I have decided upon the Tropical Themed energy drink I came up with, this is the one I liked most out of my other 3 ideas (sports drink, animal based drink and music drink). The tropical drink is the one I had most ideas for and looked the most appealing to myself, and because I fit within the target audience I chose than that suggests that the target audience will be interested in my drink. The music idea can also fit In with this idea through beach festivals which I could incorporate with adverts and sponsoring etc.
Name & SloganThe names I have come up with for the tropical drink are:Toucan – I think it is simple and effective. I do not like long names as such with drinks because when you are asking for one at a bar for example its nice to keep them short and simple like ‘relentless’ and ‘monster’. I also thought it would work well with the theme of tropical because the bird is found in tropical countries. It would also work nice with the design on the packaging and on the adverts because I could place a picture of the bird next to the name with a tropical background like a beach or rainforest. Slogan – Toucan play that game. This is an interesting slogan that is a play with words, it works well with the name and the advert idea. Slogan – Revive Yourself. This suggests straight away that it gives you energy and puts you back on your feet. It is short and snappy and it think will work very well with the idea I have in mind.
Caribbean twist or Hawaiian breeze – These are both names that I thought worked with the tropical theme because they both are places that have tropical aspects and are hot. They would also work nice with the colour scheme because I could add bright colours around the name and a nice tropical background again.
Koala - I thought of this idea whilst thinking about the advert; I wanted the energy drink to sponsor music festivals and events because the target audience is interested in going to these events in summer. But because the drink is tropical I wanted it to be festivals abroad such as Hideout. Oliver Heldens is a very popular music artist and his song called Koala is one of my favorites. So I thought naming the drink Koala would be a good idea because it fits with the tropical theme and also the advert Idea of having Oliver Heldens playing the song in the advert and everyone enjoying the festival whilst drinking the drink.
The name ‘Twist’ and ‘Breeze’ would also work nice against another name to be a different drink but for the same brand. For example there is Lucozade sport, Lucozade revive and Lucozade energy. This would work nicely with Koala and Toucan and theirbeen a ‘Toucan breeze’ which would include more blue and green colours and include flavours like pineapple or lemon and lime. And ‘Toucan Twist’ which would be more orange and pink colours and would include passion fruit and orange. ‘Koala Cola’ wouldalso be and interesting one and would be cola flavoured. These names are good because they make anything look or sound tropical and you would associate these names straight away with bright colours and fruity flavours.
Copy/Script development
I have my final names to choose from either ‘Koala’ or ‘Toucan’ and I have come up with Advertisement ideas for both of them.
TV Advert Ideas – ‘Koala’
For my advert I want it to be focused on Oliver Heldens performing his song in the music festival and one of the cans of Koala will be on his DJ set, then the camera turning to focus on the crowd having a really good time and then someone opens a can of ‘koala twist’ and someone else opens a can of ‘Koala breeze’ and then the song goes to the chorus and the camera moves up to show a birds eye view of the festival and the can appears on screen. After this happens it will say Koala Twist and then the slogan.
I really like the idea of this advert because it’s simple and effective, doesn’t say much about the drink but clearly shows that everyone loves it, and because my target audience enjoys summer and festivals that happen throughout summer they will immediately be drawn to the advert to see what product is being advertised in it.
The packaging for Koala would be very tropical with a picture of a Koala behind the title name. It would be blue and yellow colours with surrounding beaches and tropical themes. I want the packaging to be very unique and easily recognized by the public so when people see a certain colour or image they immediately associate it with the drink.
TV Advert ideas – ‘Toucan’For this advert I want people to be going through a rainforest on a hike to find animals and they look really tired and have drank their last bit of water. A toucan then flies over and drops a can of toucan down to a person and when they open it they really like the drink and are suddenly refreshed. The toucan then flies onto a branch, winks at the camera and a voice says ‘Toucan play that game’ this advert is also very simple.
The packaging for Toucan would be also very tropical but with a picture of a Toucan next to the name and the beak either with the name on or surrounding the name, or maybe even between the top and bottom of the beak. The colours would be bright summery colours, blue and yellow for the breeze and pinks and oranges for the Twist. However I still want the packaging to be recognised as one brand ‘Toucan’ the packaging will include fruits on it and maybe a palm tree to suggest the tropical theme.
Slogan IdeasToucan Play it. Toucan Drink it.Revive your energy Revive Yourself
Copy/Script development
I have decided that I like the ‘Toucan’ name best and the idea of the Koala advert best, I am going to mix both ideas together to create one idea. I am going to use the name toucan but keep the concept of the music festival advert. The can is going to sponsor a music festival, this idea will be really effective and good towards my target audience, because they will be interested in the drink before they even see it because it works like a hypodermic syringe theory, because other people their age are drinking it at the festival and really enjoying it they will immediately think they will think the same and really like it, as well with Oliver Heldens being a celebrity endorsement this will also encourage them.
ColoursBreeze – blue, green, yellowTwist – orange, pink, yellow
Poster Advert Ideas The can will be placed in the middle of the page with a Toucan flying. It will be a really colourfull poster with a lot of fruits and flowers to make it look tropical. The poster will not be overcrowded too much though because I think that brings the attention off the can and onto the things in the background rather then the foreground. I have researched into tropical drinks, as I have not seen or heard of any energy drinks that are tropical, and I have come across Rubicon which includes some of the ideas I have for my own, that it is very colourfull and fruity.
Target AudienceMy target audience will be both genders, but because I am making different drinks out of the one name like ‘twist’ and ‘breeze’ one might be more target at one gender then the other. For example breeze is going to be more blue coloured based which a boy would be more attracted to. Women do not usually mind what colour the drink is but men do. For example men are targeted at drinking Lucozade and they brought out a ‘pink lemonade’ one and the bottle is pink, therefore women are attracted to it, however, a man would buy a different flavor because they do not get attracted to that certain colours. My drinks will hopefully be attracted by both because I want both genders to be interested. The audience will be young and aged between 16-25 because these are the people who usually go to a shop to buy an energy drink and usually are the type to go to music festivals each year and be interested in the latest music. Whereas people above this age do not usually like the thought of energy drinks and the ingredients included., they have usually also grown out of music festivals or have lost interest because they simply do not have time to take of work to go to them. The audience will be middle- low class because higher class will usually buy more healthy drinks or more expensive, these people are also not really the type to be interested in the certain type of music at festivals as well as attending them.
Font/Colour Scheme development
The first one I saw on the left was a brush type font, I liked
this one because it looked different and I think it would look
really nice on the can and blend in with the theme, although
I do not know whether it will blend in to much and not stick
out, I might have to do something with the colour to make it
stand out more.
I really liked this font because I thought it would fit nicely
with the tropical theme again, although it is quite
stereotypical in the sense of associating it with a tropical
theme, however this could be a good thing because it will be
easily remembered.
I thought I would look for a few more simple fonts also.
This font reminds me of a paint brush, it looks like the
lettering has being painted which reminds me of tribes. I
think this would look nice on the can as well.
This is my least favorite out of the 5 because I
think it is to simple and would look boring
compared to the rest, but I am going to keep it to
see what it would look like when placing them on
the can.
I like that this one is simple but still has a
remembrance to it, I would remember the
font if I saw it somewhere else, which I
want people to do.
Font/Colour Scheme development
I like both of these colour
schemes because they
match the other name I
am giving them both
which is Toucan Breeze
and Toucan Twist. The
twist colour scheme will
be the warmer colours
and the Colder colours
will be breeze.
I did two different colour
scheme to attract a
different audience to
them both (breeze-male
Twist-Female) I still am
aiming them at both
audience’s but one
slightly towards the other
gender.
Font/Colour Scheme development
This will be my font that I use for the ingredients
and smaller text on my cans of Toucan. The
colours will also be the darker colour of my colour
scheme. This is because they stand out more with
the darker colour but I don’t want them black.
Because the can is light I have to use dark colours
for the small text, otherwise it will not be seen at
all.
These were the two darker colours of the colour
scheme, however, I prefer the pink colour even
darker because I think the bright pink will look to
harsh against the bright background.
Breeze and Twist will be in this font that I have
chosen and the same colour as the title. I like the
font because it fits with the other fonts and is still
different from the main title. When Twist and
Breeze is placed below toucan it will stand out
because of the different font type. The fonts are
quite feminine which may make it more of a girl
drink, however I am still going to include males in
the advert and pictures.
Font/Colour Scheme development
I think the colours work nicely together and the text fits with the main body text. The
two different cans will be the same design but with both different colour schemes. I
aimed the breeze to suit the male audience more and the twist to suit the female
audience more, however they’re still targeted at both genders. I might have to
change the colour of the Twist and Breeze when it comes to choosing my
background colour because they may be to similar.
I have decided to make the flavours the same colour as the main font because I
think that it looks to different with them at different colours and the can packaging
itself will be colourful enough.
Product packaging development
Placement ideas
Product packaging development
Use this space to document your product development.
There should be lots of variety here.
You can produce mock ups and flat plans.
You can test different designs.
I like these colours and designs best out of the others I was trying out. The colours work together nicely and
were similar to the colour scheme I originally came up with. I made the background blue lighter because the
main text didn’t stand out with the harsh background. These designs are only basic and do not yet include
the slogan, ingredients and nutrition information.
After designing the different layouts I decided to choose one but when designing the Twist can also I
decided to change the fruit and made the breeze lemon and lime and the Twist Orange.
Product packaging development
I have narrowed my layouts down to both of these ones, I wanted to see how it looked on the
can so I placed the flat plan ideas onto the can. I created the flat plan by using to rectangles to
place ideas in that would be around the can and the little box is for the writing on the back of the
can, mostly including the ingredients. This gave me a rough idea of where to put everything. As
you can see you can only see the front of the can so it is a good idea to produce the flat plan so
you can add more stuff round the edges.
I like this design because there isn’t a lot of white space, it is filled up nicely of the main image
and the pictures of the ingredients (fruit) the colours also work together really nicely. Blue is for
the name of this Toucan can (breeze) and the oranges work nicely with the beak of the Toucan.
I do not like how the Toucan doesn’t really blend into the can like the oranges do and the colour
blue I have layed over the top, but when I have more time to spend on the end design this
would out better.
I like the flat plan and can design of that layout because the toucans beak goes round the main
text, but from the front of the can it doesn’t look that good because of the beak so I decided to
text what the toucan looks like underneath the main text and it also works nicely there.
development I thought lemon and lime worked better with the breeze drink
because of the colours and orange worked better with twist
because of the same reason. I like how their isn’t much space left
to fill because I wanted a drink that had lots of colour to fit with the
theme tropical. I do like simple energy drink cans but I didn’t want
my product to be like that. A simple one with a tropical theme
sounds boring and I tried it and didn’t like any design. I came up
with the slogan ‘revive yourself’ and added them to the flat plan
because I thought it was simple but effective. Its short which
makes is easy to remember but also fits with the advert ideas of
giving you energy to stay up at festivals, which is reviving yourself.
Task 6: Advert Development
What I did:
The first thing I did was find an image that went with my theme
‘tropical’ I wanted a beach picture because I thought it would look
good behind my can. I think it worked well so I added the slogan
below the can. This still looked quite plain and boring.
I then added the scan code for mobiles to get quick access to our
page on face book to the bottom left, they usually go in one of
the corners of the page. I also added the hideout festival logo
because my drink sponsors there festival and I wanted the
audience to be alerted to this as well. After I added both of these
I realised that there was a lot of work at the bottom of the advert
and not the top so I repositioned the slogan to the top of the
page.
I wanted to add more text onto the page to make it more
interesting and have more for the audience to look at so I
changed the sponsoring position to down the side of the hideout
logo. I decided to add ‘Introducing… Toucan energy’ but the text
didn’t stand out very well so I put a low opacity rectangle below
it. I still wasn’t happy with the pink because it stood out to much
among everything else so I changed it to a light yellow. I then
blurred the edge of the box slightly because it blended in more
this way.
Another thing I changed because it didn’t stand out enough was
the slogan. I put a light blue stroke around it so it didn’t look like it
was behind the background image, because it did before I
changed it.
Task 6: Advert Development
I changed around the text in the yellow box around the page but
it didn’t look as good as the bottom because it didn’t fit properly. I
then just moved everything up slightly so the whole page was full
and then I was happy with the final piece.
I have seen adverts like mine that inspired me to do a realistic
background, such as Tropicana, which was also a tropical drink
so I researched into it because it would really help mine look like
a professional advert.
The Tropicana advert ad a background of a sunset landscape
with tree’s surrounding, which is similar to my beach
background. There's is more simple which much less text which
is good and effective but I thought a good advert needs to have
a scan code in because the product is then more known and the
word about It spreads on the social networking sites. I also
thought adding the bit about hideout will be beneficial towards
my audience because it will not only tell them it sponsors hideout
it will also suggest that it is a drink for that certain target
audience and as soon as the logo catches their eye it will
immediately make them want to know what's sponsoring them.
Strengths and weakness’
What I like about my advert is that the colour scheme really suits
the advert and the product, they work well together. It took me
along time to come up with the colour because I think this is
really essential to get an audience interested in the product
because the first thing you notice when you look at a piece of
paper is the colour of it.
The slogan on this advert doesn’t catch your eye, however I
have made the advert quite busy and interesting for an audience
to look at it, which will usually make them read the advert so this
is a huge problem but is something that I could try alter and
change more.
I liked the idea of the background being tropical on my first advert so used that idea for my
second advert. I didn’t want them to look to different though because then they would not be
recognised as the same product, so for now I have left them the same but with a different
background, both still tropical but a different colour scheme to suit the audience. Twist is for
more of a female audience and Breeze is more of a male audience.
I do not like how ‘Revive yourself’ is blending in with the background and does not stand above
it enough. I liked the colours though because they were the same colours as the first advert but
switched around so that the stroke was pink and main colour was blue and on breeze the stroke
was blue and the main colour was pink.
The background colours are strong as well so that the can doesn’t stand above it enough. I
might either blur the background slightly or alter the colour balance.
I don’t like the white boxes at the bottom of the advert I think that they ruin the overall colorful
and tropical effect that it gives of. I might still keep the ‘hideout’ logo but delete the rest of the
writing that the white box contains and get rid of the white box. I might also see what it looks
like without the scan code and just add a face book and twitter icon for audience interaction. I
will do this to the other advert also because I want them to look similar so they are recognised
as the same but different so they aren’t to similar and boring.
Another thing I could improve is making the can in line with the bridge because it is slightly off
and doesn’t look very good.
I changed the boxes at the bottom so that there were not white and instead of the scan code I
placed a twitter and facebook icon, I think they look butter but now the hideout logo doesn’t
catch your eye, which it did before and I wanted this to happen because it was an essential
thing for the audience to see first because the audience I am looking for are people of the age
group and interest as people that go to this festival, so when they see the logo they are
immediately interested, so I think the white background might be essential.
I also changed around the placement of writing to see what worked best and what didn’t. I
moved the twitter and facebook icons to the top left of the page and moved the hideout logo to
the middle. This helps the logo stand out more than it did but still not enough. The icons at the
top are hidden and they ruin the effect of the slogan and make this less noticeable. So I think I
might stick with the original layout but change the writing.
I decided that I wanted to try out something that looked more simple,
without a busy background like my other two ideas. There are not a
lot of ideas I could come up with without the page having to much
white space so I thought of having fruit on the page to fill up some
space. This idea actually worked out well and as you can see from
the image on the right, there isn’t a lot of white space. I added a
gradient to the bottom of the page as well to add the two audience
parts into the advert but also added it to fill up a bit of white space
and make the page more colourfull which is what I intended to do
from the beginning.
I like this idea because it is nice and simple but it does make you
immediately think that it is fruity and tropical still, as well as my other
advert and everything on this advert catches your eye and stands
out. Whereas with my first idea some of the text wasn’t noticeable
because of the busy backgrounds.
The thing I do not like about this advert is that it reminds me of a smoothie advert like innocent because they contain mainly
fruit they usually have fruit all over their adverts. However I did do some research into fizzy drinks that contain fruit flavours like
Rubicon and they have fruit on their adverts also, so this actually isn’t a big problem. There are no energy drinks that are
usually fruit interpreted but I wanted mine to be different from the rest of them, this way people will want to have the drink
because it is something new. Whereas Red Bull and Monster and similar and people have tasted these sort of energy drink
flavours, but my advert itself suggests that it is different just from the pictures.
The strengths of this advert are the colour, which makes us assume that it is fruity and healthy, unlike ordinary energy drinks. It
also suggests that it is ok for children under 16 and pregnant women, which it is because it is slow releasing energy and not to
high in caffeine. Another thing I like about the colour is that as soon as you turn the page you want to see what the advert is
about because colour to the target audience I have is essential. Another strength is that you can see everything clearly and it is
a neat presented advert unlike the other one I produced which is really busy. A weakness of this advert was at first the white
background which I have changed to a very light blue which is hardly noticeable but it makes it look better because the white
isn’t to harsh. Another weakness is the can looks like it’s been placed there because there isn’t room anywhere else on the
page, I think this would improve when I have my can designed properly and I have used the correct tools to fit it into the page
correctly, for example the blur tool round the edge so that the edges aren’t to harsh.
What are the technical qualities of your work? The technical qualities of my work is the spray coming out of the can because this was
something that took time and a lot of work on Photoshop to complete. By making the
spray I got a stock image of water splashing, then I set the blending mode to ‘screen’
to get rid of the black background it had. I then gathered images of fruit (the flavours in
the drink) and placed it around the water to make it look like there is fruit coming out of
the can, which suggests that it is full of fruit and flavour. By blending the fruit into the
water I put some of it behind the water and some of it on top this then creates the
effect that the fruit is mixed in with the water.
The background of this advert was originally going to be plain because I was making a
simple advert to see what looks better because the other adverts I had produced first
were busy and had a lot of information on, but I liked the advert been busy, I thought
that it fit with my target audience better and they would be more interested in this;
Task 6: Advert Evaluation
for that reason I switched the background with a background of a beach, which fits in with my theme ‘tropical’ I then felt like
the background was taking your attention away from the can and the fruit bursting out of it, therefore I put a gaussian blur
on the background so that the foreground was more in focus and to your attention. I didn’t want the can to be in mid air so I
placed it on a wooden shelf that is situated at the bottom of my advert. This still needs a lot of work to make sure it looks
right and blended properly.
The other adverts I produced I really like also, however I thought the last advert I was working on had more technical and
aesthetic qualities which made me edge towards it more then the other 2. Instead of having 1 advert to develop I created
an advert and developed it to the best standard I could and then did this with 3 adverts, which worked well because it gave
me a decision to decide which one my target audience would be most interested in.
The advert is not yet finished and needs some major adjustments including switching the can with the real and finished
design. I need to make sure everything is perfect such as making the can blend into the advert and background properly
and also putting on the information and writing including the slogan, hideout logo and face book/twitter icons.
What are the aesthetic qualities of your work? The aesthetic qualities of my work is the overall effect that is has. I like that the can is bursting out with flavour
and fruit and I like that it is in a tropical scene. My target audience is ages around 16-25 because my drink is
flavoured with fruit and gives of a good vibe whereas Monster is giving of a weird edge, hence the name, it is for
people only over the age of 16 because of the ingredients, this makes it so that pregnant and young teenagers
can drink it also, people under the ages of 16 can also have this drink it is just not specifically targeted at them. I
think this target audience will like my advert because the tropical scene immediately draws to your attention, as
well as the colour on the page, and everyone between these ages likes holidays and sun so they would want to
read the advert to see what it Is about. The logo in the bottom right is of Hideout festival which the drink sponsors,
hideout is abroad on a beach in Croatia which is very popular for the ages of 16-21 which fits in with my target
audience of this age and outgoing, fun people, which makes it so that when the audience see the logo they will
have a vibe that the drink will be something that they will like to try out.
The advert works well together giving that it is busy. Busy adverts work for a young audience because they like
colour and photographs. When an audience looks at a page they have the attention span of about 3 seconds, so if
they are not interested within 3 seconds they will turn the page (if the advert was in a magazine) I think that my
advert is interesting and will be read. This audience will also not want a lot of writing because this puts them of
looking at the advert, they are more interested in pictures. The only writing that is included within the advert is the
slogan and extra little bits, which is good because it doesn’t spoil the effect. The drink is for males and females
however the Toucan Breeze is slightly aimed more at males and the Toucan Twist is slightly aimed more at
females. The advert I am evaluating is of the Toucan Breeze because this is the ‘original’ drink and the Twist
would come out potentially after breeze comes out for about 6 months, this keeps an audience interested when
another product of the brand comes out.
Another thing I like about my advert is the sun in the background, it is very bright which brightens up the whole
advert and makes it look really nice and fit together well. The whole advert works well with the theme and is what I
wanted from the start of thinking about the advert. It took me a while to get to this advert because I produced a
few, but this was a good thing because it helped me think more about the audience and what I wanted the advert
to look like. All the adverts are similar in the sense they’re tropical and contain fruit but they all give a different
effect of.
I didn’t add the brand/drink name ‘Toucan’ to the page because I do no this it is essential because it clearly has
the name on the drink but not the slogan so I think that the advert only needs the slogan on the page.
Task 6: Advert Evaluation
Are there opportunities for further development of your work? There is a lot of room to add more text and to change the advert around because this is not
the final piece. The advert needs the be blended into the background properly, this will be
done by using the blur tool on Photoshop and gong round the edge of the can to make it
more subtle and less harsh. The shadow below the can also needs to change and make it so
it looks more real then it is. This can be done by altering the colour and placing it in the
proper place. The slogan and extra bits of information need to be placed in their proper
places and tweaks for it to be how I want the advert to be. The can also needs to be replaced
by my final can design.
This is the advert I had least production time on, I could of changed around the background
more to see where it would look best because this is only a small crop of the actual full
picture as you can see from the top image. I liked the amount that it was blurred however,
because it made the foreground stand out more which is what I intended to do, the main
aspect of this advert was the can and the bursting water and fruit.
I could of also experimented with the position of the slogan because of the palm tree in the
background, however, because there is a stroke around the writing, it doesn’t actually hide it,
the background been blurred also helps this.
Are your final pieces fit for purpose? My final advert is fit for purpose and fit with my target audience because it fits their exact
needs for an advert, which include; lots of colour, pictures, fun and also not a lot of writing.
This is exactly how I wanted my advert to turn out like. My other adverts also fit with the
target audience. However the advert with the fruit is good, and contains colour but I do not
think it fits with my theme of tropical and ruins the overall look I think, this is why I did not
choose this advert and carried on with developing the tropical backgrounds. I think that
advert gave the can a bit of a different audience as well and was aimed at mums and more of
an older audience. This is mainly because the background was white and the only colour was
from the fruits, which also suggests that it is healthy, which an older audience is more
interested in.
My advert is similar to the one on the right, even though It isn’t an energy drink. It is similar in
the sense that the drink is sat on something and the background is also blurry. This advert I
think is aimed at mums and an older audience to buy for themselves or children, because it
contains fruit and is suggesting It is healthy. I didn’t’ want mine to look like this which Is why I
haven’t used the advert containing fruit.
Task 6: Advert Evaluation
What areas of planning and development worked
well? All of my planning and development ideas worked well because they
helped me decide what worked best for my audience and what looked the
most effective. They also helped me choose whether I wanted a busy
advert full of images of a more simple advert with a plain colour block
background.
By developing my work it allowed me to switch around the layout and try
out lots of different things and techniques. I changed around the page
orientation (landscape and portrait) to see which one worked best and
suited the images more. Some of them worked better in landscape and
some worked better in portrait. But without development you wouldn’t of
been able to see this. The fruit image worked better on landscape
because it was then able to go all across the page as shown and then
there was still enough room for the slogan and can, whereas the other
ones were able to fit on portrait. When I was developing my work I thought
that I was missing something from the advert that would make it better,
then I realised it was the can, it didn’t look right just sat in the middle of
the page. I thought it was boring and it is really common for a can jut to be
place on an advert and I wanted mine to be different. This made me
experiment around with stuff coming out of the can and things that the
drink can sit on, which Is when I came up with the water bursting out of
the can with fruit, I liked this idea because it gave me more to work with
and try out, which enhanced my skills on Photoshop more and also made
my advert look better. Development is a necessary thing when carrying
out work like this because if I had my original idea and didn’t develop it I
wouldn’t have my end advert.
Planning is also necessary because when you have the plan in mind, it
comes together really quick when placing your ideas into Photoshop.
Task 6: Advert Evaluation
What areas of planning and development could have
done with more work? I don’t think there are a lot of parts where my work could have done with more
development, because every advert I produced I developed it so that I tried every
layout possible and made it as good as I could. There are little tweaks of the work
that I could of done such as blending the can into the background and placing
twitter and facebook icons in, other then this I am pleased with the adverts I have
done. I could have done my planning better by planning out how long I am going
to spend on one of my advert ideas and how long I am going to spend developing.
This way I could of produced my final advert In good time and developed this one
the most and make it as perfect as it could get. This didn’t happen because I
spent a different amount of time on all of them, this is due to the fact that some of
them were more simple to make then others were. Next time I have work like this
to do I need to produce a schedule on how long I am gong to work on something.
Task 6: Advert Evaluation
What effect did you think your development stages had on the final product? The development stages had a really good overall effect on my final product because I went from such a simple
idea to a more complex well thought about and structured idea that contained more elements and things that
would make the audience more happy.
I went from a very simple idea of a tropical background with the can placed in the middle and writing around
from a can placed on a wooden table with fruit bursting out the top and the background blurred so that the
foreground was more in focus. I took a long time in the development stages to get to the nearly finished final
advert idea.
Existing adverts also inspired me along the way to change and develop mine so they looked more professional
and like existing ones.
Even though the advert on the right isn’t an energy drink advert, just a fizzy drink, I liked the idea of the tropical
background, which made me want mine this way. Energy drink adverts are usually aimed at males and are
usually about strength or rock/ metal music, for example relentless, rockstar and monster. Which Is why I
wanted mine to be different and aim it at both genders. Lucozade Caribbean crush and drinks such as this are
really fun and have good adverts that are aimed more at women, which also inspired me to make mine sponsor
a music festival, the festival isn’t taking part much in the magazine advert, but in my TV advert it is apart of the
advert.
Task 7: Product Development
I have created 2 designs for the front, side and back of the cans, this
way I have a choice between 2 on my final. By making 2 it then lets
me see what they would both look like realistically and then it can
help me decide on which one I prefer.
The first design was of the toucan at the side of the logo with fruit
splashing, I like this layout because the toucan fits nicely round the
logo and when you turn the can you can see it positioned on the
side of the can. This way the can is really busy with images all
around it, which I wanted, I wanted it to look colourful and exciting.
On the side of this can there is 2 more images of fruit, this way there
is a lot and more colour. The toucan is the right size on both can
images to fit perfectly. I also like the back of this can because the
information fits on it exactly and it looks neat.
The second design is of the toucan below the logo, this one looks
nice because it puts more attention on the fruit which will still be
situated around the can. The breeze text is positioned above the
logo on this design which I do not like because it looks like ‘breeze
toucan’ instead of ‘toucan breeze’. I decided on this design that I
wanted text on the side of the can because on the first design it was
all images. It looks nice and neat, however I wanted it to be more
images, so I prefer the side of the first design. The back of this
design also contains a bit of the fruit which I think ruins the back.
I prefer the first design overall because the toucan looks better when
it is around the logo rather then below it. It looks out of place when it
is below the can. I like that there is more fruit on the first design also.
I overall like the colour scheme of my designs because the colours
all work together nicely and contrast in a good way, it makes the
product look tropical and colourful which was my main aim.
Task 7: Final Packaging
What are the technical qualities of your work? The technical qualities of my work are the images around the can because I had to make sure that they blended in with the
can otherwise they would of looked out of place, by doing this I removed all the background of the image by using the magic
wand tool, I then made changes to the blending mode to make it look like the images were on the can, because this way it
brings through the aluminium look of the can. I also did this with the can itself by putting a layer over the top and changing
the colour to my colour theme blue and set the blending mode to multiply. If I had more time to complete my production I
would of taken my own photographs of fruit splashing into water, this would of made my work better because I could of done
them exactly how I wanted and then most of the work could of been mine. It would of been hard to take a photograph of the
Toucan myself as they are not in England., however I do like the images that I found.
The fruit was originally going to be oranges on the ‘Breeze’ can but then I decided that they didn’t fit with the colour theme
of this can very well and would look better on the ‘twist’ can so I changed it to lemon and lime, which overall looked better on
the can. The water effect round them works very well.
I like the fonts on the can, they work very well with the theme and blend into the can very well. I made the back of the can
font the same as the ‘Lemon and lime’ font. The fonts are also the same as the ones on the advert so they are easily
recognisable. The nutrition information of the can is just a plain font so that it can be read easily.
There was not a lot that was technical about the back of the can other then I made the slogan at the bottom look like it was
going around the can so it looked more realistic. I found information about other energy drinks that were similar to mine so I
could alter them slightly and make mine similar. I used an organic energy drink that was suitable for children because mine
is. It was hard to make the back of the can realistic but I did my best in doing this by looking at other energy drinks though
rally.
The side of the can is similar to the fruit because it has half of the Toucan on and more of the splashing fruit, I did the same
with this fruit on Photoshop as I did with the fruit on the front and make sure there is no background to them and they're
blended with the can.
Task 7: Packaging Evaluation
What are the aesthetic qualities of your work?
The aesthetic qualities of my work is the overall look that it shows, I wanted it to be shown as
very colourful and tropical which I think it does. The colour scheme was bright colours, mostly
cold ones for breeze and warm ones for twist. This way they both contain bright colours but
contrasting ones. And one is aimed more at the male audience and one the female audience.
This way they’re both tropical but aimed at both audiences.
I already know that Lemon and Lime is a popular flavour because of the 7up drink that is
popular, however mine has a different kick to it to give you that bit of energy, which makes me
think it will be a very popular drink. Twist flavour is orange which is the same flavour as tango
which is also popular. I think that showing the flavour on the can of the fruit indicates that it is
a healthy fruit based drink. I like the fact this drink isn’t very unhealthy like the other energy
drinks and fizzy drinks out there. Which suggests it will be very popular to an older audience
as well that thinks about there health.
I made sure that all my work on the can was lined up properly by using the rulers and grid
lines on Photoshop, this way it shows that I want to make it look professional and everything
is in place properly.
I like how the can is really busy full of images as well as the advert, it gives of the fun effect
and suggests who the audience is for really easily, it will also encourage the audience to drink
it well because they will like the advert and can design and when an audience likes both they
immediately want to try it out. The TV advert also helps with this as well because it is the
hideout festival which is for fun outgoing people.
The fruit on the front is very fresh and it looks tasty which is essential and looks really good
because if the fruit did not look appetising then this would make the drink also not look
appetising. It is very important for the can to look good because if it does not then the
audience will not want to drink it, that's why the packaging is very important. Think that my
packaging has worked out well and better then what I thought it would. I wanted it to be very
colourful which has worked out well.
Task 7: Packaging Evaluation
Are there opportunities for further development of
your work?If I were to develop my work further I would take photographs of the fruit
splashing in the water myself so I could get the exact image I want. This will
ensure that the right sizing is correct and there would be no background to the
image. I would also change around the layout to see what worked out best,
although I did do this a lot in production. The blending mode worked perfectly to
ensure the colour of the can was what I wanted it to be and the lighting and
aluminium affect came through perfectly on both twist and breeze.
For the back of the can I would change the writing so it looks like it is going
around the can more, which would make it look more apart of it, whereas now it
looks like it has just been placed on which doesn’t look as good. Like the picture
of this can for example, you can see that the writing goes around the can. I know
that mine is not real but I could of given it this effect to make it look more
realistic. However it doesn’t look to out of place which to slogan at the bottom
wrapping around the can.
If I had more time to develop my work I possibly would of created a banner
round the top of the can and either placed to logo in it or the flavour of the drink.
This way it would of been in a sectioned box rather then at the bottom of the
can. It was hard to decide the placement of writing because there was so many
images to fit around the can.
I like how my design is different from all over cans., most cans have the front
and side of the can the same. Including the name and slogan, possibly an
image. Where as mine is a big design wrapped around the can, which is different
and what I wanted. The Coca Cola can for example has this where It simply
has the logo twice and then the nutrition information on the back. Which works
well for some drinks but not with the effect I wanted to give my drink.
Task 7: Packaging Evaluation
What areas of planning and development worked
well? Planning and developing worked well overall because it took me a while to decide
which layouts I liked best so planning gave me a chance to make up some ideas
roughly and when it got chance to evaluate them a little it gave me the opportunity
to see which ones I liked best, and when I chose the best layouts I developed
them to make them look there best and after evaluating on the final ones it then
showed me which one worked and looked the best.
This made it a lot easier to do both of my cans faster because when I had finished
developing and completing my first can I used the same layout and fonts to create
my second can ‘Twist’ the only things I needed to alter was my flavours and my
images.
I had enough time to create my can because I knew roughly what I wanted it to
look like so when I placed all my images in Photoshop I just had to mainly move
them around to see where I like them the best, which didn’t take to long. I already
knew from ideas and mind maps what type of font I wanted to use and what
worked best with my theme so this didn’t take long to write and place on the can.
The tricky thing with the can is that you need to find the right blending mode to
put on the can so that the aluminium showed through the colour to make it look
more realistic, which I found with time.
Healthy energy drinks like mine usually contain white and bright colours whereas
other ones that are not so healthy are usually dark and targeted at men. I think
mine has given of the effect it is healthy which is clearly seen by the packaging
because mine contains bright colours and fruit which is healthy. It also has a
friendly name and is targeted at male and females.
Task 7: Packaging Evaluation
What areas of planning and development could have done with more
work?
The developing of the back of the can with the nutrition information could have done with some more
work because it didn’t have all the information that most energy drinks cans have including the little
things like calorie intake per ** etc. I could of taken my own photographs of the fruit for the front of the
can, which would of worked out better and looked better because I could of done them the right size
and the way I wanted them to look. The fruit could of done with some more work because it was hard to
remove the background of the fruit so you can still see a bit of white on them which could have been
removed it just took time. Another thing that could have done with more work was making it look like it
was actually on the can, I think I did this well with the background ‘blue’ of the can but I didn’t use the
techniques on everything placed on it, because it would of took a lot of time and practise to do this. For
example I could of used the method I used for the background which was a blending mode ‘multiple’ on
some of the pictures to make them look apart of the can. Another thing I could of done was make it so
the text on the can looked like it was going round the can instead of just stuck on, I could of done this
by warping the text slightly.
Overall I think I did the planning really well because I liked the overall look of the can and I think I used
the time well.
What effect did you think your development stages had on the final
product?
I think it had a really good effect on the final product because It gave me enough time to develop the
final layout and idea I liked to the best outcome it could of got, that’s why there was not much to
develop on what I have already got. The packaging came out exactly how I wanted it to come out . The
developing stages let me change around the colour theme slightly so that the blending modes didn’t
change the colour to much and that the fonts looks appropriate.
The can fits in with the theme appropriately and it looks like it is aimed at the audience I intended it to, it
also looks like it is aimed at both male and female. Another thing I like about it is that it is very tropical
and summery which is what I wanted.
Task 8: Web Banner Development
I decided to do a long skyscraper banner at 160x600 pixels. This is because I
wanted to carry on the idea that was similar to my advert, with the fruit bursting
out of the can along with the drink. I made the water coming out longer then on
my advert because it was a long banner so I thought it would look a lot better.
The animation that will happen is the water coming out and the fruit going up
the banner.
I wanted this one to be more simple then my advert. My advert had a beach
background but I thought this time I would keep it more simple and plain, but it
still looks effective because of the fruit and water.
I like how there isn’t any space left on the banner because I like the adverts to
be busy and full of colour to attract my target audience. This will appeal to my
target audience the same way my other advert does. They’re attracted to
colour and healthy things and this is exactly what the advert shows. Especially
because it is an animation and it is moving it will catch their eye whilst on a
website.
I did the same decide but changed it so it was a landscape banner instead.
This also works well with the same image, although it looks like the can is in
air. This still works well but I do not think it is as good as the portrait one, I
think it fits together and will look better up right and portrait for the animation.
Task 8: Web Banner DevelopmentMy second idea was of both of the cans on 1 advert to advertise both
flavours. I originally thought of them looking like they were sat on a
table reflecting the drink and them placed on the right, as you can see
from the image and the slogan next to them and name of the drink
above. I thought that this didn’t look right because of the different
colours. It was hard to do both drinks in one advert because they’re
both targeted at a different audience and the colours contrast each
other. So I decided to make it so they were both in the middle and the
title and slogan was above the drinks. I made the background a much
lighter blue because the darker blue looked too harsh and it didn’t work
with the ‘twist’ can. I like this advert because it is a lot more simple then
my others and it is different. It still fits in with the audience but it doesn’t
really have the fun and creative side to it that I have on all of my other
adverts. It looks professional and real but I prefer my first idea because
it is more creative. The animation on this web banner would be that the
Toucan title and slogan would ‘bulge’ onto the page every so often, so
this would attract the audience’s attention to look at it.
The animation on this web banner was done by removing the visibility of
the text on the first frame and the having a very low opacity on the next
frame and the increasing the opacity slightly frame by frame so that
when you play the animation it shows the text appearing on the page.
This worked well because it was quick and easy but still looks effective
and will attract the audience.
I do prefer the animation on my first idea because it suits more
audience more and is more creative, however I have wanted to make a
simple version of everything to see if it looks more professional.
For my second web
banner design I wanted
to do a different shaped
and size one to my first.
This one is called square
button and is 125x125
pixels.
The design I imagined fit
on it really nicely
because it was just big
enough and there isn’t a
lot of white space that
looks like it needs filling.
I like the simplicity of this
design and the reflection
of the drinks.
Task 8: Final Web Banner
I could of made it a lot better and smoother but
this would of taken a lot of time. However I do
like the way it looks and I think
that the target audience
would be interested in
buying the drink if they
saw this web banner
pop up.
Task 8: Web Banner Evaluation
The first thing I needed to do was turn of the layer visibility on everything off except from the
can and the text so that on the first frame they were the only things that were showing. I
needed to add more layers before I started to create the frames because the water didn’t
look realistic whilst coming out of the can, which means I needed to break up the water, this
meant that I had to use a fair few frames so that I could have the different parts of water
going up on separate frames so it moved more smoothly. I used a feather whilst breaking up
the water so it looked more real and less harsh. After I did this I added a frame and
changed the visibility to ‘on’ on the first bit of water and fruit to on. I gradually placed the fruit
in on each slide as well so that it looked like it was coming up with the water, which was
difficult to make look realistic but I think it looks fairly good. I repeated these steps until I
turned all the visibility to everything on. I made it so that there was no delay
so that it ran as smoothly as possible, however on the last slide I changed it
to 5 seconds so that it didn’t play straight from the end, it had a
5 second gap. I think if I spent more time on it
What are the technical qualities of your work? The technical qualities of my work is the fruit coming out of the top of my can because this took
a lot of time and patience to cut up the water and slowly show the water coming out of the can.
It took me a lot of time to complete which was needed because if it was rushed then it would not
of worked because it wouldn’t of run together as smoothly as it does.
Task 8: Web Banner Evaluation
What are the aesthetic qualities of your work? The aesthetic qualities of my work are how it looks to the audience, I wanted the adverts to look
more fun and creative, because the healthy energy drinks that already exist look like they’re
target at females and probably an older generation that is interested in a healthier energy drink.
My target audience of male and females ages 16-25 do not have an existing energy drink that is
popular and healthy. This energy drink I wanted to make fun and look really appealing to
become popular with this target audience.
I wanted to make it animated because I think these adverts are more popular, especially to
ones that are young of age because whilst they’re browsing on the internet the first thing that
catches your eye is a moving giff, this makes you look at watch to see what it does. Which
makes me think that mine will be very popular especially to my audience because they will
definitely look to see what it is if it is on the web page they’re on, therefore they will want to click
on it to check it out if they like the advert.
A still web banner is not as appealing because it does not catch your eye, which makes you not
even glance at it because sometimes they’re full of spam anyway, but whilst they move you’re
immediately drawn to look at it.
My last frame lasts 5 seconds long so that it does not involve to much movement, this is
sometimes a very bad thing because if there is too much it can annoy someone to the stage of
them getting annoyed at the advert, therefore not been interested in the product. The twitter and
facebook icon at the bottom will also encourage them to go have a look at the twitter and
facebook pages that the company has.
The advert is not very busy but still creative. With this particular advert (web banner) I wanted to
balance out the busyness and creativity so that the advert isn’t too annoying and ‘in your face’
which can put the audience of taking a look at it. The simple bright blue background is essential
for this advert so that it still looks bright and colourfull but not so much that it is drawing the
attention away from the main aspects of the advert, which is the can and the fruit and drink
bursting out of it.
Are there opportunities for further development of your
work?
I could of developed my work further by breaking down the water even more then I
had originally done. The piece was originally 3 images of water put together, then I
broke it down into 10, but I think I could of done this more because when they’re
shown together in the animation it doesn’t run as smoothly as I would like it to,
even though I tried my best. But If I had an opportunity for further development I
would try more to break it up and see if it fits together better then it originally did.
Another think I could try for further development is actually showing the fruit
coming from the can to the top of the water and try It this way instead of showing
the fruit gradually across the animation. This way it would look more realistic and
make it show that the water and fruit are actually bursting out of the can instead of
just appearing onto the page. I didn’t know how to do this, but if I had more time I
would try it out this way and combine both to see if overall it worked out better.
I think I could do this by using the tweens animation button and place the fruit
behind the can and then into the position I want it to be, this way by using this tool
it should create the frames in between of where the fruit will put and if I create a lot
of frames it will make the fruit move a tiny bit in each frame so when I play it in no
delay it should run very smoothly.
Task 8: Web Banner Evaluation
What areas of planning and development worked well? The planning and development worked well because it gave me chance to change around my
original adverts so that they still had the same look and theme as each other but were different in
certain ways. For example my first advert was busy and had a busy background and had water
splashing out of the can, which made me want to animate this as a web banner but to a much
smaller scale. I also wanted the web banner to be very tall at the side of the page because these
are usually the ones that get noticed from my point of view, but because this is a odd shape it
gave me a limited amount of space to fit pictures on, however because I wanted to stick with the
idea of fruit bursting out the top of the can I still had room to do this. I had a lot of time to develop
this, which made me spend time thinking of how I could fill the banner page, so I thought that it
would look better if I changed the water so that it was bursting all the way up the banner, which
means I had to get more water and stretch it up the banner and also more fruit to fill out the water.
I think my actual idea worked really well and is different from most web banner adverts I have
seen of drinks, usually it is the image that is still and the writing that is moving and more text
appears on screen, however mine is the text that is still and is the image moving, I myself find this
more interesting and I think the audience will agree and be more attracted to mine because of
this.
Are your final pieces are fit for purpose?I liked the idea of making the adverts and banners similar because it fit in with everything else I
had done which made them all link into one theme and one product, which I think is easily
recognisable because of the set colour theme, fonts and the way that the adverts are laid out and
presented. I also like how I developed the can bursting into an animation that was similar to my
original advert ideas but still different because it was more water and went further up then the first
one I did.
The can itself fits in with this advert as well because it is blue and has fruit all around it with water.
People that are already familiar with this drink will know straight away from the can that it is an
advert for that drink, which is what I wanted to interpret. This is a really good and useful
technique to use with products because when it becomes recognisable it becomes popular. For
example to logo of Red Bull ‘the bulls’ are recognised even when they are not placed with the title.
Task 8: Web Banner Evaluation
What areas of planning and development could have done with more
work? From developing I used the water from the first advert I did because I like the splash effect it was making
because it looked realistic and was the look I was going for and used it for the top of the web banner. I then
found more pictures of water ‘bursting out fast’ and put them below the one I had already used. After I had to
screen them so that the background disappeared and it looked more realistic like it was actually coming out of
the can.
I had to break up the water individually myself because they were not my own images which tool some time, this
section of my production could of done with more work because If I had more time to do this I would do it with
pictures I had taken of water myself, this would have made it work out better because I could have taken a lot of
individual photographs and put them together, then when it came to doing the animation it would have been
easier and looked more realistic by the different stages of water coming out of the can.
What effect did you think your development stages had on the final
product? The development stages on this particular advert were different from the other adverts I had done. It was a lot
harder to produce this one and it was hard to make changes, because if you made a change you would have to
start from the beginning again which I could only do 3 times before I ran out of time. This particular advert needs
a lot of planning and work doing before you start the animation, I changed my mind a few times and had to go
back to alter some work and had to start the animation again, whereas with the other adverts if I wanted to
change the layout around it was easy and if I had a new idea I could start from scratch but use the main aspects
of the advert like the font and can in the new idea.
The web banner definitely needs more time and planning to complete then the other adverts. The overall effect it
had on the final product was good in some ways because it linked in with all the other adverts and the can itself,
but it could of done with a lot more work to it.
Task 8: Web Banner Evaluation
What effect did you think your development stages had on the final product?
Both Breeze and Twist worked with the animation really nicely, they’re the same except from the
colours because the colours match the colour scheme of that flavour. I wanted them to do exactly the
same so when people recognise it they will click to see why the colours are different and they will then
know that there is a new flavour ‘twist’.
The development stages also helped me make my product like existing ones because when I was
happy with what I produced I looked to see what existing ones look like and made slight adjustments to
mine to make it look as professional as possible, for example I altered the actual movement slightly to
make it better.
Web banners are usually colourful and bright to catch your eye, for example the web banner at the
bottom of the page. I think mine achieves this and even more so because it is a moving animation. I like
that there is a stroke and shadow on the web banner at the bottom because it helps the text to stand
out more, which mine was lacking, I think to improve mine I would make the text bigger and stronger
with a dropped shadow.
Task 9: Storyboard development
This is the first advert idea I came up with and it involves people hiking through a rainforest with a lot of nature and
tree’s around them, they all become very tired and sit on a rock as you can see in the second panel. The man then
gets out his energy drinks from his bag and hands them to everyone, once they take a sip they’re no longer tired and
can carry on their journey. The last panel shows the Toucan and introduces the drink.
I like this advert idea because it shows the Toucan and is quite tropical because of the rainforest. However the thing
that is not so good about this advert is that it doesn’t reflect on the audience that well. I do not think that it would
attract their attention which is essential with a TV advert otherwise people can switch the channel. The advert doesn’t
involve music either which I think is essential with my target audience.
Task 9: Storyboard development
I created this storyboard on Strip Generator. I created it on this to give a simple look on what my advert would look like before I
found stock images to see more realistically what it would look like on the TV, this was to see where I would place the people on
the advert.
On the first panel I placed a ‘DJ deck’ with someone behind it, which represents Oliver Heldens performing, which is why I have
added faded music notes to imply that there is music playing in the advert.
The second panel includes someone
having a drink, which will be
realistically someone opening a can
of ‘Toucan’ and drinking it whilst
they’re at the festival. And the last
panel is just the advert introducing the
drink.
I think this is a good advert idea
because it shows that the festival is
sponsored by the drink and it also
clearly states the target audience in
the advert because it shows young
people having fun at a festival, which
the audience will get attracted to
when it comes on TV because this is
the kind of thing they’re interested in,
and once they’re drawn to the advert
they will see the drink appear and it
will be remembered.
I think this idea is better then my first
because it will attract the audience
more with the music because this will
immediately grab their attention. I
think this advert will be a lot more
beneficial.
I created another version of my idea on Photoshop using stock
images and my actual product packaging to give it a more realistic
look and show what it would actually look like on the advert more
then the first simple storyboard.
The second one looks like it suits my target audience more because
the first one was black and white which wasn’t really interesting which
made me think the advert might not be, by creating it with stock
images and giving it a bit of colour and making it look more toward
the advert I am thinking of showed me that it would actually look good
on TV and does fit in with my target audience.
I used different pictures to decide what I wanted my advert to look like
more, because even though they are the same thing they involve
different colours. I liked the second one I did because I like how you
can see the can been held in the audience. However I prefer the
colours of the first one because it looks more tropical and summery.
Task 9: Storyboard development
I put both storyboards together to make It longer and more detailed. The advert itself is
actually short but the first storyboard draft I did didn’t actually show every part of what was
going to happen on the advert and this storyboard does and explains it.
The advert will only be about 40-60 seconds long.
This storyboard shows my intention more when it is longer, otherwise it only shows a little
bit and shows a bit of an understanding on what I am trying to achieve. Making it longer has
given a much clearer view on the advert idea.
Task 9: Storyboard development
Are there opportunities for further development of
your work? There are many opportunities for further development in my work. I could of
redone the storyboard myself on Photoshop and rotascoped images to
make my own. This would have left me with a much more detailed
storyboard and made it more clear of what my intentions would have been
for the advert, because I would have been able to place the can wherever
and the people wherever, but instead I used stock images of what the advert
would have been like and made it as near to my idea as possible, which
worked well but would have been better to do my own images if I had more
time. In the second panel you can see someone drinking Toucan but there
is no background to go behind it, which Is what I could of produced when
rotascoping.
I could of also made the storyboard longer so that you could of seen about 3
seconds of the advert in each panel but I narrowed it down slightly so I only
did 5 panels. Which would have been about 6 seconds each, which only
shows one picture. With it been longer it would of showed more of the
advert idea I had in the storyboard, which I think the current storyboard
lacks. It would have been better if I did it exactly to my intention, like I was
actually producing the advert. If I had longer time to do this I would do both
further development ideas to create a much clearer view of what I would
want my TV advert to be.
I could of developed my first advert more by using stock images, so this
would have left me with a clearer idea of what it would of looked like so their
was a fair comparison of both ideas for me to choose which one was better.
Although I still do think that the second advert idea is more linked in with my
audience.
Task 9: Storyboard Evaluation
Are your final pieces are fit for purpose?I think my final piece is fit for purpose because it fits in with my target
audience very well as it is aimed at an audience that is outgoing and fun
who are interested in festivals and things like this. Showing a festival in
the advert immediately catches the attention of the audience the drink is
aimed at, which makes them watch the whole advert and then at the end
becomes introduced with the drink, which makes them interested in the
drink.
The TV advert involves fun, colour, music and famous people which is
good for any advert to do, because when there is celebrity endorsement
people are interested In what they’re advertising, some people that are
not even in the target audience. All the factors in my TV ad will benefit the
target audience.
The advert itself also goes with every other advert and production I have
produced for this can, they all contain the same factors of fun and colour
and also keeping the theme tropical which I think is really good because it
helps the audience remember to product which makes it become very
popular. By keeping the same font, colour scheme and theme it allows an
audience to recognise the product even by just seeing the font or the
colours. The end panel of the storyboard is a good example of this
because it contains the colours that are in every other part of my
production so if you saw this slide on TV and saw any of the other adverts
you will link them together straight away.
Task 9: Storyboard Evaluation
What areas of planning and development worked well? The planning of this TV advert went well because I had already come up with 2 ideas whilst doing the copy/script
development and wrote them down, when I went to review them I came up with more visual ideas of which I came
up with the images on the mood board and when I had done that I had to place them into a storyboard and make
it more visual for someone to understand my intention. Overall the planning worked out really well because of me
planning far in advance and because it was my last task I could combine my ideas and finished production to
make them all link together really well.
The development stages didn’t work as well due to me not having enough time to complete the storyboard of how
I wanted it to look. With further development this could have worked out a lot better.
What I like about planning so far ahead is that I came up with the theme and then came up with the advert idea
but producing the storyboard last was very good because after I completed the other adverts I had the right colour
scheme in mind and theme so I could incorporate this into my final storyboard for the TV ad which worked nicely.
In the other adverts I had placed a hideout logo at the bottom of them so when it came to the TV advert I could
actually show the audience a clip from hideout. When the audience see the drink they link it to hideout festival and
when the audience see the hideout festival logo they will also remember it been in the advert and on the
magazine adverts.
Task 9: Storyboard Evaluation
What areas of planning and development could have done with more work? The areas of development that could of done with more work is the length of the storyboard, I could have
developed it so that it was longer to show more of my idea and the advert in the storyboard. I could have
developed the images into my own rota scopes so I could have added more images into one panel, if I did this
without rotascoping they would have not fitted together and would have looked out of place. If I had more time I
would of done this with both storyboard ideas to see which one I liked the most.
I could have planned my time better so I had enough time to do this because it would of worked better overall for
the right clear view of my advert idea. I could of done this by writing down how long it would take to do something
and then figured out how much time I had to do everything. Which would of given me an idea of where I could of
cut out time for some parts.
What effect did you think your development stages had on the final product? The development stages on this part of the project (the TV advert) were lacking a lot more then the development stages on all the
other adverts and production, it still has a good effect on the final product because it still links in with the colour schemes and fits
with the overall images but I think with more time and production it could have fit in a lot better and worked nicely with the final
product.
The development stages on the other production pieces I have done helped with the overall effect of the final product because I
kept on developing until I was happy with everything and then developed to make everything link in with each other, which helped
with my final storyboard piece because I had my set colour scheme from my other adverts and I had a certain ‘look’ to everyth ing.
All the adverts and production at the bottom visually work really well together and because I have been consistent with the colour
scheme and fonts, which makes them recognised as the same product. Although they are not very similar there is a good balance
of similarity, because the are not all to much the same, I think when this happens it is to repetitive and boring, the audience will get
bored of seeing exactly the same thing everywhere, however mine include some of the same things/similar things but are different
in there own ways. The colour of the magazine advert for twist is very orange and if I could change this I would make it more pink
like the web banner because I think it takes the attention away from the can when it is the same colour. Although I think this is
different from the blue can ‘breeze’ because the light blue works well with the brighter blue.
