Jacob Chapman was born at Staunton VA about 1755 and died inwhat is now Nicholas County WV between 1840 and 1850. Jacob went to Greenbrier County VA by 1771 and acquiredconsiderable land. He served in the militia at different timesduring the American Revolution and later received a veteran'spension. He was one of the rescue party that relieved Donally'sFort in Greenbrier County when it was attacked by Indians in May1778. He married Margaret Burns June 16, 1779. Margaret wasprobably a daughter of the James Burns who was killed during theattack on Donally's Fort. By 1797, the family had moved to what is now Nicholas CountyWV, but Jacob kept one parcel of land in Greenbrier County until1819.
