Detector R & D plan
• Detector Development plan
• Detector Simulations
• Conclusion
21.07.06 SINP/VECC Meeting High Energy Physics Group, BHU
What do we want?
• Fast (ns range)
• High localization accuracy
• Larger area
• High rate capability
• Operation in magnetic field
• Long life time
• Low cost

ALICE/HMPID concept of CsI RICH
- liquid C6 F14 radiator- proximity focussing geometry- small gap MWPC (~2 mm)
- cathode pads coated with CsI
NA44 / TIC @ CERN (0.3 m2) finished
STAR / RICH @ BNL (1 m2) running
PHENIX / HBD @ BNL (0.7 m2) running
HADES / RICH @ GSI (1.5 m2) running
ALICE / HMPID @ CERN (11m2) in preparation
COMPASS / RICH1 @ CERN (5.8 m2) runningExperiments with CsI RICH
(active area m2)
MWPC
front-end electronics
pad cathode covered with CsI film
PHENIX HBD Concept @ BNL
-CsI coated directly on GEM-CF4 gas as radiator -Reverse drift field (Hadron blind)-Proximity focussing geometry (leptons produce a blob of 35 photons in about 10 cm2)
GEM Simulations
• MAXWELL to produce a 2D and/or 3D field mapping
• MAGBOLTZ to produce gaseous data
• GARFIELD to see the detector response

Conclusion
• Micropattern detector could be the best possible choice for Muon chamber as well as for RICH of CBM Experiment.
