Victory day and Christmas Carnival. So you are cordially invited to celebrate these programs with AusIS.

We do wish a wonderful winter vacation to all. Remember, some great sur-prises are waiting for you in the 3rd term.

Campus 1 News

This month our students have been kept busy thinking about questions for our visiting speakers and practicing their best listening and thinking skills in the process. Our students are also practicing for Victory Day and Christmas Day presentations.

Our teachers have also been extremely busy this month. A number of them have gone for additional training. Mr. Zaman has been upgrading his soccer and P.E. leadership skills and also joined the national soccer team for their away game in Kazakhstan. Ms. Sharmin has engaged in an International I.T. Professional Development course in Kuala Lumpur. Ms. Farhana Rahman has attended a Professional Development session at The Aga Khan School in Dhaka based on the launch of some books about “Promoting Pluralism through Children’s Books.” (These books were given to us and will assist our teachers as a resource in Bangla lessons.) A note has gone home to all families about children arriving on time for assembly at 7:50am and about lateness in general. Children are marked as “late” after 8:00; thus, we appreciate your efforts in getting your children to school on time. Please also ensure that your children attend school all of the time. This continuity is important in many ways for your child such as reporting procedures and feeling included in the class.

PYP News We are just about to rap up our third Units of Inquiry (UOI). Thus far, the PYP has been a very exciting learning journey for everyone in the AusIS community and we have seen our students engaged in

many wonderful activities.

Over the last two weeks our teachers have been busy planning for our next Units of Inquiry (UOI 4) which will begin right after the winter holiday on January 11, 2016. As always, we would like to thank our parents, grandparents and family members for their support and we look forward to working

Campus 2 News Halloween was celebrated on the 29th of October when the students and staff dressed up as fictional characters. They spent their English lesson doing Halloween related activities and found out that the celebration has a history to it. Walking into the cam-pus surely gave a feeling of Halloween with all the decorations, discussions, activities and more!

AusIS Students as Philanthropists The year 5 team as part of their Unit of Inquiry raised donations to be given out to the NGOs working with the underprivileged children of the country like Bang-ladesh Community Service, Left Side Classroom, etc. We are delighted to inform that a lot of donations were collected and handed over to the representatives of the NGOs who visited our school. They also spoke

to our students during morning assembly informing them about their charity endeavors and the ways they have made a difference in changing the lives of many in distress. Our students have organized a communication and flight simulation game employing the use of ‘nano-drones’ to be offered during the Science Fair. The collection from the game is also intended to be donated to the Jaago Foundation.

The First ever Handball Match-Yr 4 vs. Yr 5 A handball match was organized for the students of year 4 & 5. This was their first time participating in a match like this at school in front of spectators. The other grade levels cheered as the audience and volunteered to record the scores. It was quite a match and the experience was exhilarating! In house matches like these really help to develop students’ physical and mental fitness and social skills. We look forward to organizing more of these matches in the future….

Science Fair Science Week went on full swing from 15th to 19th of November. This year’s Science Fair theme is ‘Earth & Space’ and projects of other scientific genres were also encouraged. The Science Fair will be hosted in c o l l a b o r a -tion with Campus-3 at Campus 2 on 6th of December.

Orange Day Bullying Awareness Day named as Orange day was hosted on the 26th of November. The students and staff wore orange to signify the celebration. During the day the students were engaged with fun indoor and outdoor activities to promote harmony and cooperation between our students. The students’ feel-

ings and opin-ions were encap-sulated in the form of poster work and dis-played in the yard for all to see.

AusIS students of Campus-2 and Campus-3 are rehearsing for celebrating Victory Day to be hosted at

Campus-3 on the 10th of December. The performances will showcase our country’s rich culture and vic-

tory post the 9 months long fight to freedom.

Campus 3 News November is usually a very busy month at C3 for both, the students and the teachers. The entire campus

has been busy preparing for the semester end exam. Our exam started from the 24 th of November, 2015.

Our current Grade 8s are attending a formal semester end exam for the first time, this year, so we wish

them the very best.

Halloween at AusIS

This term, C3 students started off with their long awaited event, Halloween. Halloween, one of the popular

traditions of AusIS, is a highly expected event. For the past couple of years, the Student Council has been

in charge of organising the event to ensure that it is the best possible experience for everyone. The day

kicked off with a riveting and challenging quiz full of riddles. Students participated with enthusiasm and

great cooperation, much to the student council’s excitement.

The winners of the quiz determined the order in which groups would enter the Haunted House, which

turned out to be a spooky but fun game. The objective was to find the Yellow Pumpkin and the air buzzed

with competition as all the groups tried to beat each other to be the one to find it.

The lunch was followed by a horror film. The movie was called Dead Silence and scary enough to have

everybody screaming during the particular horrifying scenes. Despite the fact that the movie was super-

scary, it was still fun because horror is a classic Halloween genre. Without it, it would not completely feel

like Halloween. The day ended with all the students contently going home, knowing that this would be an

unforgettable memory.

Our ability to solve present and future problems depends on our courage to question the world in new and

creative ways. With our knowledge of the world growing so rapidly, we must move away from having our

children simply memorize facts. Computers can do that much better and more efficiently. Instead, we

must emphasize the thinking skills that can put those facts to use, and create organization for new facts as

they emerge. What better opportunity for a child to develop such skills than to participate in his or her

school’s Science Fair! It is

my absolute honor to invite

you all to the most exciting

event of the year, the third

AusIS Science Fair. The

event was postponed due

to some unavoidable cir-

cumstances. We, the teachers are all here to answer all your queries about the event .Thank you for your

continued support. We hope to have all your cooperation to arrange a successful and exciting Science Fair!
