DESCRIPTION 1

The general picture structure and form

The picture is black and white and the col-

ors are pretty contrasted and dark. On the

background there are some hardwood trees,

leafy bushes and a grey sky. In the middle

of the photo there are two young girls,

children, standing on the grassy ground

which also has a lot of leaves. The picture

is vertical and pretty narrow. The girls

are looking directly at the camera and are

very close to each other, almost holding

hands. You can see the girls completely,

and it’s not a snapshot but a clearly pose

picture.

The subject

There are two young girls, about the same

age of 11-13, standing and looking directly

at the camera. They look very polished and

formal. The girl standing on the left is

shorter than the other girl, and she has

blonde, long braided hair tied on down with

greyish ribbons, a black, a jacket that

stops on the knees and has 2 buttons which

are all closed, white tights and black bal-

lerinas. She’s standing with her legs to-

gether. The taller girl, who’s standing on

the right side, has the same clothes but in

different colors. Her jacket is a little

over the knee, grey and has four buttons

(closed) and her tights are black, so are

her shoes. Her hair is also braided but

brown. Her legs aren’t together but more

open. They have similar facial expressions

and look pretty serious and grim, kind of

like they’d be looking at the sun and

squinting their eyes, but they don’t look

angry or anything. They are shown in a neu-

tral, more positive way.

The light

The lighting isn’t really anything special,

just a natural light you’d see outside on a

normal, cloudy day. It comes from every-

where but mostly from the front and above.

I’d say that the shades aren’t a big part

of the photo.

The atmosphere

The atmosphere is pretty neutral to me. Maybe

it’s a bit serious and kind of anxious because

of the girl’s looks, but I feel calm. The girls

are shown in a more positive than negative way

as said before but are pretty neutral.

The image is horizontal. The photo is taken from the front. In the centre of the image there is a little girl walk-

ing on the beach near the sea. The sky is beautiful and the sand is grayish brown. The sun is setting and to the right side of the picture and the shadow of the girl reaches the left side. There is no artificialal light.

The girl is wearing a red christmas wrapper on her like a coat and a silver christmas decoration ribbon wrapped around her. The

wind makes the christmas wrapper sway on the left side

She has also striped christmassy pantyhose and grey socks but no shoes. She is dragging a small christmas tree or one branch of

it behind her. She is looking slightly to the left (sea). She has been walking a long time, the footprints and dragging marks

are visible on the beach. The image makes me think of Christmas.

The general picture structure and form

The picture is black and white and it mostly con-

sists of different shades of grey. The back-

ground is all pitch-black making it clear and

dark. The picture is almost twice as high as it

is wide and in the middle is a young man standing

sideways to the camera. He fills the majority of

the picture. Only his right side is showing. The

bottom of this picture cuts his legs so we only

see his upper body.

The subject

The young man is wearing a t-shirt with rolled up

sleeves. He also has jeans on with a simple belt.

The whole clothing is on the darker side. The

man’s posture is slightly slouched. His hand is

bending a little forward at his side and his head

and eyes are turned a little bit to the right.

His gaze is piercing.

The light

The light comes from the bottom left corner of

the picture making only the man’s left side

lighted. The shadows create a dark and mysterious

finish.

The atmosphere

In my opinion the man is somewhat kind looking

but at the moment he is annoyed by something.

There is some kind of tension in the picture and

although it is a portrait, it looks like a snap-

The photo is black and white and it has a

young girl in it. The background is pitch

black. The shades are pretty contrasted and

dark. The photo is vertical and 123 X 98 CM.

The girl looks directly at the camera and you

can see her upper half, so from the legs up.

She’s standing in the middle of the photo. The

picture is not a snapshot but posed.

The subject

The young girl in the picture is about 11-13

years old. She has a long, blonde hair that’s

sort of wavy and her hair is open on a side

part. She has a black sweater that almost

blends to the background. There’s a Finnish

scout neckerchief around her neck. She looks

serious. Her eyes are big and mouth closed and

she looks tired, maybe a bit curious and she

has no makeup on. She doesn’t look particular-

ly neat or untidy, she’s in the middle. She’s

shown in a neutral way.

The light

The left side of the picture is more in shade

than the right one, so the light source is on

the right side. This is why the black sweater

almost blends to the background. The shades or

lighting doesn’t really do anything special,

just that it comes from the right side.

The atmosphere

The atmosphere is neutral and more positive

than negative. As said before the girl seems

curious and serious her face is neutral, but

it really depends on the person how the atmos-

phere feels like.

The picture is in black and white.

The picture is vertical. The person

is standing the person facing the

camera. You can see the person en-

tirely, He fills around 1/20th of the

photo. There are people walking in

the background, the picture takes

place in a train station and there is

a train on the left side of the per-

son. The photograph is more of a snap

-shot.

The subject

A male who is in his late 20’s he’s

looking at the camera and he’s wear-

ing a beanie, some gloves, shoes, a

jacket, a backpack and khaki pants.

He doesn’t seem to be showing any

emotions he just has a blank stare.

The man doesn’t seem well-presented

he’s not that neat.

The light

The light is coming for multiple

places, there’s light coming for the

roof where there is many light bulbs

and also far from behind him. The

light is natural and spread out.

Darkness is not an important part of

the picture.

The atmosphere

The atmosphere and mood of the photo

is very boring and you get sort of a

daily feeling for it, everybody just

going about there day. The emotion

he’s showing is just nothing, it’s

just like a resting face. The picture

doesn’t give really any emotion it

doesn’t make you feel sad, angry or

happy it’s very bland.

The image is horizontal, not much wider than the height. It is taken on a winding staircase. The colours on the

walls are mostly pale green(ish). The walls and the stairs look worn out and the wooden stairs are pale blue.

There is also a window. You can see a piece of stairs and some trees. through it. The window frame is white but the

paint is worn out. The staircase is well lit and the house is quite old.

The light is coming from the window.

On the stairs is sitting a young woman. Her hair is tied in ponytail.She is probably a cleaner or some kind of do-

mestic help. She is wearing a blue gown and white apron, white socks and sandals (like nurses use). On her left side

on the stairs is a plate. There’s a toast with cheese, ham and boiled eggs on it. She is sitting on the stairs with

her back turned towards the viewer. She is reading a book, having her lunch break.

Picture is black & white.

Background is darker than people in the

front.

Orientation: landscape, slightly wider than

high

Figures are positioned near the camera in

my opinion.

Two boys are looking at the camera. The

other boy is leaning in the other boy.

Background is forest (maple leaves and

spruce (spar in Dutch) branches, the ground

is full of hay.

Photograph is posed.

The subject

Two males, boys aged 12-13

Both are looking at the camera

The boy on left is wearing a grey shirt and

the other boy is wearing a chequered shirt.

The boy on the left is looking proud. The

boy on the right is looking bit sad. Both

are looking cool (not unkept).

Both boys are standing up next to each oth-

er. The boy on the left is holding the oth-

er boy´s head on his chest. The boy on the

right is leaning in the other boy.

So that the right hand of the boy on the

left is under the other boy´s chin and his

left hand is on the other boy’s left tem-

ple. The hands of the boy in the right are

on his thighs.

The light

The light is coming from the right. Light

is warm and it´s natural. In the picture´s

background on the right there is little

light but the left corner is dark.

The atmosphere

It seems awkward feeling in the picture.

The boys are bit strange. I don’t know why

he´s holding his head, what has happened

and why.
