tomer service aspect of his work. Ron is involved in the fine arts, whether painting or drawing, whether on the job or in the community.He’s a member of Mary, Help of Christians Church.

Ron Barnett, Bindery Supervisor. Ron has been with UDP&D for more than 28 years.

John Beale, Press Operator.

Bob Frost, Production Manager. Bob, who joined the UDP&D staff in 1995, currently supervises the offset print-ing operation and schedules the orders that go through the printing and bindery process. Bob is familiar with both PC and MAC platforms, as well as the Acuset Image Setter, and has the ability to operate all equipment in the pressroom and bindery. He started his career at UD as an entry level press operator, and advanced to being in charge of the pressroom and bindery. When out of the office, he spends time traveling with his kids, enjoying all things Disney, and helping his wife with her sticker and sign business. Bob does volunteer work for the community pool and park.

Brother Bob Hughes, S.M., Graphic Designer. Brother Bob joined the UDP&D staff in 2001, and uses the I-Mac system to design brochures, fliers, booklets, signs, and banners. He is active in the Marianist community, and has worked to distribute food at St. Vincent DePaul—a local shelter for homeless people. Brother Bob is involved in the Church with Marianist prayer groups, and does Vocation work for the Marianists. His interests include reading, following politics, painting and drawing.

Bernadine Lee, Data Entry/Receptionist. Bernadine has been with the department for almost nine years. She prepares and mails billing invoices to departments for completed job orders, and maintains the files. She greets customers with her friendly smile, and helps them find the right person to expedite their jobs. Bernadine enjoys her family and many friends, all sports (especially basketball), playing cards and reading. She also works as an usher for

Since many of you haven’t had a chance to meet us in person, we thought you might enjoy getting to know the people behind the scenes who work on your projects.

Allow us to introduce ourselves with the following bios, listed alphabetically by department.

UD Printing & DesignBarry Leiter, Manager. Barry manages the budgetary and business aspects of UD Printing & Design (UDP&D). Since the beginning of his career at UD in December 1996, he has spearheaded many changes and improve-ments in the department including the establishment of the Campus Copy Center in 1997, the move to the College Park Center in 2006 and the new “green” effort in 2008. When asked what equipment he uses to do his job, he responded, “A computer and a ballpoint pen.” Barry likes hot rods, cooking and home projects. He has coached various sports for the Youth Athletic League, is a Cox Arboretum volunteer and enjoys trail maintenance and clean-up.

Doug Stone, Assistant Manager and Design Supervisor. Doug has been with UDP&D for nine years. He manages the Design department, assigns projects, and assists with the day-to-day operation of UDP&D. He has contributed to the success of high profile projects such as The Dayton Peace Accords. He assists customers with special on- and off-campus projects, and currently served on the Chapel Renovation Advisory Board. Doug is actively involved in the community and is a Past Board Member of the Alter Booster Association and Past President of the Alter Football Association. In his spare time, he enjoys college basketball and football, professional football and high school sports at Alter High School. Doug is married to Peg Doudican Stone whose father, Charles, graduated from UD Prep ’28 and UD ’32. They have two kids, Kelly, a junior, and Kyle, a freshman.

Ron Acklin, Illustrator. Ron, who has been with UDP&D for approximately 20 years, is a talented illustrator and is constantly busy, as his work is in demand on and off campus. He’s proficient with the Adobe CS3 Suite, and MAC and PC computer platforms. Ron enjoys the cus-

the Dragons—“I love 5/3rd Field,” she said. Bernadine is also highly involved in volunteer activities with various church organizations and HOSPICE of Dayton, as well as ushering at the Schuster Center and Victoria Theatre.

Paul Lemming, Billing. Paul has worked in several capacities at UDP&D, both in the mailing and press areas as well as in billing. He has been a trusted staff member for 31 years.

Patti Miller, Press Operator. Patti has worked at UDP&D for nine years, operating the A.B. Dick 9810 and the A.B. Dick 9985 two-color presses. Patti is professional in her work, and prints an astounding number of jobs including newsletters, brochures, programs, postcards, invitations, letterhead, envelopes and business cards. She contributed excellent ideas while serving on the Department of Admin-istration and Finance’s Christmas Party Committee. Patti is a caring person, and does volunteer work for A Special Wish Foundation. She enjoys gardening and participating in Fish Bass Tournaments.

Tim Span, Graphic Artist. Tim has been with the Univer-sity for 36 years. He enjoyed working at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) for many of those years, and now enjoys working at UDP&D. Tim works diligently to complete a large volume of work, and his engraving skills are an asset to the department. Tim likes to socialize with friends and attend UD events.

Sue Whigham, Graphic Designer. Sue joined the UDP&D staff in 1981, retired in January 2008, and continues to work part-time for the department. Sue’s contributions include typography and design of University publications such as the class schedules, Commencement programs, newsletters, academic inserts, as well as writing the Ink and Toner newsletter. One highlight of her career was serving on the campus-wide Diversity Committee. Sue is the Hispanic Ministry Coordinator at St. Paul Church in East Dayton where she oversees the English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL) program offered in conjunction with the Miami Valley Literacy Council, teaches a Span-ish class, and assists in the emergency food pantry. Sue’s wonderful husband, Bob, is a Realtor®, and they have three children and four grandchildren. Sue enjoys chess, cooking, creative writing, crochet, crossword puzzles and reading.

UD Mailing ServicesDenise Dobberstein, Postal Operations Manager. Looking at Denise, one would never guess she’s been employed with the University for more than 32 years. Denise is friendly with customers, and she is the confi-dante of many of her colleagues. During her tenure at UD, she has held several positions such as working in the Bookstore for 16 years in five different capacities, ending with Assistant Manager; five years in Purchasing in charge of the cost-per-copy program; and her current position with UD Mailing Services where she has been for the past 11 years. Denise is responsible for processing all incoming and outgoing mail for the University, and is knowledgeable of postal regulations and equipment including the Bell &

Howell Six-Station Inserter, Bryce 13K Addresser, and the Astro 8000 Wafer Sealing Machine. Denise is ac-tively involved in planning the meetings and serving as Treasurer of the Dayton Miami Valley Postal Customer Council. Her son, Ryan, is fortunate to have such a dedi-cated mother who supports his activities as well as those of her extended family. In her free time, Denise enjoys “garage sale-ing” and scrapbooking.

Tom Seifert, Manager, Campus Post Office and Mail Room. Tom is proficient with the Hasler Mailing Ma-chine Model WJ250, and he oversees the operation of the Campus Post Office and mailroom, to ensure that all incoming and outgoing mail is processed and delivered in a timely manner. He has received the Silver Jubilar-ian Award for 25 years of service, and has worked for the same department for nearly 39 years. In his spare time, Tom enjoys college basketball—he’s a Flyer fan—horse racing, and walking.

Linda Brewer, Postal Customer Service Representative. Linda is well-known by the University community for her helpfulness at the Campus Post Office service counter over the past sixteen years. Her duties include sending letters and packages to and from UD and the surround-ing areas, selling postal supplies, money orders, stamps — and advice-giving. “The highlight of my career at UD has been the co-workers and friends who have been with me through good times and bad. I thank them for that,” Linda said. Linda and her husband enjoy walking their dog, Romeo; going to flea markets, garage sales and outlet stores; taking long hikes and bicycling trips; and building new things for their house. Two years ago they manually dug a pond in their back yard, and this year they plan to make it bigger. The fish they raise are now about five inches long. Linda loves spending time with her eleven grandchildren, and expects there will be more grandchildren to come. Linda lives in a close-knit neighborhood and often helps her neighbors. They help her as well.

Dan Gray, Postal Courier Clerk. Dan joined the Campus Post Office staff in 2006. His duties include sorting and delivering mail to various departments on and off campus and to the residence halls; operating the metering machine; and helping to develop one of the “coolest Web sites at UD—http://campus.udayton.edu/~udpostoffice. You should visit it often!” His interests include Day Trading Stocks, filming sporting events for Tippecanoe High School, eating chocolate and drinking coffee. Dan served three years as a volunteer at the Dayton Air Show for the Wright B Flyer Exhibit.

Amon Williams, Operations Technician. Amon has been with the Campus Post Office since January 2000. He’s in charge of student staffing, route management, and mail processing of incoming and outgoing mail, and is proficient with the department’s mailing equip-ment. In addition to his full-time job, Amon is working part-time on a bachelor’s degree, majoring in general studies and minoring in psychology. Amon is a fam-ily man, and enjoys spending time with his wife, Carri, and his children, Andrew, Avery, Aubrey, Addision and Amon III.

Campus Copy CenterLouie Brim, Campus Copy Center Supervisor. Louie has worked at UD “for many wonderful years.” She currently supervises the Campus Copy Center in Kennedy Union serving students, faculty and staff with printed projects. The Campus Copy Center offers copy services in color and black-and-white to the UD commu-nity. It carries a variety of paper for pick-up, and offers binding and laminating services as well as discounted invitations for weddings and special events. Louie has a great husband and two dogs at home, a son in Chicago, and a daughter in Washington, D.C. She is thankful for the times they can be together on holidays and other special occasions.

Tommy Kettlehake, Digital Imaging Specialist. Tommy works in the Campus Copy Center and has been em-ployed at UD for six years. He performs high speed digi-tal printing, scanning, and document management for UD faculty, staff, and the student body. Tommy is also a part-time student at UD, and is working on a bachelor’s degree in communications/electronic media. On week-ends, he works as a Facility Coordinator at the Vandalia Recreation Center. Tommy enjoys playing guitar and col-lecting soda memorabilia. He is a member of Christian Life Center Church in Vandalia, Ohio.
