plan for Priority One funding requests
What We Expect? • State budgets are rebounding, California reported an $851 million
surplus for 2013, the first in over 10 years

Sequester Impact: This Market Has Weathered Worse
U.S. Department of Education:
• K-12 Budget FY 2012 was $77.4 billion
• This only represents roughly 10% of public education spending
• 5.1% cut across all education programs in Fall 2013
• Title 1 may be cut by $725 million
• $600 million cut in special education funding
• President Obama has provided a plan to avoid these cuts
Funding in Colorado • Governor Hickenlooper is calling for an additional $200
million for K-12 in the 2013-14 budget
• Denver Public Schools received a $3 million investing in innovation (i3) grant in 2013
• SB213: “School Finance Act” would provision an additional $1 billion in new funding from an income tax increase
• Colorado received a $5.2 million school improvement grant from the USDOE
Legislative Priorities in Colorado
• HB13-1023: This bill requires each school district to adopt an academic acceleration policy for students
• HB13-1007: This bill resurrects the Early Childhood and School Readiness Legislative Commission
• SB13-053: Allows for the transfer of student data relevant to the transition from high school to postsecondary system
• SB13-139: This bill makes changes in the provision of online classes by boards of cooperative education services

Colorado Mobility What’s Going On in Colorado?
• St. Vrain Public Schools: Conducting an instructional technology restructuring process and speculating a move to a 1to1 device ratio.
• Academy School District 20: Tablets are used by both students and teachers in a variety of ways across all curriculums with instruction beginning in first grade.
• Douglas County School District: Rock Canyon High School students launched a mobile application known as CaringHands
State of Digital Content in CO
• Denver Public Schools: Grant Beacon Middle School named second Janus blended learning site with $2.1 million 3-year grant
• Boulder Valley School District: Recently launched ForeFront Math which will serve as the districts Instructional Management System
• St. Vrain Public Schools: The district has chosen to avoid software programs and pursue cloud based services, web pages and desktop apps.
• Academy School District 20: iPad tablets are used in social science, mathematics, language arts and history classes
Colorado Connectivity
• Denver Public Schools: 10 gigabyte fiber wide-area-network installed to all schools and admin facilities
• Colorado: $100.6 million infrastructure grant to build
4,600-mile network, providing high-speed broadband Internet access to schools, will complete in August, 2013
• Colorado: Received a total of $23 million in E-Rate funds in 2012
Colorado LMS/SIS What’s Going On in Colorado?
• Denver Public Schools: Developed the district’s new Enrollment Improvement Initiative which processed over 90,000 student enrollments for 2012-2013
• State Model Evaluation system will be piloted in 27 schools during the 2011-2013 school years
• Teacher Evaluation System: After SB 10-191 schools now require reporting on the effectiveness of educators, and tracking performance statistics
Opportunities in Colorado • Colorado Dept. of Education: Has issued an RFP to provide
wireless LAN solution for three schools
• Colorado Dept. of Education: Has issued an RFP to provide Online Web-Based Performance Management System
• Lamar County School District: Looking at 1:1 initiative in its 3 high schools, plan to lease 2,600 laptops at $500,000 per year
o Also planning to switch 1:1 schools to digital text only
