All 4-H entry FORMS are to be received by August 31 st , 2021. THERE WILL BE NO PRINTED FAIRBOOK. It will be ONLINE only. The Fair website is www.topsfieldfair.org, then click on Exhibitor Handbook and go to the 4-H section. 2. 15. Saturday, October 9th, 2021 is 4-H Day at Topsfield Fair. All 4-H’ers shall show a current 4-H card for admission. 4-H Fashion Revue will be held October 9th, 2021 at 1:00pm.

16. The decision of the judges is final. JUDGES HAVE THE RIGHT TO DISQUALIFY ANY ARTICLE EVEN THOUGH IT MAY HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AT DROP OFF NIGHT.

DEAN AND FLYNN 4-H ACHIEVEMENT AWARD A $25.00 Scholarship will be awarded at 4-H Achievement Night to two 4-H’ers in Essex County for outstanding achievement in 4-H Project Work & Fair Participation in 4-H. This award will be given by Eugene Dean and Mrs. Jack Flynn, Amusement Operators at Topsfield Fair. ESSEX AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY SWEEPSTAKES

1. The Essex Agricultural Society will award a $25.00 and a $15.00 award in Agriculture and Home Economics exhibit areas. These prizes will be awarded to either boys or girls in 4-H who have had projects in TWO OR MORE REQUIRED PROJECT AREAS, are winners in their respective classes, & have submitted a 4-H record by October 1, 2020.

2. Any 4-H member in good standing ages 8 -19 is eligible for this award.

3. To compete for AGRICULTURE a 4-H’er MUST exhibit in TWO SECTIONS: 4-H Horticulture AND at least one of the following: poultry, dairy, goat, sheep, rabbit, or horse. HOME ECONOMICS requires: TWO of the following: Canning, Clothing, Conservation, Fiber Arts, Foods, Handicrafts, Home Environment, Photography, Woodworking/Metalwork.

4. Points will be scored on 1st - 2nd - 3rd prizes won on individual exhibits in Agricultural & Home Ec classes. Points are follows: First/ Excellent: 5 points; Second/ Very Good: 3 points; Third/ Good: 2 points.

5. CHALLENGE CLASSES are NOT ELIGIBLE for sweepstakes.

2. Horticulture exhibits must arrive between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on THURSDAY, September 30th, 2021. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. See #5 General Rules & Regulations.

3. Exhibitors are required to keep flowers and vegetables fresh throughout the Fair.

4. All plants should be grown and cared for at least three months prior to exhibition.

5. All flowers / arrangements must be done by the exhibitor on Friday night. All flowers must be exhibited in PLAIN VASES. NO Decorative or Novelty Vases except in Classes AB4 and AB8.

6. Any plant damaged by insects/ pests or showing sign of infestation will be disqualified.

7. Only 1 variety of plant per container (except dish gardens and terrariums.)

8. Classes 1-18 and 20 & 21 flowers must be same color /variety. Class 19 flowers must be same variety/different colors.

9. All entries must be in place by 7:00pm. NO EXCEPTIONS

10. ALL PLANTS WILL BE SPRAYED WITH AN INSECTICIDE IN ORDER TO BE EXHIBITED.

11. Plants that have been previously entered may not be re-judged except in class BD. Plants in class BD will not be

1. Enter TWO JARS of uniform size in each class. 2. Each product must be labeled as to product, date

processed, processing method, processing time and your exhibitor number.

3. Acid Foods - Fruits, tomatoes and pickled vegetables may be processed in a boiling water bath canner. For tomatoes, use the hot pack method, process pints 35 minutes, quarts 45 minutes. To ensure consumer safety and remove doubt about acidity levels in tomatoes, add ¼ teaspoon citric acid per pint or ½

teaspoon per quart; or add 1 tablespoon reconstituted lemon juice per pint or 2 tablespoons per quart. (Fresh lemon juice should not be used because the acidity varies.)

5. Jellies, Jams, Preserves and Marmalades - use canning jars and process in boiling water- bath- canner. Paraffin tends to loosen and break on those products.

6. Jars with broken seals will be disqualified. 7. Awards will be 1st – 6th in each class. Only those

will be awarded premium money. Some of the criteria the judges will be considering are:
