DESIGN
HOME AUTOMATION USING BLUETOOH (SPEECH RECOGNITION)
ABSTRACT:
This paper describes how bluetooth can
be used in controlling various home appliances
for physically challenged and old citizens.
Human speech will play a vital role in
controlling part.
KEYWORDS :
Bluetooth, Speech recognition.
INTRODUCTION
In the near future, speech recognition will
become the method of choice for controlling
appliances, toys, tools, computers and robotics.
With the combination of Bluetooth technology
with a speech recognition system the
application can be extended to a wider scale.
BLUETOOTHHOME
AUTOMATION
BLUETOOTH
Bluetooth is a wireless technology for creating
personal networks operating in the 2.4 GHz
unlicensed band. Networks are usually formed
ad-hoc from portable devices such as cellular
phones, handheld and laptops.
Bluetooth offers higher level service profiles,
e,g, FTP like file servers, file pushing, speech
transport, serial line emulation .
Bluetooth radio basics
Normal power - 1 milli watt Receiver sensitivity - -70dB Frequency Band - 2.4 GHz(ISM)
Bluetooth supports both speech and data.
SPEECH RECOGNITION
Speech recognition systems have another
constraint concerning the style of speech they
can recognize. They are three styles of speech:
isolated, connected and continuous.
Isolated speech recognition systems can just
handle words that are spoken separately. This is
the most common speech recognition systems
available today. The user must pause between
each word or command spoken.
Connected is a half way point between
isolated word and continuous speech

recognition. Allows users to speak multiple
words.
Continuous is the natural conversational
speech we are use to in everyday life. It is
extremely difficult for a recognizer to shiftthrough the text as the word tend to merge together. For
instance, "Hi, how are you doing?" sounds like "Hi,.how
ya doin" Continuous speech recognition systems
are on the market and are under continual
development.
SPEECH OVER BLUETOOTH
The transmitter and receiver use an
RFCOMM channel as control channel. The
protocol of this channel is based on standard
AT commands with Bluetooth specific
extensions. An example of these extensions is
the volume control or the buttons to accept or
reject calls. For the transport of the audio
stream, the Bluetooth Synchronous
Connection Oriented
link (SCO) channel is used. The SCO channel
is a designated channel within the Bluetooth
piconet that allows the transport of 8 kHz Pulse
Coded Modulation (PCM) audio over the air
that will be encoded using Continuous Variable
Slope Delta (CVSD) modulation.
WORKING OF THE SYSTEM
Whenever the Bluetooth transmitter
receives a speech signal from the user, it
sends the received signal to its pre-paired
Bluetooth receiver. The received signal is
transferred to the processing circuitry, which
consists of
1) IC HM2007
2) 8K X 8RAM
3) 7 segment decoder
IC HM2007
HM2007 is a single chip CMOS speech
recognition circuit with speech analysis ,
recognition process and system control
functions. A isolated word count of 40 can be
recognized and stored in it with the help of
some components like microphone,
keyboard(for programming), SRAM. A
maximum of 1.92 sec of word can be

recognized. A microphone can be connected
directly to it. (In this project instead of
Microphone, Bluetooth headset is used.)
WHO WILL BENEFIT:
Everyone . Imagine, once this system is
implemented the user can switch off and on any
device without actually having to go and
operate manually. The convenience it would be
offering will greatly save time and effort for all.
To illustrate the benefits, consider a scenario
where the user is in a different room and he
realizes that the TV is still running in the
adjacent room and he is busy cooking that he
can leave it unattended. Now if he use our
system he can switch it off with a single
command of his speech but without our system
he will have to wait until he finishes his work.
And people with physical disabilities would
be greatly benefited, to person who has
problems in his limbs or legs, this would again
be a boon. Fix this to his automatic wheel chair
and to move, all he has to do is simply say a
command and he can get it moving. It would
also greatly benefit the blind, the blind person
need not actually go looking for a switch. All
he has to do isUse his speech
.
CONCLUSION.
If this home automation system gadget is
successfully developed, it will be the new trend
setter in home automation sector. It helps both
the normal and physically challenged people
and reduces the human work a bit less while in
the home.
