ABOUT US & DAGA PARTNERSHIP MISSION Educate individuals with disabilities through inclusive access to community-based educational, recreational, leisure, and cultural activities that enhance quality of life and inspire independence. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES • Increase number of participants enrolled in our programs and services. • Increase quality of service and programs. • Increase training and support to staff that promote inclusive practices and access. • Increase disabilities services exposure. The Dade Amateur Golf Association (DAGA) was founded in 1963 and has been instrumental in the continuing development of junior golf in South Florida. Through various programming and fundraising activities DAGA has been an agent of support and positive change for the entire community which has impacted all individuals including those with and without disabilities. DAGA began working directly with Special Olympics in 1991 to bring golf to the world of individuals with developmental disabilities. Annually, they host 2,916 athletes with disabilities throughout Miami Dade County. In 1990, the City of Miami Programs for Persons with Disabilities coordinated and implemented the inaugural Edward James Olmos Golf Classic which was later known as the City of Miami Golf Classic, to raise money for its programs. From its inception DAGA participated (and won the first year) in the tournament which was held at the Miami Springs Country Club and assisted the program with its fundraising effort. In 1994, DAGA became the driving force and spearheaded the organizing, fundraising, logistics and operations of the Golf Tournament for the City of Miami. This meant a significant milestone for this grassroots fundraiser bringing it to the next level with its expertise and resources. It has continued to be a premiere event for the city. DAGA under the leadership of The De Lucca Family has been instrumental in being an agent of relentless support and advocacy for our programs for persons with disabilities. So much so, that the City of Miami on October 12, 2001 inaugurated the Sandra DeLucca Developmental Center which is the only facility of its kind in the City of Miami that’s dedicated exclusively to operate all of the programs for persons with disabilities throughout South Florida. In December 2015 we will celebrate 25 years of fundraising success as well over $1,000,000 has been raised towards providing quality programming, goods and services to all the individuals with developmental disabilities that participate in the center. Throughout the years the funds raised have purchased vehicles, materials, supplies, furnishings, field trips and it also underwrites and sponsors special events and has directly procured the operation of our summer camp and GET FIT program. These recreation and sports programs have brought the art of fitness training to youngsters with developmental disabilities to an award winning level. In 2014 our GET FIT Softball Team represented Special Olympics Florida in the Special Olympics National Games in Princeton, NJ where our team won the National Silver Medal. The Sandra De Lucca Developmental Center’s success would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of the DeLucca Family and DAGA’s unyielding commitment to Miami’s children and adults with physical and developmental challenges. A quarter century of love and devotion to making life a little better for those who need it the most and are often forgotten. To another 25 years of this successful partnership!
