UGANDA – CONGO – KENYAThe Taste of Harvest specialty coffee competition is organised by AFCA (African Fine Coffee Association) in seven membercountries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and DR Congo.
The competitions seek out the highest quality specialty coffees in each region. Coffee submitted to the competition is cupped andjudged according to the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) protocol by a panel of local and international judges.
Bean Auction, with the support of the International Trade Centre (ITC), is working with AFCA to sell the winning coffees through itsonline auction. All coffees must score a minimum of 82 points in the competition in order to be entered onto the auction. BeanAuction will charge a 2% buyer’s premium and an 8% seller’s commission on the price of coffee sold.
The goal of the Taste of Harvest competition and auction is to achieve higher prices for producers in each country and demonstratethe value of investing in improving coffee quality. For buyers, the goal is to facilitate single-origin direct trade with the best producersand the most exceptional coffees in each region.
The top coffees from each region are presented at the annual AFCA conference taking place in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia betweenthe 13th – 17th February 2017.
