As conclude my term as President. I must take this opportunity to thank all of you wh o se contributions over the p a s t y e ar ha v e b e en so essential t o the success o f t he Chapter's prog r ams aud activit i es. I n doing so, I am sure I will omit s ome who deserve recognition and for that I apologize.

I'm obviously most indebted to the o ther officers who, with me, deserve the credit (or the blame) for the s u ccess of the last year. Bob, Maura, Joel and Geneva could not have been more helpful.

The retirement of Esther Munce req uired that the Chapter's Program Cha i r take on more responsibility than ever before. Ed Kronk and his s ec retary, Kathy Grochowski, stepped in without missing a beat and the suc cess of the luncheon meetings is di rectly attributable to their effor t s .

The Chapter launched two new Secti ons d uring the year and their Ch a i r s were instrumental in getting t hem off t o a good start. Thanks to Chris Do whan and Thea Sankiewicz for all of thei r hard work.

Th e r ema i ning Section Chairs were la rgely r esponsible for the Chapters cont inui n g legal education . Each Se ct i on c onducted at least o ne seminar or recept i on duri ng t he year. Le t me join with t he rema in der o f the Chapter i n tha nking e a c h of yo u and y ou r sem i na r facul ty f or helping kee p us o n ou r toes.

The New lawyers Seminar is always the biggest CLE 4nd e rtaking of h e year and its held twice. Geneva, Chris, Brian Figot and Catherine Wenger have worked tirelessly on this project for a number of years. The Chapter also held Its Sevrnth TrIal Advocacy Workshop during the year - - as usual, UnIted States Magistrate Steven Pepe deservp~ substantial credit. Thanks also to the Steering Committee, Joel ~here. Joe Papellan, Tom :ranmer,

Jay Brandt and John participating Judges, and faculty.

The Ch apter 's Pr o Bono Comm ittee headed by Lynn Shecter also c anno t be forgotten. I t not only rece i v ed national recogn i tion, but did no t rest on its lau rels. Lynn and Steve Pepe organ ized a day long semina r for pro bono attorneys, as well a s the Recognition Luncheon. John Mayer and his secretary, Jer ry Torolski, were also most helpful.

The Chapter newsletter was largely my responsibility. But I must thank my partner, Mark Brewer, and United States Magistrate Marcia Cooke for their contributions. Also, for her help in this and s o many other ways , I must thank Dee Osterman.

Mike LaVoie has continued to do his masterful job as Membership Chair. I must also thank Gi l lian Steinh8" r Mimi Gendreau and Jack Kalmink, ~

at my request took on the thankless tasks of organizing the Annual Holiday Party, Dinner Dance and Gol f Outing, respectively. Each was a memorable occasion.

Finally, I must e xpress my apprec i ation to the Chapter's Execu tive Board, many of whom contributed in so many other ways. In the fi na l analys i s, it is t he Executive Boa rd o n whom t he s ucc ess of the Chap t e r's l uncheons , e duca ti ona l programs and social a c ti v ities so l argel y d epends . They have my u n dy ing grat it ude . Th ank you all.
