While regions such as South-East Asia and Brazil are leading the charge for science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) invention around the world, younger generations in Australia and the US are choosing alternate careers because they say they are ill-prepared. Students have indicated they are not choosing careers in these fields because of the lack of attention innovation is given in schools. This is counterintuitive to the amount of investment going into innovation in these sectors in Australia but may suggest that the best candidates are not the ones attracted into these jobs.
