Welcome to the Design & Lifestyle Hotels
Ms Morrongiello, what is the design concept behind the Eastwest Hôtel? Furniture, artwork, decorative elements and books were carefully selected to make this hotel feel like a home.
Luxury with a twist
Anne-Marie Morrongiello Owner of the
Eastwest Hôtel, Geneva
What guests are you hoping to reach? Discerning travellers and urban nomads looking for understated luxury in a relaxing environment.
And how exactly is this reflected? Our rooms are luxurious pods, while the lounge, library and meeting room offer an inspiring setting for guests to meet, work or simply relax. And our terrace is a true oasis in the heart of the city.
High standards in creativity, clear design forms and top-quality materials – the Design & Life-style Hotels are renowned for their inspiring architecture. For guests who enjoy good style, a stay in one of these hotels is a lifestyle experience. Just like at the Eastwest Hôtel.
The name already hints at it: this Geneva hotel offers a fascinating mix of designs from Far East and the western world. From the entrance with round windows reminiscent of the tradi-tional moon door of Chinese gardens to seats in bright colours.
Like in all the Design & Lifestyle Hotels, the carefully planned concept can be seen in every single detail of the decor – and even finds its way to the cuisine. The hotel’s seasonal dishes perfectly reflect its cosmopolitan philosophy. Contrasting tastes and flavours from across the world mirror the feeling of international travelling.
8 Design & Lifestyle Hotels.

Design meets functionality at Hotel/Restaurant Spedition in Thun. The 15 stylish rooms are decorated with 120-year-old oak beams, which were previously used for storing cheese wheels.
At the Cervo Mountain Boutique Resort in Zermatt, the smallest details make the biggest difference.Innovative architecture and contemporary
interiors are the hallmark of all Swiss Design & Lifestyle Hotels. The premises are stylish, but never at the expense of functionality. Attention to detail goes beyond just design: high-quality fare and an often unique location make each hotel an exclusive experience.

“Art makes even the impossible possible”:
Raphael Wyniger
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the guest house and cultural centre Der Teufelhof Basel unveils new art rooms. The Dieter Meier guestroom stays: its story is just as curious as the one of the Teufelhof itself.Text: Matthias Mächler Photos: Markus Bühler
A kick for the mind
A complex cultural cosmos, the listed building of the Teufelhof brings together satirical
theatre, top cuisine and a brewery. It never fails to
surprise.
35
The art rooms are redesigned every three to four years.
“The dismantling is never easy,” says hotelier Raphael Wyniger. “But
transience is part of the concept.”
36 Design & Lifestyle Hotels. The Artpiece.
A mix of “Yello”, “Ojo de Agua” and plenty of home vibes: in room no. 2, Dieter Meier pays homage to the in Basel registered office of the “association of the master of none”. He is its only member and chairman.
It all happened in a square in Düsseldorf: while “Das schiefe Theater” was playing, a devil teddy fell into the hat. This then became the mascot of the group, who would go on to establish the Teufelhof.
“What remains is the void of nothingness
which shines in the objects of gold with radical
insignificance, or not.” (Dieter Meier)
37
Conceptual artist, musician, restaurateur and intellectual jack-of-all-trades: room no. 2 is where you can get right up close to this universal genius.
20 years ago, Raphael Wyniger worked at the Teufelhof as a waiter and fell in love with a colleague. The couple are now the managing owners of the art hotel.
