Design conceptStyle theme: “Dynamic & Friendly” The pursuit of dynamic and friendly styling with a youthful vibe together with efficient packaging. Front view The short overhang suggests a compact car which is fun and stylish. Headlamp - Polypropylene headlights are strong and durable and have been designed to shine further than conventional headlights. Bumper - Fully integrated and colour coded, emphasising the Charade’s solid appeal.

13-inch full wheel - (145/80 R13 4J) A strong, sculpture-like 7-spoke design. 14-inch alloy wheel - (165/60 R14 4½J) A clean and elegant 12-spoke design.

Side viewThe new Charade is stylish and practical, the short nose improves handling and aids occupant’s field of vision. The long cabin ensures passenger space. Outer mirror - The aerodynamic outer mirror is colour coded.

Seat functionsSeat height adjuster – CelebA seat height adjuster that allows the adjusting of the entire seat is available for the driver seat.

Rear seat - The bench type seat folds flat for increased loading capacity. Despite the compact body size, efficient space utilisation is realised and usability is enhanced. The rear seat is ISO Fix compatible.

Child seat restraint anchorage - A child seat with restraint anchorages that is compatible with the internationally standard ISO is adopted. Allowing safer and easier baby seat fixing.

Easy accessibilityComfortable entry and exit is realised by increasing the maximum door opening angle. In addition, two door stop-hold positions before the maximum door opening have been modified for enhanced usability. Also, the shape of the front seat rocker area has been changed and the rear seat floor tunnel height has been reduced to contribute to easy vehicle entry and exit. Door opening angle - The angle of the maximum door opening angle has been enlarged to approximately 90 degrees.

Front seat rocker area shape - A shape with good foot space characteristics during entry or exit is adopted.

Rear seat floor shape - The reduction of rear floor tunnel height has resulted in the realisation of ample rear seat foot space. Luggage compartment usability Fixed rear seat - Luggage compartment floor length is 470 mm. Able to store two mineral water cases in a cross-wise direction.

Intelligent Catalyst - The Daihatsu exclusive Intelligent Catalyst, which realises constantly fresh catalyst activity and suppresses catalyst age deterioration by regenerating the metals used for the catalyst inside the exhaust gas. The realisation of excellent long-term exhaust gas purification performance not only suppresses environmental pollution, but also significantly reduces the amount of used precious metal, thus realising excellent resource saving.

Brake mechanism

Front brake - The Charade is equipped with 12-inch solid disc brakes for excellent braking force.

Rear brake - The rear brakes are leading trailing type drum brakes with a diameter of 165 mm.

Side collision - Side impact energy is efficiently transmitted and spread through the straight shaped rear floor cross members. In addition, the front door inside impact beams are overlapped by the centre pillars in order for the body to efficiently absorb and spread impact, and high tensile steel sheets are adopted for a high level of door strength.

Rear collision - Rear impact energy is transmitted and spread to the underfloor panel to suppress cabin deformation.

Brake control deviceABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is available in order to prevent accidents and help ensure further safety.

SRS airbags - Celeb: SRS airbags are available to ease impact to occupants in the unlikely event of a collision.

Seatbelts - Lap-outer pre-tensioner mechanism. An additional mechanism is added to the lap belt to complement the existing function for excellent occupant restraining during collision. Pre-tensioner pulls occupant into chair and force limiter prevents seatbelt injury.

Head impact protection

Impact absorption material - Rib structured resin is adopted inside each pillar garnish in order to ease impact to occupant heads in the case of secondary collision with interior parts.

Together with the brake pedal intrusion preventing mechanism, lower leg injury reducing pads are adopted for the front floor panel to ease impact to occupant lower body parts.

Audio systemA flush-surface audio unit with an exclusively developed face panel is adopted to complement the trendy and high quality feel generating instrument panel. In addition, CD player, RDS (Radio Data System) compatibility is adopted in consideration for functionality.

Flush-surface audio unit - In addition to the equipped AM/FM (Radio Data System compatible)/CD, amber colour night time illumination is adopted.

Smart start systemA “Smart start system” that automatically operates an automobile self-starter for the engine is adopted for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. Q uality

Noise and vibration measures

A power plant that reduces gear noise and vibration, a body structure that suppresses noise and vibration, and a flush surface body that reduces wind roar are adopted as the three main items to directly reduce noise and vibration from their roots, thus resulting in NV (Noise and Vibration) performance nearly on par with superior class models.

Reduction of power plant vibration - Together with the enhancement of the engine and transmission coupling rigidity, 2-point engine mounts (with torque rods) are adopted to reduce vibration from the root.

Reduction of body noise and vibration - Curved beads are adopted for the front floor panel to reduce vibration, and sound insulation material is efficiently positioned to ensure a high level of quietness.

A dash cross member is available for the dash panel to reduce vibration and items including inner silencers are adopted to reduce interior noise intrusion and ensure a high level of quietness.
