Before the first session, all the guests shared their opinions on the topic which holds relevance especially these days as we have come out of the heat of demonetization. Mr.Sriram Oberoi stressed on the dire need to have proper implementation of the current cyber laws in the country. He suggested that there needs to be an efficient online evaluation system for the students of the university, thereby reducing the chances of plagiarism. Prof. Vinay Gupta talked about the unparalleled advantages that the advanced technology offers these days and at the same time mentioned about the dark side of these fast-paced changes. This was followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sunaina Kanojia.

Then the first session commenced by Mr. Duggal renowned Supreme Court advocate. The session was initiated by Mr. Dipender Singh who was representing the Ministry. The lecture started with Mr. Duggal talking about the inappropriate usage of social media to gain popularity and how we as responsible citizens of this country are not paying any heed to the T&C of any application that we download these days. The discussion went ahead with the negative impact of using national e-wallets wherein the contact details of many girls were compromised and not only this many people had lost their money to hackers. He reminded us that this was not the act of a single person but an organized activity that is professional organised hackers taking the advantage of unregulated online payment system in India where nobody cares about the

level of security offered by the top e-wallets. Even there are some hackers who provide their services online. He talked about the two new types of online crimes that have emerged these days, which are ransomware, wherein the hacker hacks your computer/s and promises to unlock only after the payment of a certain sum of money, and cyber radicalization, a term which has often been associated with online recruitment by ISIS. Therefore, be cautious and do not vomit all your details online.

The second session by Mr. Rakshit Tandon was equally interactive and knowledgeable. He commenced the discussion with the national statistics and made us all realize how rapidly the number of reported online crimes have increased from 966 in 2010 to 11592 in 2014(NCRB records). The main areas where he laid utmost emphasis were cyber hygiene, netiquettes, cyber bullying and cyber stalking. He told us how the criminal data shows a surprising figure about the age of cyber criminals and 80% of the criminals belong to the age group of 16 yr-26 yr. 90% of the criminal activities are either done through social media or on e-banking. He also shared how the young generation is addicted to social media and how it leads them to cyber threat. He encounters various case related to social media extortion on daily bases. He shared his valuable inputs on how to use ATMs, and other digital apps responsibly and move towards a “Safer Digital India”. He advised us to spread awareness among the common masses regarding cyber-crimes and he felt that cyber security should become a part of our curriculum. He emphasized how essential it is to maintain a decent level of distance between personal life and cyber life. Through numerous examples and cases, he ensured that everyone understood that cyber security is our responsibility. At last, there was a vote of thanks by Prof. Madan Lal.

Knowledge developed through research has very distinct characteristics. Methodologies followed and tools adopted for research have distinct facets. Over the years, departments of University of Delhi have created knowledge base and developed significant skills. In the complex decision making environment it is important to have a 'research base' and cultivate skills for retrieval of appropriate data and correct analysis which would improve decision making.
