KYPRN administers the recovery programs for the Pharmacy, Dentistry, Veterinary, Physical Therapy, and Respiratory Care professional and is involved in assisting the chemically dependent health professional in their recovery process and supporting their return to active practice.
He has presented at a multitude of conferences and seminars at the local, state and national levels.

Ingram joined ODCP in November 2004, shortly after it was created with the mission of coordinating Kentucky’s substance abuse efforts in enforcement, treatment and prevention/education. Ingram served with the Maysville Police Department for more than 23 years, the last six as its chief. He is a
former president of the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police, and was named “Kentucky Chief of the Year” in 2001. He is a former recipient of the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Law Enforcement as well as the Melvin Shein Award for distinguished service to Kentucky law enforcement. In addition, he is a frequent speaker on a variety of substance abuse issues and has presented to numerous
groups and national organizations on the topic of electronically monitoring pseudoephedrine sales.
BRETT KESSLER, DDSOwner, Town Center Dentistry and Orthodontics | President, Colorado Prosthodontic Society | Past President, Colorado Dental Association (Denver, Colorado)Dr. Kessler earned a BS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa and a DDS from the
University of Illinois. He completed residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he focused on dental management of medically compromised patients, specifically analyzing how teeth affect systemic diseases and vice versa.From 1997 to 2000, Kessler mentored under Dr. Rob Terry at a private practice in Flint, Michigan. It was here
that he was introduced to the Pankey Philosophy, the highly respected approach to comprehensive care. During this time, Kessler was also a clinical associate professor at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Kessler recently served at the Colorado Dental Association’s 128th president. He is a past board member of the Metro Denver Dental Society as well as a former part-time faculty member of the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. He also serves as the chair of the Dental Well Being Committee for the State of Colorado. In 2007, Dr. Kessler testified before congress on behalf of the ADA on the ravages of methamphetamines on
oral health. He speaks internationally regarding this subject. Dr. Kessler is passionate about organized dentistry and advocacy for oral health and patient care.

OverviewDrug overdose is a huge problem facing the health care system in Kentucky. Drug overdose deaths are acute poisoning deaths due to prescription or illicit drugs. According to data from the National Center for Health Statistics, Kentucky had the fourth highest drug overdose death rate in the US in 2014.

Dentists encounter patients seeking prescription or illicit drugs in all work settings. They are in frequent contact with patients seeking care who use illicit drugs and face complex clinical and personal situations that require a high level of clinical competence, expertise, and skill.
ObjectivesUpon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
1. Help keep opioids from becoming a source of harm to patients with pain2. Manage dental pain especially for patients who are at risk for drug overdose and/or addiction3. Identify resources to support the dental professional in recovery4. Discuss laws and regulations related to prescribing controlled substances

JOHN LINDROTH, DDSAssociate Professor, Urgent Care Clinic OHP/Oral Diagnosis, University of Kentucky College of Dentistry (Lexington, Kentucky)Dr. Lindroth earned a DDS from West Virginia University College of Dentistry and completed residency and
a residency in Orofacial Painat the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He practiced general dentistry for twelve years with emphasis in orofacial pain and TMJ before joining the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He trains the residents in the areas of orofacial pain and management of sleep disordered breathing.
Dr. Lindroth has published in the areas of orofacial pain and acute pain management in the addicted patient. He is a certified by the American Board of Orofacial Pain, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial
Pain, and is a consultant for the Kentucky Dental Association Well Being Committee. Clinical interests include Orofacial Pain, Sleeping Breathing Disorders, and Temporomandibular Joint
Disorder (TMJ).
PATRICK J. SAMMON, PHDProfessor Emeritus, University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Department of Physiology (Lexington, Kentucky)
Dr. Sammon has served with the Advisory Committee on Chemical Dependency Issues, Council on Dental Practice American Dental Association and was a consultant and trainer for the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Medical Specialty Program. He is also an instructor for the Counter Drug Task Force training Programs in St. Petersburg, Florida. Dr. Sammon has received several national recognitions for his innovative and successful educational efforts.
