What is This?

This is a presentation of the development of my Video Boy digipack. It includes images, both edited and unedited, of my Video Boy character in development.

There are also several custom backgrounds that I made using screenshots from the video game Minecraft. I wanted to use these backgrounds as alternatives to plainer textures are often seen in digipacks.

Design Screens

On the left is my first character design, and on the right is my second, and final. They are both quite similar in some aspects, namely clothing and colour scheme. This was intended. I had a desired theme for my character, which was something along the lines of ‘stylish and sophisticated. I wanted to keep this theme consistent in both character designs.

Character Maps

These character maps are what the Video Boy designs look like outside of Minecraft. They are small sized in order to preserve their resolution. Here, they are just seemingly randomly arranged rectangular shapes. In-game, however, they take on a completely different form – they map to the player’s model to change how they look, as shown on the front of my second digipack design.

Background 1

These images are screenshots from a club setting in Minecraft. On the left is a raw print screen taken in-game, and on the right is the edited image.

Background 2

A set of screenshots of the landscape in Minecraft, unedited and edited. I did not use this screenshot in either of my digipacks, but I did use a similar one seen on the next slide.

Background 3

Another set of Minecraft landscape screenshots. The edited image on the right was used in my second digipack design as the back cover.
