are from the family Bible kept in the possession of Carrie Isabell Lee after the death of her

In the community in which he lived he was called on a lawyer, doctor and general advisor.

He owned a farm on Caney Fork River. He bought the "Old Hotel" at Smithville, TN from

David James (it was built by a stock company in 1837). James Madison Lee was living there

when he died. He went down on Caney Fork to get some seed sweet potatoes and died there

suddenly with a congestive chill.


James married Elizabeth Howard Terry daughter of Roland Terry and Mary Watkins

31. Zebulon Pike Lee (James Madison, Barnett Philander) was born on 29 Mar 1843 in

Jackson County, TN. He died on 14 Oct 1912 in Nashville, Davidson, TN. He was buried

in Cookeville City Cemetery, Cookeville, Putnam, TN.

Z P Lee enlisted in Co C, 23rd TN Infantry, CSA. He was shot in the right knee at the Battle of

Chickamauga (GA) on 20 September 1863. His right leg was amputated above the knee. He


was the County Court Clerk of Dekalb County, TN serving 3 terms, 1878 to 1886 and again

from 1890 to 1894.

Capt. Z. P. Lee died at his home in Nashville Monday morning at 9:45, Oct. 14, 1912. Capt. Lee was 69

years of age and is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. R. L. Jennings of Stateville, Mrs.

Frank Richmond of Cookeville, Dr. Harry Lee of Spivey, Mrs. R. E. Potter of Cookeville, Mrs. J. C. Read of

Pueble, Col., Portia Lee of Monterey, Mrs. C. W. Carrol of Chicago, Mrs. Nora Leee (sic) Jones and R. E.

Lee of Nashville. Prayers were held at the residence Monday evening, at 7:30 o'clock by Dr. G. A. Lofton.

The remains were forwarded to Smithville, Tenn., over the Tennessee Central Railroad Tuesday morning.

Capt. Lee lived in Cookeville for several years where he has many friends who will regret to hear of his

death.

Zebulon married Virginia Francis Atwell daughter of John B Atwell and Martha F

Smithson on 21 Mar 1869 in Smithville, Dekalb, TN. Virginia was born on 26 Mar 1847 in

TN. She died on 15 Jun 1914 in Cookeville, Putnam, TN at the home of her daughter,

Obituary of James Howard Lee from the Celina Record, Celina, Texas:

James Howard Lee, 75, died Monday morning in the Wilson N. Jones Hospital in

Sherman, where he had been a patient since Friday. He had been in ill health for

several years.

Mr. Lee was born August 5, 1875 in Tennessee, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lee,

but had lived in Texas 58 years, in Celina for 17 years. He was married to Miss Mattie

Stiles of Weston in 1903. Mr. Lee was a member of the First Christian Church and of

the W. O. W.

Survivors include the wife and the following children: Mrs. Billie Jo Perry and Mrs.

Gertrude Cozart, both of Dallas; Mrs. Sudie Holmes, Melissa; Mrs. Mildred Rickerson,

Garland; Mrs. Leona Fuller, Kokomo, Ind.; Mrs. Tommie Wilson and Doyle Lee of

Celina; two brothers, Rush Lee and Ira Lee of Celina, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the First Christian Church

with Rev. Ray Bristol and Rev. C. B. Garrett officiating. Interment was in Cottage Hill

cemetery under the directon of Helms Funeral Home. Pallbearers were W. C. Miller,

Bennie Brewer, B. E. O'Brien, Fay Smith, Paul George, and Clint Carey.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 4:00 p. m. in the Cottage Hill Methodist Church

for Rush Lee, 70, Celina man who died in a Sherman hospital at 12:12 p. m. Saturday,

July 24.

Conducting ministrers were the Rev. Kenneth Thomas, pastor of the First Methodist

Church, Celina, and the Rev. W. J. Epting of Sherman, a former pastor of the First

Baptist Church, Celina. Interment was in Cottage Hill cemetery, directed by Helms.

Pallbearers were Clarence Webster, Leslie Jones, Lee Rucker, Carl Perry, Arnold

Ballard and Claud Loftice.

Mr. Lee was born in Tennessee April 10, 1884, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas

Lee, and moved to Texas in 1901. He was a retired farmer. On March 26, 1905 Mr.

Lee and Miss Elsie Callahan were married. She died on March 13, 1922. On Sept. 9,

1924 he was married to Miss Mertice Holbrook, who survives. He was a member of

Methodist Church. Surviving children of his first marriage include five sons, L. H. Lee,

Cisco, Texas; Frank A. Lee, Kansas City, Mo.; Earl M. Lee, Fort Worth; Guy Lee,

Dallas, and Lewis Marshall Lee, Charleston, S. C. Two children died in infancy. Also

surviving in addition to his wife are four grandchildren and one brother, Ira Lee, Celina.
