Meade Lexus of Southfield was the scene for a gathering of
car enthusiasts and foodies when the newest member of the
Lexus fam literally lit up the showroom floor last week.
Although the CT200h hybrid was highlighted at the 2011
North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January, it
needed a night of its own, on its own turf, to really shine. Auto
fans and experts alike attended and took part in close-up
views and info on the displayed cars, giveaways and some
pretty great food, courtesy of Edwards Café and Caterer of
Northville.
As the fifth addition to Lexus’ hybrid lineup, the CT200h may
be the least expensive of the brand yet — at less than
$30,000. Priced for about $1,000 more than a hybrid on the
non-luxury category, it nevertheless provides the same safety
standards and elegance as that of previous Lexus hybrids.
The 2011 CT200h, which is categorized as a luxury hybrid,
claims the highest combined fuel savings in the luxury
segment — with 43 miles to the gallon in the city. What that
also equals in eco impact is 60 percent fewer emissions in
smog than retained by the average car.
Stressing the limited number of models that will be
manufactured, Lexus officials at the Meade event happily
steered potential buyers through the extras offered in the
vehicles. Test drivers were also on hand to describe the
quality of the ride, energy savings and some of the innovative
perks — such as the change in the dashboard color when
different variations are used in the car’s power.

One extra entails the industry’s first Electronic Device Holder,
a simple console-mounted device that will be standard on
each CT. Appealing to sporty younger buyers, it is meant to
beckon their appreciation of tech products by holding most
cell phones, MP3’s and GPS devices, with close proximity to
console power and USB ports.
Producing four driving modes, Lexus ensures that the vehicle
adapts to its driver’s preferences. The EV mode produces an
ultra-quiet, electric-motor power, and Eco mode stresses fuel
economy. Normal mode offers an essentially linear throttle
response. The Sport mode entices with a spectrum of
goodies: a change in steering feel and accelerator response,
battery voltage output to 650V, traction-control response, and
an instrument panel color change from blue to red as the
hybrid meter turns into a tachometer.
Attendees munched on the unmatched yummies from
Edwards while learning about the standard features available
on the CT200h:
● Push-button start
● Touch sensors on exterior front door handles
● Leather-wrapped steering wheel
● Six-speaker audio system with a CD player
● Safety Connect
● Bluetooth streaming audio
● XM satellite radio
● USB connector for iPod and MP3 players
● Power lumbar seat support
Exemplary items on the dessert display included fresh
raspberries, blueberries and strawberries atop “Sugar
Shooters” or creamy flavored mousses, and slivered soft
pretzels with cheesy dipping sauce. The Edwards’
professionals were on hand to refill the tempting, spicy
skewers of sausage cooked with honey mustard; sliced
lavash-wrapped meaty sandwiches; artfully-layered cups of
colorful Mexican dip; sliced fresh cucumbers called Boursin
Bites, adorned with the creamy cheese; and a tasty
assortment of imported cheeses and crackers.
Available for a variety of events, including some inventive
dishes served on-site, Edwards is a favorite spot for
corporate catering for good reason. An entire good menu of
reasons, in fact!
And while they are sharing their luxurious goodies with the
public, the Meade Group — which consists of Meade Lexus of
Lakeside and Meade Lexus of Southfield — is kind to charity,
too. Among the top-selling Midwest dealers, Meade also
sponsors St. John Hospital’s Meade Pediatric Hematology
Oncology Center, among other metropolitan programs. The
dealerships provide parts and service, as well as new and
used Michigan Lexuses, and are available to clients from Port
Huron to Detroit and Lake St. Clair to the far reaches of
Oakland County.
The CT200h colors carried by the Lakeside location span
from black and silver to Matador Red and the talk of the
evening, Daybreak Yellow. Under the NAIAS lights, it
appeared bright and sporty; the evening’s event appeared to
be a muted deviled egg — with a glazed finish.
