Types of Study Abroad

• Semester programs – Spend one or two semesters studying at

partner university in another country – Typically sophomore or junior year – Often linked to your major

• Short-term programs – Spend one to three weeks visiting one or

more countries – Can be done any time during your career – Typically led by faculty

DGS Short-Term Program

• Spring Break 2013 • Travelling to partner universities in

– Leuven, Belgium – Vienna, Austria

• Nine days of – Exploration of majors in an international

context – Cultural immersion and history – Sightseeing

• Exclusively for DGS honors freshmen

• Home of Katholieke University, often called KU Leuven

Vienna, Austria

Schedule

• March 15 – Depart from O’Hare • March 16 – Arrive Leuven & free time • March 17 – Tour of Brussels & EU • March 18 – History & culture of Leuven • March 19 – European vs. American Model • March 20 – Fly to Vienna & free time • March 21 – History & cultural of Vienna • March 22 – International careers • March 23 – Return to O’Hare

Costs for DGS Honors Students

• $1,500 covers – Multi-destination airline ticket – Eight nights of accommodations, including

breakfast – All entry/tour fees – Opening and closing night dinners

• You will be responsible for – Other meals – Miscellaneous expenses

• Additional scholarships available for Pell-eligible students

Credit

• Participants will register in GS 199KM – A two-hour course – The first eight weeks of Spring 2013

term • You must complete the class to take

the trip and you must complete the trip to earn credit in the course
