DESIGN A LAYOUT PLAN FOR SPECIALITY UNITS

HOSPITAL

Hospitals are the most complex of building types. Each hospital is comprised of a wide range of services and functional units. These include diagnostic and treatment functions, such as clinical laboratories, imaging, emergency rooms, and surgery; hospitality functions, such as food service and housekeeping; and the fundamental inpatient care or bed-related function.

The basic form of a hospital is, ideally, based on its functions: bed-related inpatient functions outpatient-related functions diagnostic and treatment functions administrative functions service functions (food, supply) research and teaching functionsHospital design Bed Planning- About 85% bed occupancy is considered optimum Hospital size- as a very large hospital of 1000 beds or more becomes extremely unwidely to operate, and a small hospital of 50 or less are not profitable. Land requirements- rural and urban areas- in rural and semi-urban areas, plentiful land may be available permitting the hospital to grow horizontally, whereas in urban areas there will always be great premium on land and only avenue will be a vertical growth.Hospital design
