On this occasion, the 50 th Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan was commemorated. Thank you to Liz Johnstone, Erin Bell and Kylie Carr for taking part in the day. Students behaved extremely well during this ceremony and we were very pleased that Ned and Maxs grandfather was able to join us for the day as a Vietnam Veteran himself. On Wednesday, the Agricultural class attended a whole day excursion at Marcus Oldham, where they were able to explore various pathways in the agricultural field. Yesterday, the Defence Force presented to Year 7-10 about possible careers within the army. On a sporty note, the Olympics have been enjoyed by all at recess and lunchtime in the library. Thanks to our very own champion, Rod Rantall, we were able to have a first class display of his Australian team clothing and medals in the foyer. Rod played Badminton for Australia on many occasions and his achievements include winning a Silver medal in Guatemala during the Para World Championship in 2011, a Bronze medal in Germany in 2011 and multiple other medals for the World Masters, the Pancific Masters and the TeachersGames. Teaching and Learning wise, we are starting to unpack the Framework for the Improvement of Student Outcomes (FISO) and our first focus is Building Excellence in Teaching and Learning. We are also actively preparing for our school review which will encompass student, staff and parent consultation. On Monday, the leadership team had a planning day to allow for review preparation and an action plan. Earlier this week, I attended the PrincipalsForum in Ballarat where we talked about implementing the new Victorian Curriculum and Building Practice Excellence. We also considered how to further promote a culture of collaboration and collective responsibility and also heard from Greg Cameron on Collective Efficacy. We were also introduced to the Marrung Aboriginal Educational Plan 2016-2026. On Wednesday we farewelled Kylie Carr who has worked at our school for the past two and a half years. Kylie has introduced Multilit to our school with great success and she also worked with one of our students in an Integration Aide capacity. We wish Kylie all the best in her new role at Smythesdale PS. Finally, I would like to pass on our condolences to our Music teacher and her family, Melanie Pocknall, as her mum passed away suddenly on Tuesday. Meryl Pocknall (nee Miller) was one of the very first School Prefects in 1963 and she was key in organising the 50 year Reunion in 2013, which she handled with passion and excitement. She held the school very close to her heart and was very pleased when Melanie began working with us. Our thoughts are with Melanie and her family. Marcus Oldham is an Agriculture University and is widely known for its successful graduates and courses. The University offers 3 different courses: Agribusiness, Agriculture and an Equine Course. Agribusiness focuses more on the management side of things and to get into the course you need to have at least 12 months practical experience in business preferably related to Agriculture. The Agriculture course mainly focuses on the production side of the agriculture industry and to get into the course you have to have at least 12 months practical experience on a farm. Both Agribusiness and Agriculture courses last 3 years to get your bachelor degree. The equine course has two streams: management/business and racing industry/breeding. Both courses have a requirement of at least a month of practical experience. The equine course lasts 10 months but is only a diploma. The Principal of the University, Dr Simon Livingstone, gave us a tour of the University and talked to us about the requirements for the courses and where they can take you. He also took us to the equine facilities and talked to us about the coaches they get in and past students that are currently at the Olympics. Thank you to Mr Moyle for organising the trip and to Marcus Oldham (Simon Livingstone) for showing us around and for teaching us about the pathways the university offers. By the 9/10 AG Class

Cows Create Careers Program The Year 9/10 students are learning all about the dairy industry through the Innovative Dairy Australia Program. The program involves students visiting dairy manufacturers and then going on to work in teams to develop their own dairy recipes for the program. The other participating schools are Warrnambool College, Terang College & Timboon P-12 College. This program provides students with a platform for introduction into the industry. Our students got very creative, developing and cooking their own desserts within the

program guidelines.

This year, Book Week will be held from August 22nd – August 26th. SRC will be holding a costume parade, where all students and staff are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character. The parade will be held on Monday 22nd August at 9am in the main foyer. A prize will be awarded to the best costume for each class. The teacher with the best costume will also receive an award.
