MELBOURNE LANEWAYSST KILDA
Located only 6km from the city
centre, St.Kilda is Melbourne’s
seaside suburb. Safe sandy
beaches with palm-lined
boardwalks, there are plenty of
cafes and bars, magnificent old
buildings and a colourful past.
Visitor attractions include Luna
Park, St. Kilda beach, live music
venues and several of Melbourne’s
big events and festivals.
Famous for its laneways,
Melbourne has a host of
laneways and arcades.
Great pop-up shops and
fashion stores are nestled beside
little bars and cosy cafes. Each
arcade has its own charm and
character. Visit the Block arcade
for 19th century architecture, the
Royal Arcade for quaint shops
and the famous Gaunt’s clock.
Street Art Capital
Melbourne is known
internationally as one of
the world’s great street art
capitals. Outdoor approved
locations show cool and hip
expressions of art throughout
the city. Join an approved
tour or do it yourself to
get the full impact of this
modern art phenomenon.
myki ticketing
myki is Melbourne’s public transport ticketing system, and uses myki cards – reusable smartcards that store credit – for travel on all metropolitan (and selected regional) train, tram and bus services.
You can purchase and top up myki cards at:
• any retailer where you see the myki sign.
• PTV Hubs located in the city centre
• myki machines at all train stations and selected accessible tram stops and bus interchanges.
GETTING AROUND
Trams
Services operate daily until midnight with extended hours to 1am on Friday and Saturday nights. Tram route numbers and destinations are displayed at the front of each tram and timetables are available at tram stops.
Free City Circle Tram
These historic W-Class trams (Route 35) travel a circular route around the perimeter of the city centre passing many major attractions, and linking to other tram, train and bus routes across Melbourne.
Free Tram Zone
The new Free Tram Zone makes Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD) and Docklands accessible to all. You don’t even need a myki card! Remember the free zone only applies to trams, not trains or buses.
For exact boundaries of the free tram zone, check out maps at tram stops.
Melbourne Visitor Shuttle
Board the bus at any one of the 13 stops at key city destinations. These shuttle services run between 9.30am and 4.30pm daily. A round trip takes approximately 90 minutes and includes on-board commentary. A daily pass on the shuttle costs $5. Children under the age of 10 travel free. For more information visit meboourne.vic.gov.au/shuttle.
Walking & Cycling
Follow a heritage walking trail through the city streets, cycle along the Maribyrnong and Yarra Rivers. Use the bike path along the foreshore from St. Kilda or experience the cultural and architectural elegance of Albert Park, South Melbourne and Toorak.
