Instructions

List of Material Needed:

Construction:

Decorate_the_rolls_during_an_art_class._Students_could_decorate_the_horns_with_musical_symbols_or_any_design_that_they_wish.

Usage:

Once_the_horn_is_completely_decorated_have_the_students_sing_or_make_sounds_similar_to_a_horn_playing_into_the_rolls.

Notes, Rests, Music Signs of the Staff, and Stencils

1. There are two half page display sheets on notes, rests, and signs of the staff found on page 20. This sheet is to be cut along the dotted line. Both half sheets are to be mounted on a sturdy backing and laminated. The full page display sheet, found on page 21, should follow the same procedure. The display sheets could be put up on a bulletin board designed for musical information. The half page sheets and the full page sheet could also be added to the students’ music books for reference. 2. The worksheets found on pages 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26 deal with note and rest values. Addition, subtraction, and multiplication questions review the values of the notes and rests and the amount that they accumulate if calculated together.

3. On page 27 is a rhythm exercise. It has been designed to help students remember the difference in the note and rest values. This exercise can be done with sticks or clapping.

4. Pages 28 to 34 are based on the signs of the staff. The three worksheets on time signatures are very important. Time signatures are confusing but the focus is on the top number at this time.

5. The “Stencils” should be cut out and glued onto cardboard at this point and laminated to ensure longer usage. You may want to make extra copies as the “Stencils” wear out. The “Stencils” provide fun and creativity while learning the signs and symbols that pertain to music. This exercise may be done individually or in groups. The signs and symbols that are traced by the students could be changed into insects, other creatures or garden flowers. This exercise will spark students’ creativity and imagination. Some of the designs could be turned into greeting cards.
