    We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Anne Dobre as Head of Seed Funds, effective 31March.

    Anne joined the Seed Funds team as Access to Capital and Investment Manager at the start of 2008, focusing onthe development of the Discovery Fund and biotechnology investments. She had previously worked forCambridge Enterprise in a variety of roles including Interim Director and Head of Technology Transfer. Anne wasa founding member of Praxis, the UK Technology Transfer Training Programme.

    Annes keen eye for quality investment opportunities, and her support for our young and established portfoliocompanies, will help ensure the continued success of companies based on University research.

    Anne takes over from Dr Geraldine Rodgers, who is retiring after close to 20 years at the University ofCambridge. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating Anne on her appointment and in wishing Geraldine allthe best in retirement. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Geraldine for her excellentcontributions during her time with the Cambridge Enterprise.

    Investment NewsIn the last quarter, two new investments have been approved.

    Camfridge has received further investment to enable the next generation of highefficiency domestic cooling

    appliances using novel technology based on magnets and magnetic materials. This technology has beendeveloped at Camfridge over the last five years and will deliver a 100% improvement in the efficiency of thecurrent mainstream A+ refrigerator. Magnetic refrigeration promises a number of benefits over conventionalmethods, including up to a 50% reduction in energy consumption, elimination of gas and ease of recycling.

    InputDynamicshas received further funding to continue the development of TouchDevice, a low cost software-only acoustic interface which effectively transforms a regular mobile phone into a touch screen phone. Thecompany attracted considerable attention when attending the worlds biggest mobile technology fair, Mobile WorldCongress, in Barcelona earlier this year. Jens Christensen, one of the companys co-founders, was also recentlyawarded the ICT pioneer awardby the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

    Funding updates

    Our portfolio companies continue to make progress and raise funds. UroSens, which is commercialising point-of-care tests for cancers of the urinogenitary tract for use in the urology clinic or doctor's surgery; and InotecAMD,which is developing topical oxygen therapy for the treatment of hard to heal wounds, have both recently securedfurther funding from existing investors.
