WHO – ideal prospectWhat to they do?What do they like to watch, read, buy, wear......How much free time do they have?Where do they shop?Do they have kids at school?Do they play sport?
THINK like your prospect, put yourself into their shoes for a minute, get a feel for who they are and what they are about.
What would make them STOP and READ your leaflet?

WHY – purpose
What are you making them for? • Event• Special offer• Brand awareness• New product• New market
There must be a purpose otherwise your readers will not know what it is about and what they are supposed to do with it. Consequently, they end up in the bin.

Are they for an event, exhibition or timely offer?• Make sure that you have the printer primed to receive your PDF on a certain date so that they can fulfil the print run in good time• Minimum promotional time is a good 6 weeks before the event.
Remember to ask your printer how long they take from signed off proof to the finished article. All printers are different, there is no hard and fast rule.
Remember to proof your print beforehand, any mistakes are down to you, even if it’s the printers mistake, they are not going to tell you, because they probably haven’t spotted it themselves, you will have to spot it yourself. It’s better to see if before you get 1000 printed!
Remember to ask for a print ready proof and make sure you sign it off in writing before you go to print. This should alleviate any colour of sizing issues.

The most important thing you can put on a leaflet is your
CALL TO ACTION
What do you want the person reading it to do next? • Do they phone you? • Do they email you?• Do they sign up to a newsletter?• Do they come along to your open day / event?
They need to know, otherwise they won’t do anything and confusion will reign.
REMEMBER to put your contact details on it!RMEMBER to double check your phone number / email address is correct!
WHAT - action

How many do you need? Are you going to benefit from a professional looking leaflet or will a home printed one do as you only need a few?
Going to a printer:• Get 3 quotes minimum• Find out paper thicknesses and get them to send you samples so you can choose what will be best for you. Also think about the size! • Make sure you can send them print ready PDFs, or get a quote for them to do the artwork for you, or a quote from a marketing professional to do the artwork.
A print ready PDF is:• All pictures are in CMYK at 300dpi• All text is embedded and in CMYK• There is 3mm of ‘bleed’ all around the edge, if you want colour to go right to the edges.

“Emma Thorpe has recently helped me to implement the marketing on a number of our projects which needed flyers and leaflets produced very quickly for an exhibition. I have to say that with the deadline I'd given, I was prepared to accept a lower quality. However, that's not what I got! Looking back I realise that Emma would never agree to produce anything other than a 100% fantastic piece of work and that's precisely what I got. If you want your marketing implemented by a true professional then for goodness sake contact Emma Thorpe of Munro 3000” Sian Murphy, The Ruby Marketers
“Working with Emma Thorpe has been a really good experience for me. Emma has a thorough knowledge of her subject and is always willing to refer to others for further information and guidance should she require it. This broadens the support she can offer. Working with her has given me the skills to market my business online more effectively and confidently and the support she has given with the production of new leaflets for my business has been excellent. Many thanks, Jos.” Jocelynnet Crafts
