DENIED CREDIT: Semester One January 21, 2015 Dear Parent / Guardian of: Our records for the first, second and third six weeks , August 25, 2014– January 16, 2015, indicate that your student has lost credit in one or more classes due to absences. According to the state of Texas, “Credit for a class is based on a student’s attendance for at least 90 percent of the days a class is offered” TEC 25.092. Each semester, ten absences, excused and/or unexcused, in one class period will result in credit denied for that class. The first semester ran from August 25, 2014 – January 16, 2015. Attendance make-up is during am tutoring and/or after school tutoring. Attendance for semester one has been verified by teachers. Students were given letters each six weeks, who were over and/or dangerously close to being over the allotted nine absences per semester. In these letters, it was stated that attendance make-up needs to be completed each six weeks and that waiting until the end of the semester will not guarantee your student enough time to recover all credits. Time served that is not equal to the full amount required for all classes will be applied to individual classes. Student’s credit can be restored by setting up a tutoring make-up plan with their House principal. This plan will have a deadline date for the student to complete their make-up time. Parents may fill out an attendance waiver for their student’s absences, covering medical absences, and absences for serious extenuating circumstances. These waivers will be given to your student, by their House Principal Class Period Total Ab: Ex/Unex Time Owed Per Class 1 st : 2 nd : 3 rd : 4 th : 5 th : Total Hours 6 th : Hours Served 7 th : Remaining Hours Owed 8 th : Your student’s success is important to us; we do not want your student to lose credit due to absences which is why we have stressed the importance of making up attendance each six weeks.
