KLIMS 2018 CNY MEDIA APPRECIATION EVENT

Despite some new faces, the MAA Council Members remained unchanged.

An event was specially organised by the MAA on 27th February 2018 for the esteemed members of the media. The MAA values the collaboration and support from the media as it embarks on another journey to present Kuala Lumpur’s greatest motor show. A total of 41 media representatives from 20 media titles attended the event.

The Malaysian Total industry Volume (TiV) for first quarter of 2018 recorded a marginal drop of 4% or 5,700 units to 135,140 units. Despite an impressive increase of 28.5% (3,819 units) in the 4x4/sUV segment, the Passenger Vehicle

sector dropped 5% or 6,437 units in Q1 of 2018 compared to the same period last year.

however, the Malaysian Total industry Pro-duction (TiP) saw an increase of 13.2% or 18,199 units in Q1 of 2018 compared to the

Cycle & Carriage Bintang Berhad announced on 4th January 2018 that it has the larg-est network for certified body and paint collision repair facilities in Malaysia fol-

lowing Daimler AG’s certification of the Cycle & Carriage Johor Bahru, Bukit Tengah and Batu Caves facilities as official Mercedes-Benz Body and Paint Centres.

HOnDA Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. announced on 9th January 2018 it recorded total sales of 109,511 units, the highest in the history of the company since it was established in 2003. This was also the first time that Honda Malaysia achieved sales of more than 100,000 units. Honda Malaysia announced on 6th February 2018 its strategic business direction for 2018 and is optimistic to reach 109,000 sales units, a market share of 18% againstthe projected 2018 Total Industry Volume (TIV) of 600,000 units.

Honda Malaysia Md and CEo, Mr. Toichi Ishiyama said, “according to our internal survey, our Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) score has increased by 23 points compared to the previous year. To further provide more Joy, we will significantly enhance this area in 2018. as customer satisfaction is Honda’s no.1 priority, this year we are focusing on the three main areas of dealer expansion and customer experience, skilled associates at dealers, and customer’s virtual touchpoint. Towards this end, customer satisfaction will be the main emphasis in 2018. The total investment to enhance Honda’s operation and after-sales is estimated at RM31 million.” Seven more dealerships, ranging from 3S and 2S Centres to standalone Body and Paint Centres, will be opened by the end of 2018 in addition to current dealerships being upgraded. Express dealers with fast service within 1.5 hours instead of two will also be implemented. Honda Malaysia is also in the midst of implementing the new Corporate Identity (C.I) at the dealers. n

PErODuA is aiming for sales of 209,000 vehi-cles for 2018 – a 2% jump from the 204,900 ve-hicles registered in 2017.

“The momentum carried by the Bezza in the earlier part of 2017 and the continued de-mand for our other models have helped make us the top-selling carmaker in Malaysia for the 12th year running,” said Perodua President and CEO YBhg. Datuk (Dr) Aminar rashid Salleh on 19th January 2018. “Based on our internal calculations, we expect the total industry vol-ume to increase to 590,000 units in 2018, which would see our market share sustained at slightly above 35%,” he added.

YBhg. Datuk (Dr) Aminar said that the increase in demand this year will also have a positive impact on vehicle production with an estimated 215,334 units to be produced at both its manufacturing facilities this year compared with 200,146 units produced in 2017. Perodua

has two vehicle manufacturing companies. Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd produces the new Myvi and the Alza, while Perodua Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd manufactures the Axia and Bezza.

Perodua’s service intake growth has been positive in 2017, with the national car company expecting its service intakes to grow by 1.9%

MORE DEALERS JOIN IN THE UPGRADE EXERCISE

ISuzu Malaysia announced on 9th February 2018 that it topped Malaysia’s 2017 commercial vehicle market for four consecutive years.

Although faced with market uncertainties and price increase due to the depreciating ring-git, Isuzu Malaysia managed to not only retain their spot as CV no. 1, but also managed to cap-ture a 13% share in the pick-up segment, in ad-dition to 20% sales increase in after-sales parts. Despite a slight decline in Total Industry Vol-ume (TIV), Isuzu Malaysia managed to improve its market share in the CV segment to 37.1%, as

compared to 2016’s share of 36.3%.In his new Year’s address, CEO of Isuzu Ma-

laysia Sdn. Bhd., Mr. Koji nakamura, expressed his delight over Isuzu’s ability to stand firm as a company and perform well despite the various economic hurdles faced in 2017. He attributed the company’s remarkable achievement in 2017 to the unyielding support and services provided by Isuzu Malaysia’s skilled staffs and dealers, in maintaining good relationship with customers, aside from the outstanding quality and reliabil-ity that Isuzu trucks had to offer. n

Honda experienced, Honda Malaysia MD and CEO, Mr. Toichi Ishiyama said, “The year 2017 truly was remarkable for Honda Ma-laysia. At the beginning of 2017, we challenged ourselves with a sales target of 100,000 units and

in March 2017, we achieved a historical milestone with the 600,000th unit (CKD) production within the span of 14 years since Honda Malaysia started in 2003. At the end of 2017, based on internal data our mar-ket share was at 19%, an increase of 3.2 points from 2016. For the first time ever, we surpassed the 100,000 units sales achievement within a calendar year. We continue to maintain our no. 1 position for non-national segment and no. 2 position in overall TIV of the automotive industry.” n

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) delivered the first 50 units of the all-new Toyota C-HR compact crossover to its customers at an event held at the Technology Park Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur on 22nd March 2018. also present at the ceremony was the Chief Engineer of the Toyota C-HR, Mr. Takatomo Suzuki.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor said, the delivery to the first 50 customers in Malaysia also mark the official introduction of the all new Toyota C-HR. “Since being previewed last year, interest in the Toyota C-HR has been high. To date, we have received around 1,500 bookings for the model and because this is a unique model, we wanted to personally handover the vehicle to our first 50 customers,” he said. n

Management for its trucks sold in Malaysia effective 15th March 2018.

The 3-year warranty comprises of 1-year full warranty and 2-year extended warranty on driveline only. The previous offer had only 1 year of full warranty. Together with this new enhanced warranty, Scania has also in-creased its offering of free Scania Assistance from 2 years to 3 years and continues to offer the 10 years of free Scania Fleet Management.

Isuzu Malaysia delivered on 9th February 2018 two units of the Isuzu GIGA FXZ360 (Cement Mixer Truck) to Hamzah Ibir Sdn. Bhd., a Terengganu-based construction company. The units were procured from Dynamic Motors Sdn. Bhd., an Isuzu dealer located in Kuantan, Pahang. Volvo Trucks Malaysia launched on 4th January 2018 another impor-tant road safety programme called See and Be Seen which focuses on awareness in traffic for cyclists,

through activities that demonstrate how to im-prove safety in the interaction between them and truck drivers.

The programme was launched and in-troduced to a gathering of around 800 active scouts from schools in all over Malaysia who had attended a scouting skills competition and campfire held at Hin Hua High School in Klang, as part of its 70th year anniversary activities. Around 15 students and lecturers from INTI College, a volunteering partner of Volvo Malay-sia’s corporate social responsibility projects also attended the event.

PETRONAS hosted on 2nd March 2018 its annual Fleet Management Drive (FM Drive) 2018 competition for road tanker drivers and haulier organisations in advancing a safety culture in its fleet operation. This round was held at Shaziman Transport Sdn. Bhd. in Pasir Gudang, Johor. Scania and Volvo Trucks Malaysia supported the event by participating as exhibitors showcasing their latest products, campaigns and services.

Abu Bakar winning in the overall category, MYR 3,000 cash and a certificate in the annual tanker driving competition. n

PErODUA representatives visited Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital on 27th February 2018 to bring Chinese New Year cheer to over 70 patients in the form of hampers, angpows, mandarin or-anges and other gifts.

Perodua also went to Selayang Hospital the following Friday, donating three ambu bags (handheld device to assist those with breathing difficulties) worth rM600 each to the hospital

and distributing hampers to 60 paediatric ward patients.

The company has also committed to a sustainable charity 3-year programme with Se-layang Hospital’s paediatric ward with lots of activities like story-telling, puppet and clown performances, colouring and sing-alongs. n

BADMINTON TALENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

PERODUA and the Malaysian Ministry of Education have jointly launched on 26th February 2018 the Badminton Talent Development Programme, a five-year nationwide human capital development programme involving schools that aims to find and nurture future badminton talents.

“The Badminton Talent Development Programme will train and develop schoolchildren aged 9 to 11 in the sport, with the aim of cultivating the next generation of Malaysian shuttlers,” said Minister of Education YB Dato’ Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

“We are proud to be supporting the Ministry of Education on this positive initiative. We believe such a programme will give rise to a generation that is more all-rounded,” said PERODUA President and CEO YBhg. Datuk (Dr.) Aminar Rashid Salleh.

The Ministry of Education’s Sports Division will take lead on the overall monitoring, coordination, execution and evaluation of the programme, while PERODUA will bear all costs of the programme, inclusive of the development of the modules, sports equipment, allowances and training for the coaches, as well as the tournaments at district, state and national level. PERODUA is also loaning two Alza units to the Ministry of Education’s Sports Division for their use throughout the programme’s duration. n

On the 6th and 7th of February 2018, Scania and Volvo Trucks shared how they lead the shift towards sustainable transportation at the recent Sweden-Southeast Asia Business Summit (SSEABS) held in Kuala Lumpur.

Scania was one of the main sponsors of SSEABS with Sustainability as a theme. Hosted by H.E. Mr. Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia and the presence of YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa bin Mohamed, Minister for International Trade and Industry and Mr. Mikael Damberg, Minister for Enterprise and Innovation, Sweden, the SSEABS was organised by the Embassy of Sweden in cooperation with Business Sweden.

Mr. Erik Ljungberg, Senior Vice President and Head of Corporate Relations, Scania groip was a panel speaker in a discussion on “Creating a Sustainability Mindset.” Scania also led two Industry Talk Day sessions in Day Two under the theme of “A Sustainable Mindset – Key Driver for Future Growth.” The topics of “Future City Transport

Solutions” and “Circular Economy – Waste to Wealth” was graced with guest speakers Mr. Alexander Mastrovito, Head of Sustainable Transport Solutions, Scania Asia & Oceania and Mr. David Lantz, Sustainability Manager, Scania Southeast Asia.

Also participating in the event was Volvo Malaysia. Mr. Hayder Wokil, Director of Mobility & Automation, Volvo Trucks was in Kuala Lumpur for the first time to attend and present Volvo Trucks’ vision on Sustainable Mobility by Electrification, Autonomous Drive and Connectivity at the summit. This Industry Talk session was well-received by the audience, especially when he expounded on how Volvo’s innovative transportation technology can help to address the global challenge on congestions, pollutions and growing population and enhance the future of urban transportation. The adoption of the technology in local market will largely depend on regulation, infrastructure and consumer attitudes.

There were more than 600 Swedish companies established in Southeast Asia ranging from service to manufacturing and retail. The Sweden-Southeast Asia Business Summit (SSEABS) serves as a good platform for collaboration among industry players and best practices sharing on conducting business. n
