Violent and Criminal Incidents• Texas statute (TEC 39.053) requires every district to publish an annual report

that includes violent and criminal incidents at campuses in the district

• This piece of the report must include:

• Number, rate and type of incidents

• Information concerning school violence prevention and intervention policies and procedures used by the district

• Findings that result from Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act

School Violence Prevention & Violence Intervention Policies & Procedures

Safety Policies

• Safety Policy available in TASB Policy Book

• Emergency Operations Plan available at Central Office and on each campus

• Implementation of HB 121 -teen dating violence policy that includes safety planning, enforcement of protective orders, school-based alternatives to protective orders, counseling for affected students, and awareness education for students and parents.

• Implementation of House Bill 1041 - a plan for addressing sexual abuse of a children.

• Implementation of House Bill 1942 - Bullying Prevention and Reporting (reporting procedures on website)

• Teacher Training in Bullying, and Cyberbullying



Campus Interventions:

• Elementary - weekly character ed. classes (bullying, Stranger Danger, etc…) that include various curriculums. Red Ribbon week presentations.

• Devine Intermediate – Character Ed. Class; Red Ribbon week presentations; Bullying Presentation

• DMS - Bullying prevention lessons in PRIDE classes; Gossiping Lesson; and Safety Lesson in Pride

• DHS-Teen Dating Violence; Parental and Paternity Awareness (PAPA) curriculum in health class; and Bully and Cyberbullying awareness

• DMS & DHS – Web Safety Program; Red Ribbon Week presentations



Interventions

• Campus Monthly Drills

• Coordinated Lockdown Drills each semester with Officer Alexander, the Devine PD and local law enforcement for all campuses.

• Surveillance cameras at all campuses.

• Two-way intercom system at K-5 campuses

• Telephones in all classrooms

• Photo ID’s for all staff members

• Raptor System at each campus

• Red Ribbon Week activities on drug awareness at all campuses

• Secretary Training-Crisis Preparedness



Interventions

• Canine drug-detection program w/ Global

• Monthly student drug testing w/ForwardEdge at DHS

• Utilization of In-School Suspension (ISS), Disciplinary Alternative Education Placement (DAEP), and Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Placement (JJAEP)

• Medina County Campus Crime Stoppers

• Child Abuse Training for all staff

• Utilize SafeSchools Online Training



Interventions

• Continued implementation of School Messenger-parent notification system via phone and email. Attendance Notification.

• Three Year Safety Audit conducted by DISD – reported in July 2017

• Revised Emergency Operations Plans - August 2017

• Bullying training for teachers/staff – August 2017 – SafeSchools

• Safety Training – August 2017

• Long Distance Evacuation Drill w/ buses for teachers – August 2017

• Yearly CPR and AED training for required staff (ongoing)

• CPR Trainers (2) in district

• Training for bus drivers-first aide and epilepsy

• Diabetic Training for campus office staff with Mrs. Stricker
