11. Geology, geomorphology, lithology:-
Geology, geomorphology, lithology, mineral resource & district
resource map of Alwar is as under:-
Alwar district in the northeast bordering Haryana, covers an area
of 8380 km2. The district has ten tehsils namely Alwar,
Behror, Bansur, Ramgarh, Kishangarh Bas, Laxmangarh,
Mandawar, Rajgarh, Thanagazi and Tijara, falling in survey of india
degree sheets 54A, E and 53 D. Large area of the district , however,
falls in the degree sheet 54A and forms a part of the national capital
region. The Delhi – Ahmedabad and the phulera – rewari metre
gauge sections of the western railway are the network of metalled
and unmetalled roads in the district . alwar district is connected to
Delhi and jaipur by state Highway No. 21, semi arid to dry climate
prevalls in the area. the average annul rainfall is 577mm.
The district is characterized by a mature topography of more or less
fiat topped hills forming the northern continuation of main aravalli range.
Major part of the district is occupied by folded hill range which are
densely forested and host the famous Sariska Game Sanctuary. While the
eastern and northern, flood plain support intensive agriculture productions
making alwar an agriculturally prosperous district of Rajasthan.
The district comprises precambrain metamorphic and igneous
rocks, belonging to the mangalwar complex of the bhilwara supergroup
(Archaean) and Raialo, Alwar and Ajabgarh Groups, in ascending order
superposition, belonging to the Delhi super group (Lower to middle
proterozoic) and post. Delhi igneous intrusive auulvium and Aeolian
sediments mask the older formations. The mangalwar complex
comprising quartzite, mica schist, crystalline limestone, conglomerate
and granite occur as isolated exposures in the southern part. These are
unconformably overlain by the raialo group comprising a predominantly
calcareous formations with volcanic and subordinate quartzite. These lie
in the core part of regional folds, defined by the alwar groups of rocks.
The alwar group defining the main structural pattern of the area contains
a basal conglomerate and arkose quartzite unit followed by a sequence of
6
argillaceous and impure calcareous rocks. In the northem part, the alwar
group passes conformably into the Ajamgarh group, with the gradual
change from dominantly arenaceous facies to argillaceous facies. The
post – Delhi intrusive include sills and dykes of amphibolites plutons of
variable dimensions and pegmatite, plutons of granite of variable
dimensions and pegmatite. The rocks of the Delhi super groups are
affected by NNE – SSW trending large – scale folds and faults.

are located at number of places north of Kisangarh Bas (27-50 : 76-45).
Good quality marble occurs in jhiri – Rajgarh area. Marble from various
geologic horizon is also used for lime manufacture. Granite for use as
dimensional stone is located at Harsora (27-47 : 76-28), Samda (27-49 :
76-25), Dadikar (27-35 : 76-33) etc. The quartz – rich phyllite, schist and
sericitic quartzite popularly known as slab stone, provide excellent
building material. Some of the quartzites of the Ajabgarh Group in the
Bharkol (27-22 : 76-44) area are also used for the manufacture of
grinding stone and pots.
Copper:- Other well Known deposits of copper in alwar are at
Pratapgarh and Bhagoni which have been explored to various stages by
different agencies.
The Bhagoni copper deposit is located near village Tehla,
mineralization is concentrated along a calcite vein emplaced along the
bedding shears at the interface of quartz- biotite schist and amphibolites ;
Minetalisation found over a strike length of 1200 mt. The total indicated
and inferred reserves of copper ore are around 5.2 mt of 1.07 percent Cu .
Kho Dariba copper is located about 25 km. SSE of Sariska . The ore zone
10
is categorized by parallel concordant stringers within phyllites and also
disseminations in the quartzite with a total strike length of 3380 mt. The
total indicated and measured reserves are about 0.56 M.T. of an average
grade 2.46% CU.
Numerous old working and narrow shafts are distributed over
6 Km along NNE-SSW strike length near village Pratapgarh. Spordic
occurrences of copper have been reported from Kalajoda, Matasula
Baroud, Tatarpur, Gola ka Bas , Mothu etc.
Iron Ore:- Small low grade iron ore have its occurrences in several
localities of district. Mostly the deposits have lumps or soil of low grade
ore. It shows reddish brown or dark brown colour. On the basis of
physical character these deposits have hametite which is non magnetic.
Important localities for occurrences of iron ore are Purana
Rajgarh, Prempura, Bileta , Govindpura , Kyara, Bhangarh, Gopalpura
etc.
Barytes:- It is generally found associated with quartz veins.
Bhanhera deposits are the biggest in Alwar. Other prominent deposits are
located near village Bhurasidh, Thasoli, Pehal, Rawan Dera, Khora-
makrora, Sainpuri, Zahir ka Khera, Madhogarh, Bhagat ka Bas etc.
Soapstone and Pyrophyllite:- In alwar the quality of soapstone is
not very fair. Mostly it is of DDT grade. The significant occurrence are
located near village Sirawas, Rogda, Dhani Gjaran, Baodi, Bamanwas
samra, Natata, Bagore, Berla Nangal Chadel , Khora Karmali etc.
Clay:- Alwar has no rich deposits of clay but even than there are
few occurrences located near village Bagor, Baggad Meo & Khora
Karmali, Nagal Dharma, Dhamla ka Bas, Baoadi.
Silicasand:- Silicasand is produced by effect of weathering on the
medium grained quartzite rock. As a matter of fact the cementing or
11
binding material which binds the grained of silica are removed by the
effect of weathering , thus makes the grains free. It is observed generally
the grains of silica are coarser in the deposits of alwar district . It is found
in off white light brown and yellowish in colour . Some times it is used
after washing by which the impurity of iron and others can be removed.
The main deposits of silica sand are near villages Adhira,
Hamirpur, Khori, Rogda , Narayani Mata, Ghatra, Rajgarh, Baswa Gate,
Khora Karmali, Raipur etc.
Quartz and Felspar:- Quartz and Felspar are generally found in
pegmatite veins. In alwar region these minerals have their occurrences
but not found in sufficient quantity. Particularly felspar is found in very
less amount .
The occurrences of quartz have been reported from villages
Adhira , Rogda, Rata Khurd, Hamirpur , Tatarpur, Agar, Bisoni-
Kabligarh. Felspar is found in Tatarpur and Bisoni-Kabligarh area.
The quartz found in these above area is white , off white ,
milky white and light greyish and smoky colour. It is in general
semitransparent to translucent and mostly non crystllised.
Dolomitic Marble:- Among the minor minerals marble has vast
deposits in the district. In fact the rock is dolomitic marble with some
impurities of silica, iron etc. Mostly it is found in white, off white, light
grey, light brown colours and also shows the bands or different figures of
these colours. On the surface some times it shows the embedded needles
of acinolite and tremolite but generally they reduce in amount with depth.
In most of the deposits marble is hard and takes good polish
after cutting tiles and slabs .
Block ability of rock is the main problem . Irregular joins and
fractures make the rock poor in blockability . Even then , by the use of
wire saw blocks of 8’-10, x3’-4’x3’5’ can be excavated.
Deposits:-
12
A band of about 4 km in length and 500-600 mts in width has
been observed in tehsil thanagazi starting from kalsikala gwara in north
and upto Samra in the south.
This band included village Jhiri, Jagannathpura, and Dhani
Nijri and other locations in Thanagazi tehsil are Rupa ka Bas and Natata.
A band stretching from Mallana in the north and Baldeogarh
in the south has huge deposits of marble in Rajgarh tehsil in parts . This
band is about 8-10 kilomerters in length and on an average 0.75 to 1 km
in width . In these areas blockability is comparatively better . This band
includes the village Mallana, Gordhanpura, Tilwad, Tilwadi, Kho Palpur,
Berli, Toda Jaisinghpura, Gharta and Baldeogarh.
Slatestone:- The behror tehsil of district alwar is main producer of
slatestone in the state. There are huge deposits of slatestone in bands and
extend up neighboring parts of Haryana state. It is mostly exposed as
hills in the area but found sub surface also.
The slatestone which is a cleavable metamorphic rock has
different colours viz grey, greyish, green, purple, light brown and multi
colour. It can be excavated in 3’x2’, 2x2’, 1x1’ sizes.
There are some working leases in behror tehsil and most of
their production is exported to various countries.
The mining for slate is very easy and cheap . Mostly it is done
manually by using simple tools like chisel and hammer. Thin parting are
splitted with these tool by skilled laborers.
Deposits:-
Important localities of slatestone deposits are near village
Mandhan, Mehtawas, Ghilot, Khundroth, Khor-Basai, Sheodan,
Singhpura, Jakhrana.
The probable reserves of some deposits are as under:
(1) Mandhan - 68.25 M.T.
(2) Mehtawas - 33.75 M.T.
(3) Ghilot - 67.50 M.T.
(4) Khundroth - 34-35 M.T.
13
Granite:- Granite is an acid volcanic rock, because of its colours
and beautiful look it is used very commonly as building and decorative
stone. In alwar there are various location where granite deposits are
available in sufficient amount but its light colour and porohyritic texture
make some problem. Although the cut tiles take good polish but
generally dark colours are liked most.
The important localities for granite are Harsora, Devsan,
Chula , Khatoti, Samda, Tarwala, Liwari, Kirwari, Kankra.
Limestone:- It is sedimentary rocks, has calcium carbonate as main
constituent with minor impurities . It has various uses as per grade and
quality . Limestone deposits in alwar district have less Cao values,
therefore it is not found useful chemical industries.
It can only be used either for burning limestone for making
kali. The deposits are located near Dholan, Kuncha, Pai ka Guera, Berli ,
Asan, Palwa, Fatehpura, Shimbhu ka Bas, Bahali, Bigota in Berli area the
band of limestone extends in 1200 m x 100 m area.
Patti-Katla:- The term patti-katla is a local word which means a
building stone which can be used as flooring and roofing slabs. Generally
schist or schist stone quartzite is used as patti katla. There are few
locations where patti katla is found like , Sagar Jadid. Ulahedi, Ghata etc.
Masonary Stone:- As the population is increasing the demand of
masonary stone is also rising day by day. The trend of using R.C.C. in
construction also raised the demand .
In alwar region where delhi super group rocks are well
exposed, and these rocks are predominantly argillaceous. So quartzite is
the dominating rock unit in almost all the formations. It is frequently
used as masonary stone in this part. So availability of masonary stone in
alwar is no problem but most of hills comprising quartzite fall in forest
land.
14
Chert:- Occurrence of chert in district alwar is near village Saithli,
tehsil Ramgarh district Alwar. It is black in colour showing dim luster.
Only one lease of chert is sanctioned in the area.
Bajri:- Bajri as a result of sedimentation of sand in the river is
available mainly in Sabi river, Banganga river and Ruparail river.
Occurrence of Bajri is near village Behror, Sodawas, Harsora tehsil
Bansur and near village Ramgarh and Thanagazi etc.
