The DWPC will be a chance for dancers who, for varied and numerous reasons, cannot be on a competition team, but are still looking for an elevated dance experience to learn and hone techniques and skills. DWPC members will have the opportunity to dance for the community. In March and April our Teams competed dances in Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theater, Hip-Hop, Tap and Ballet at Spirit of Dance and Dance Ovations. The dances were funny, emotional, dynamic and an excellent salute to their hard work! We were all very proud of the way each dancer worked on their technique to ensure the final product was polished. The judges noticed and recognized their commitment by awarding Gold’s and High Gold’s! Accolades are always a plus, but we hope that the experience and the personal pride are what each of the dancers cherishes most. Student choreographers, Fiona Ripp and Yelisse Sanchez developed original and mature pieces that captivated and inspired. We would like to thank our instructors, Kelsie Crowley, Elaine Hom and Carol Sereda for their innovative and thoughtful choreography. We would also like to recognize the family commitment to the extra rehearsals, travel and time without which we could not get to the finish line! DANCER OF  THE MONTH

Madeline HsiaoMadeline has been dancing at Sereda DanceWorks since 2015. She is the newest member of the Apprentice Team and the Apprentice Classical Dance Company.

Ever since arriving to the SDW studios Madeline has steadily grown. It was a big and graceful leap from her first community outreach performance to becoming a full time competition team dancer. Madeline has a tenacity for picking up choreography and does not shy away from new and challenging technical steps. Look out for Madeline Hsiao to be featured in the Student Produced Concert as a dancer and first time choreographer.

Congratulations on being April's Dancer of the Month, Madeline!

Everyone has a story to tell! Consider sharing yours as we prepare to host our Second Annual Moth Story Hour fundraising event! Our fundraiser is based off the acclaimed NPR’s Moth series. It is a live storytelling event. The studio space will be transformed into a coffee house setting. This warm and cozy atmosphere encourages and invites storytellers of all stripes!

Advice for storytellers All stories should be 5 minutes. It should be told without scripts and be from the heart. Imagine that the story fits in the palm of your hand. Be sure that your story has a beginning, middle and end. A story has the most impact, for instance, if it shows some vulnerability, bad decision making or something that turns out in a surprising way. Know and practice your story. Let it take you by surprise as you develop and deliver it. It should be something that happened long enough ago, that though the feelings are there, they are not fresh and unresolved. We do not want to make the story a triggering event for you.

Explore your creative voice! Sign-up for free rehearsal space available upon request and availability. Start creating now!
