Design Autobiography

John Miller

Coffee

My first item is a coffee mug filled with coffee. I chose this object because I drink coffee everyday, much like millions of others.

Belt

The next item that I chose is my belt. I always have a belt on and there are multiple uses that my belt has including just looking good and obviously holding up my pants.

Dodge Dakota

The next object that I chose is my Dodge Dakota. This is my truck and it plays a huge role in my life. It is what gets me to and from work and my apartment to other places I need to go.

Keys

The next item that I chose is my keys. These are not just my car keys but also my apartment key and keys for everything else like the bed of my truck, my mailbox and my house in California.

Knife

The next item is another object that I have on me at all times. This is my knife. It is a very helpful tool that I actually use on a daily basis.

Galaxy Note 4

Another item that I chose is something else that I always have on me and that is my cell phone. I use this all the time to stay connected through social media and being able to text or call people when I need it.

Sunglasses

My sunglasses are yet another item that I always have on me. The only time I don’t wear them is when its rainy outside, dark or I'm inside.

Wallet

Another item that I chose was my wallet. My wallet has everything I need all in one place which is why I chose this object. I have my ID and credit cards and cash so this is probably the most important thing I carry on me every day.

Water

Another item that I chose is a water bottle. I chose this because I drink water all the time and always have water bottle on me.

American Flag

One object that means a lot to me is the American flag. I own my own that hangs in my room. This is why I chose this as my design autobiography.

Phi Gamma Delta

The next object that I chose is my badge for my fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. I chose this because the fraternity has played a huge role so far in my college career and a lot like the American flag, it mean a lot to me to be a part of it.

Xbox One

The next designed object that I chose was the Xbox One. I chose this because I use it all the time to watch Netflix or just play Xbox when I don’t have any school work to do. It is what I do to kill time every now and then.

Hat

The next item is another designed object that I tend to have on me all the time and that is a hat. I tend to wear one everyday so that is why I chose this item.

San Francisco

The next thing I chose was actually a designed city, San Francisco. I chose this city because it is the city that I live right outside of. I love to go here because it is just such a nice city to go and shop and spend the day.

Laptop

The next item that I chose is my laptop. I chose this because I also carry this around to class everyday and I use it everyday. It is very important to my college career because it is where I do almost all of my homework.

Oakland A’s

The next thing I chose is the Oakland A’s emblem. I chose this because they are my favorite baseball team and I have been going to A’s games since I was a little kid. This is one of the few things I remember always doing with my family.

Watch

The next designed object that I chose is a watch because it is another thing that I wear and have on me everyday. Although I have my phone to tell the time, it is still nice to have a watch and it looks nice.

Headphones

The next item I chose is a set of headphones. I chose this because I love to listen to music and it keeps me focused. I use my headphones everyday when doing homework or anything else I need to keep focused on.

Main Building University of Kentucky

Another thing I chose was the Main building at the University of Kentucky. I chose this because I feel like it is one of the biggest known buildings on campus. UK as a whole has played a huge role in my life.

Baseball

The last object that I chose is a baseball. I chose this because other than just going to baseball games, I have played baseball my whole life. It is my favorite sport so this is why I chose a baseball as one of my designed objects.

Themes

I feel like there are two themes that can be found in all of these objects and places and these are the theme of an active lifestyle and a successful lifestyle.

Active Lifestyle Theme

Almost everything I chose shows my active lifestyle because they are all things that I carry on myself everyday. I always have everything I need like my keys, wallet and phone. My truck helps me get around. The baseball represents the sports part of my life.

Successful Lifestyle Theme

All the other objects mostly represent my attempt to have a successful lifestyle. My laptop is where I do my work to try and get good grades in college. The headphones help me focus so I can do this homework. My Xbox is what I use to take a break so that I can get the best work done. Even the picture of the main building portrays my attempt at having a successful lifestyle by going to college to try and get a degree.

Consumerism

All these item can be connected to consumerism. The picture of San Francisco is a direct product of consumerism because the whole city is a big tourist city. The Oakland A’s picture represents the consumerism of going to baseball games. Everything in these pictures can be connected to consumerism.
