Year in Review - 2016-17, Year 9

Financial Highlights

• I am delighted to announce that in the Academic Year 2016-17, Kinnaird PTA raised a

fantastic £14,737.73 Gross Income from Fundraising Events, plus Other Income of

£271.85 gives an overall Income of £15,009.58.

• The total benefit to Kinnaird Pupils is £11,471.62. The highest amount spent so far!

• Over the past 9 years, the Total Gross amount raised stands @ £114,525 and Kinnaird

Pupils have benefited a total amount of £68.876 to date.

Operating Highlights

• The Kinnaird PTA app called ‘The Thistle Point app’ was launched on Wednesday 11th

January 2017, it revolutionized the way we fundraise. Fraser Graham, now in P7; came

up with the ‘Winning Name’ in November 2016. Kinnaird PTA has been able to Connect,

Communicate & Collaborate with Parents/Carers like never before.

• The Launch featured in The Falkirk Herald on Thursday 19th January 2017 titled ‘Digital

Innovation is the ‘app’ of school’s eye.'

• App is powered via PTA School apps. We had over 200 downloads in 24hrs of launch.

There are 653 downloads to date &10,000+ sessions. App is sponsored by Enjoy-a-Ball.

Looking Ahead

After 4 productive and enjoyable years, it is time to pass on the ‘Finance Baton’ just as I

received it from Julie Johnstone in Oct 2013 (Treasurer from Aug 2009- Aug 2013). And

likewise, from Jennifer Henderson (2007 -2009) our first Treasurer. It has been an honor and

privilege to serve and contribute this way; working with 3 PTA Chair(s) Martin Lynagh (2013-

14), Sarah Gallacher (2014-15) & Catriona Jeffrey (2015-2017).

The ‘face’ of fundraising is changing & with the PTA adapting & embracing these changes, it

will continue to serve the needs of Kinnaird Pupils now and leave a legacy for generations to

come and an indelible mark that cannot be erased as Kinnaird celebrates 10 years!

Auditor’s Comments, Paul McKeever CA The Financial Statements 2016 -17 were audited by Paul McKeever (CA), and was signed on Friday 1st September 2017. The Year End Bank Balance stands @ £3,697.85 on Thursday 31st August 2017 fully confirmed on the RBS August 2017 Bank Statement. The information presented here is a summary, the full Financials are detailed in the Audit

packs and files with documentary evidences presented to the Auditor. Plus, a separate

folder for the previous year end Financial Statement(s) and Treasurer Report(s).

Thank you to Paul McKeever, a parent at Kinnaird. He has audited accounts for the past 7

years. This is his last Audit of the Kinnaird PTA Accounts.

Fundraising Events 2016-17

• There were 8 planned events. One was free, Helpers Evening and another was

cancelled due to lack of sellers for a Community Car Boot Sale.

• So, 6 Fundraising Events took place in 2016-17 which raised a gross total of

£14,737.73 less expenditure of £5,111.59 gives a net amount of £9,626.14 as the table

below shows.

• The increased amount raised is due to the increased roll in

P1& P2s last year (2015-16) and the previous year (2014 -15).

School Roll: 2014-15 = 588.

School Roll: 2015-16 = 624.

School Roll: 2016-17 = 727. (Snapshot figures at SPTC* Annual Insurance Renewal).

Benefit to Kinnaird Pupils = £11,471.62

Kinnaird pupils benefited the value of £11,471.62 in the Academic Year 2016-17.

The Benefit Statement was posted on The Thistle Point on Thursday 22nd June 2017 to notify

parents/carers about what the PTA had spent in 2016-17 from Fundraising Events.

These the breakdown of the £11,471.62 by:

• Nursery = £173.88

• Primary = £4,641.70

• Thistle Wing = £738.00

• The Whole School = £5,918.04 which gives a grand total of £11,471.62

Connect, Communicate, Collaborate - Milestones

• The Thistle Point app was launched on Wed 11th January 2017.

• Kinnaird Pupils were involved in naming the app in November 2016, Winning name

was by Fraser Graham, now in Primary 7.

• App available 24hrs in anytime zone across the world.

• Kinnaird PTA Bank Accounts was launched online in July 2015.

• Fixed Assets Register created in October 2016.

• Online payments and pay in Registers set up in Sept 2016.

• App idea was birthed on Saturday 22nd Oct 2016.

• ‘Go ahead’ to develop the app concept given by Headteacher on Monday 24th Oct ‘16

• App Application was submitted on Wed 16th November 2016

• Integration of payment services via the app available from May 2017.

• Online Donations page set up for Kinnaird PTA in June 2017, so far 2 local businesses

have donated online.

• Online Volunteer Sign Up Link for Helpers created in January 2017.

• Event Tickets: Tickets online or via the app created in January 2017

• PTA Finance: Half Year update sent to Parents via app in March 2017.

• Ongoing robust Finance Systems of recording transactions.

• Ongoing excellent links with local Businesses.

• Relaunch of The Club 200, now known as The Thistle Draw on Mon 10th April 2017.

• Dawn Averley & Evie Hurry sold Thistle Draw Tickets at the Summer Fayre, 20

Tickets were sold, one grandparent also bought a Ticket for ‘Kinnaird Primary School.

• End of the Year Summary on amount spent on Kinnaird Pupils was sent to

Parents/Carers via app on Thursday 22nd June 2017.
