Descendants of Henry Tyler Generation No. 1 1. HENRY TYLER was born Abt. 1620 in Shropshire, England, and died Abt. 1672 in York 1 County,VA. He married (1) MARY in England. She was born Abt. 1615 in England, and died Abt. 1653. He married (2) ANNE ARMSTEAD ORCHARD Abt. 1658. She was born Abt. 1628 in England, and died April 2, 1679 in York County,VA. Henry Tyler of Shropshire, England was one of three brothers who settled in VA, MA, and CN.Henry, settled in Charles City, VA in 1652. In Vol. III, of the Virginia Land Register is the recordof a Patent in Henry Tylers name dated Jan 7, 1652, locating 254 acres in Middle plantation, VA,due to him by and for transporting to this colony six persons. Henry is a descendant of Wat Tyler,according to G.C. Greer in his "Early Virginia Immigrants".

Notes for HENRY TYLER:

Henry's mother, Ann, had remarried after his father's death leaving the step-father to finallyexecute his fathers will. In 1690, Henry and his borther John filed a petition in York Court torequire Martin Gardner, to divide between them the property left by their mother to their brotherDaniel, who had been carried off by the Turks to Algiers and had not been heard of for sevenyears. Henry Tyler leased his fathers land at Middle plantation to Martin Gardner in return for oneman servant and a house to be built.

Henry Tyler qualified as Sheriff, April 10, 1700 and again in 1702, he was Coroner in 1703, andSheriff again in 1705.

An order in York Court dated June 25, 1683, mentions Henry Tyler as having married ElizabethChiles, daughter of Walter Chiles and granddaughter of Lt. Col.Walter Chiles. Elizabeth's motherwas the daughter of John Page but there is no record of her name. But Col. John Page left a

Elizabeth was a daughter of Mr. Walter Chiles and granddaughter of Lt. Col. Walter Chiles, hermother is thought to be the daughter of John Page but her name is unknown. Elizabeth may havedied giving birth to her last child.

In his father Henry's will, it states, To John my grandchild, son of John Tyler deceased, and hisdaughters Joanna, Elizabeth, Mary and Edith, each of them a young negro of value 10 poundsmoney.

John was a student at William and Mary College in 1704. Under the will of John Page, who wasthe father of his grandmother, he was given a tract of land in the Powhattan swamp, James cityand a legacy of fifty pounds.

In 1721, his negro slave, Priamus, was injured while firing the "great guns" on the aniversary ofhis majesty's coronation and John was paid 16 pounds sterling.

-1800 NC, Sampson county Census lists Needham as head of household and 1 male between 16 -26 yrs old, 1 female between 10 - 16 yrs old, 1 female over 45yrs old, and 1 male over 45yrs old.This must be Needham and his wife and two children. Moses Tyler his oldest child is listed in the1800 Census as head of household, so we have to assume that Needham and his wife had Owenstill at home and a female child.

JOHN TYLER WAS THE 10TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. He was born atGreenway, the family plantation on the James River about 30 miles SE of Richmond, VA. At age12 he entered the grammar school division of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg.He was graduated at 17 and studied Law. He was 6 feet tall, with blue eyes and brown hair. In1813 John married Letitia Christian and they had eight children. Letitia had a stroke and becamean invalid and died in the White house. 2 years later John married Julia Gardiner. They had sevenchildren. John Tyler was the first president to be married while in office, and the most prolifichaving 15 children.

John Tyler was elected as Vice president in 1840 and served only one month then he became
