Suddenly, Derrick heard a loud groan.

p. 23 Clang! Clang! The dentists armor was very noisy as he climbed off his

horse.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Derrick stood still for a moment. He didnt want to make too much noisein case the giant heard him.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Derrick looked through the bushes and saw the mighty giant. He wassitting on a rock outside his cave.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The giant was resting his head on his hand.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

He looked very sad.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

To Derrick, the giant didnt look very dangerous at al l.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Oh well, thought Derrick, he looks harmless. Maybe Ill just go home,and he turned to leave.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

p. 24 CLANG! KACLANG! CLANG! Derricks armor was noisy again as he began

He had to be as quiet as possible not to disturb the giant. But it was toolate.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Whos there? roared the giant, in a loud, thundering voice._____________________________________________________________________________________

The little dentist stepped out from behind the bushes.

p. 26 The dentist pulled out his sword, but he immediately fell to the floor.

Wearing the armor and with the big heavy sword on top of him, the smallthin man couldnt get up quickly.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

p. 27 On the third try, the dentist managed to stand.

Trembling from head to toe, he held up the heavy sword as high as he

The heavy sword made Derrick shake inside his armor, creating a rattlingsound.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The giant burst out laughing. Hahahah! They sent you to kill me? heshouted.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A find joke, Im sure. But little man, the joke is on you. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The giant stepped forward and raised his fists, preparing to crush thedentist like an insect._____________________________________________________________________________________

Poor Derrick the dentist was frozen with fear.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

He couldnt run away because of the heavy armor.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

He was surely going to crush the little dentist.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Derrick hoped the armor would protect him from being squished like abug.

The giant stomped over to a tree and snapped it in half.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

He took one end of the tree and stuck it in his mouth like a toothpick.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The dentist looked around at the other fallen trees.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The all looked like giant toothpicks.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Derrick then realized that the giant had a toothache. A giant toothache!__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

p. 31 It was clear that the giant was in pain.

And the toothache explained why the giant never took anything when he

attacked the village. He just smashed things up because he was in so muchpain.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Thats a pretty bad toothache that you have, said Derrick the dentist. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Toothache ? cried the giant. Theres something stuck in my tooth. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

He sat there chewing on the tree-sized toothpick._________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It looks like a classi c case of toothache to me.

And what do you know about teeth anyway? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Oh, I know a lot about teeth, said the dentist.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ive treated peoples toothaches for years in my village. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I know your toothache is a lot bigger, but the problem is much the same. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Derrick had to reassure the giant that he wasnt trying to trick him, so the

dentist put down his sword.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Then derrick took off his helmet, too.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

He was very happy to put down the huge sword and even happier to takeoff the heavy, uncomfortable helmet.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The giant let out a half-hearted roar, but remained still.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

p. 34 The dentist climbed onto a rock and told the giant to pen his mouth.

The giants bad breath almost made the dentist faint.

The dentist looked into the giants mouth and found the problem. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

p. 37 As the dentist and the giant approached the village, they were met by a

Maybe the giant was mad that they had tried to send someone tokill him. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Run for your lives, cried the baker.
