Due to Tourism Laws in some of the countrieswe visit, there may be a truck and crew changeduring the trip.

Travelling in 2016?If travelling in 2016 your itinerary will beslightly different and will include a 2 nightbush excursion into the Okavango Delta. Tentswill be brought in and there are no ablutionfacilities. You will also be visiting Divundu inlieu of Windhoek and Ghanzi in Namibia. Pleasecontact us for full Trip Notes of your tour.

Who's on tour?People from all over decide that the back tobasics and close-up approach to viewing Africais for them – from Canada to New Zealand toSingapore and the UK. Generally people are30-50yrs, easy going and happy to participate. They have a love of camping and as some daysare long, don’t mind a drive. Whilst the truck ispurpose built and ideal for this style of safari, for those who require more comfort we suggestyou opt for one of our lodge safaris.

Things To Bring• A sleeping bag• For extra comfort, bring a travel pillow• Spare camera batteries/film and dustbag• Mosquito spray (with active DEET ingredient)• Your own personal first aid kit• A torch• A small daypack for your day-to-day needs.• Antibacterial wipes• A photocopy of your passport data pages• Your Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate• Your travel insurance policy details• Hat, sunglasses & sunscreen• Warm clothing - raincoat, warm hat, socks etc

as across Africa wet/dry and hot/cool climaticperiods change invariably.

BudgetingAfrica is not as cheap as many people believeand we recommend that you budget betweenUS $30-35 per day for expenses such as drinks, snacks and curios. Budget more if you plan onbuying a lot of souvenirs and budget for youroptional excursions and visas separately.

Transport on TourOur overland vehicles are custom builtconverted Mercedes Benz or MAN trucks thathave seatingspace for our passengers and a storage areas forluggage and all trip equipment. The trucks seatbetween 27-30 passengers on our campingtrips. Most seats are forward facing, thoughsome models have a combination of forward, backward and some inward facing seats withtables. Vehicles have sliding glass windows, andthe seating area is raised providing a greatadvantage for game viewing and photography.Seats are cushioned and there is storage spacefor personal items like cameras, snacks and daypacks in the seating area.

Meals on TourMeals and menus vary as food is purchased en-route, and is subject to produce that is availableseasonally in the areas we travel through. Aswe support the local communities along theway, fresh produce is mostly purchased directfrom the producer or local grower and thereforehas an organic appearance. Our safari cooks areable to offer a wide variety of menus with theingredients available, even if the produce onoffer is not of the same selection as what youmay be used to back home. The breakfast spreadconsists of bread (toast when time allows),spreads and cereals with a hot breakfast everyfew days. Lunches are mostly prepared en-routewith a supply of ‘build your own’ sandwichingredients available. Dinners are cooked in theevenings on arrival at the campsite. A wide arrayof dinner menus are on offer during your safari, consisting of curries, stews, pastas, BBQs andeven roasts!

Participation on TourAll of our overland safaris are participation tripsmeaning that all passengers are expected tohelp out around camp. The crew membersrunning the trip will set up a rota system that willbe followed. One day you may be on cleaningduty, the next day you may be on cooking dutyand so forth. This is not only to make the tripeasier for all involved but also for you as thepassengers to get to know one another while ontrip.

Zimbabwe is essentially a cash-only society nowwith ATMs pretty useless for the foreigner andcredit cards only used in a handful of places. We recommend bringing enough cash to coveryour stay in Zimbabwe (in either USD or ZAR)especially in the smaller denominations (US$1-20 and ZAR10 - 200) as there is always ashortage of change and shopkeepers will oftenrefuse larger bills. Please also be aware it isillegal to leave Zimbabwe with over $1000 (orequivalent) in cash.

Zimbabwe introduced Bond Notes intocirculation on 28 November 2017 which willbe used alongside the US dollar and othercurrencies. These Bond Notes will be at a 1:1parity with the US dollar. However, they are onlylegal tender within Zimbabwe and as such canonly be used there. These Bond notes will be in$2 and $5 denominations and there will also bea new $1 Bond coin.

Major foreigncurrencies can be exchanged at bureaux dechange and banks at the official exchangerate. Please also be aware it is illegal to leaveZimbabwe with over $1000 (or equivalent). Asof June 2016 it is becoming increasingly difficultto withdraw money from ATMs in Zimbabwe. There is a cash limit of $500 per day - however alot of banks are not replenishing the ATMs. It isstrongly advised that you bring enough moneywith you before you enter Zimbabwe and don'trely on getting any whilst there.

Travellers cheques are accepted at banks, theseshould be in US Dollars or Pound Sterlingto avoid additional exchange rate charges. Most banks will want to see your passportand proof of purchase receipt before cashingyour travellers cheques. Please Note: Travellerscheques can be difficult to cash so do not relyupon them as your sole source of funds.

Zimbabwe has a rainy season from November/December to March, during this time daysare hot and sunny with possible afternoonthunderstorms. By April and May most ofthe rain is gone, skies are clear anddays are sunny and warm.
