Our design, fashion and textile degrees combine artistic flair, creativity and teamwork in a business-like, client-focused

approach. Our academics immerse students in a fast-paced fluid industry providing them with the skills they need to

succeed in the creative industries. Our courses cover a range of creative subjects, from the complexities of the world of

fashion, to the work that goes into interior architecture and design as well as courses looking into product design and

creative innovation and textile design.

Our fashion and textiles programmes respond to current demands within the creative industries. And they reflect the strengths within the industry-focused programmes in our School of Science,

Engineering & Design.

Our facilities offer industry-standard equipment including a garment manufacture unit, digital printing, screen printing, digital knitting and embroidery, 3D printing and scanning, laser cutting

and a Mac Lab with specialist software. Our students benefit from our established expertise from programmes in marketing and advertising design, fashion writing, design, interior design,

photography, film, performance, and events production as well as professionals from the worlds of fashion, textiles, interior design and enterprise. Students are encouraged to develop

new thinking and innovative concepts influenced by the University’s expertise in enterprise, computing, health and science. Our dedicated enterprise centre Launch Pad enables students

and graduates to be mentored in their business start-ups. Students engage with industry through live projects and work experience and get the opportunity to participate in UK and

international competitions.

Fashion at Teesside University prepares students for a career in fashion design, retail, PR and brand marketing, buying, styling, trends and creative direction. Textile designs immerses

students in pattern making and design for fashion, furnishings, interiors, accessories and other decorative products including new innovative technologies such as interactive

and intelligent fabrics.

This academic year, students have developed enterprise activities including selling products at Middlesbrough, Institute of Modern Art (mima) shop. Students have engaged in work experience

at Psyche, the London PR agency and Robert Benson Fashion Photography.

Graphic design is a globally recognised subject area and profession, always changing and adapting to new developments in technology, communications and human relations. Our BA

programme at Teesside University inspires ambitious, creative individuals to explore new directions and applications for their talents.

Fundamentals of the subject are solid research, problem solving and communication skills that can be confidently applied to a broad range of tasks, be they commercial or more socially

driven. The course includes advertising, editorial design, branding, illustration, information design, interactive and UX design (includes websites, eBooks, apps, project mapping) motion

graphics and book arts.

Graphic artists and designers have access to a dedicated Mac studio, design and experimental studios, plus shared facilities including 3D printing/scanning, laser cutting, printmaking including

screen printing and etching processes, cameras, video cameras and equipment based in fashion and textiles.

I N T E R I O R D E S I G NBA (Hons) Interior Architecture and BA (Hons) Interior Design are two of the UK’s longest established spatial design courses in the country and have a rich heritage of successful

students working all around the world in professional practice working on iconic buildings for internationally renowned practices.

Congratulations to this year’s final year as they come to an end of their three-year student journey towards becoming the next generation of designers.

Along the way they have learnt how to use industry-standard CAD, produce professional creative designs, built models, written about their work, immersed themselves in design ideas and trends

and have taken part in competitions and presented to live clients at the University and in London. Our alumni are spread across the globe designing visitor attractions and museums, housing,

stadia, commercial and office design and changing the shape of the environment we live in and it’s exciting to think of how this year’s graduates will equally change our world as we wish them

every success in the future.

Product design at Teesside University has a 45-year tradition of producing highly employable product designers. As such we have designers at every level, from graduate interns to directors of design and corporate CEOs. They are working across

the globe in their respective fields, from consultancies to in-house design teams, Teesside graduates are working in the automotive sector, consumer electronics, aerospace, furniture, marine, packaging, toy design, TV and film. Companies employing Teesside graduates include Phillips, Seymour Powell, Dyson, Aston Martin, Ford, Glasdon and Portakabin to

name a few.

Product design here continues to deliver the essential skill sets of the product designer, focusing on real-world problems and delivering design solutions using a combination of traditional product design techniques in drawing and prototyping

aligned to the latest CAD software developments.

Our students have 24-hour access to their design studios and are ably supported by a full range of digital resources, workshop facilities and a dedicated team of academics and technicians. We provide real, hands-on experience using

industry standard equipment and processes including rapid prototyping, 3D scanning and multi-axis routing.

Over three years, our students have developed their understanding of form, function, ergonomics, manufacturing, usability, interaction, the environment and sustainability as well as business awareness and collaborative working.

This broad base makes Teesside University graduates excellent all-rounders suited to a diverse range of product design and marketing roles. As problem-solvers, they are well placed to enter the design industry or to act as consultant or in-house

designers to small and large scale businesses and manufacturers.

Our alignment with industry means many of this year’s cohort have already achieved recognition for their work. Successes in a number of national competitions including the IOM3 Student Starpack awards and the Design Museum Design Factory as

well as paid work placements and live projects.
