Principal’s message……. Delroy’s Got Talent – coming in Term 3. Students are encour-

aged to put an act together for a bit of fun. Singing, dancing, poetry, humorous or serious skits all accepted. Staff are also encouraged to impress us with their talents.

Eisteddfod - wow, what a performance. Congratulations to all

of our successful participants in this year’s Eisteddfod. Thank you to Miss Tonks for supporting our students to success.

Learning is one of the biggest oppor tunities we offer at

Delroy. Students not only learn about subject content but they also learn life skills. These occur during sport, how to be a positive team member, through cultural activities, learning about other peoples’ ways of life, through the knowledge shared by guest speakers eg the Youth Frontiers volunteers and relation-ship building through PBL lessons. These are just a few examples in Delroy’s bag of learning goodies.

Reports will be posted to families at the end of this ter m. Please feel free to call

the school to discuss any concerns.

Our Transition for students, Year 10 into Year 11 has started. Please encourage

your child to take up the opportunity to visit the Senior Campus in preparation for their continued educational journey.

Year excursions continue next ter m. These excur sions offer an excellent

opportunity to build relationships, develop new skills, participate in activities students may not have experienced before, and ultimately have some fun.

Thank you to all the staff, students and parents/carers for their support and participation in making Delroy a positive learning environment.

Have an enjoyable, relaxing, safe and warm holiday. Miss Kathryn Bermingham Relieving Principal

‘Education brings about opportunity, and in turn inspiration’ OPPORTUNITY Is your student in Year 7 or 8?

Do they need additional support with Literacy and Numeracy?

If the answer to these questions is YES, then this opportunity may be for them.

Opportunity Hub at Dubbo TAFE is offering Maths and Literacy programs on Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 3.30pm to 5.15pm. Afternoon tea will be supplied on arrival. Students will need to be transported to and

from TAFE by Parents/Carers. Please see Mrs Budden in the Learning and Support staffroom for further details and/or

application form.

Co2 RACE CARS

Examples of the fantastic CO2 Race Cars built by

the Delroy Year 8 TAS students.

Co2 dragsters are minia-ture racing cars which are propelled by a carbon dioxide cartridge, pierced to release the gas and race around 20 metres. They demonstrate mechanical principles such as mass, force, acceleration, or aerodynamics.

CAPA News

Year 9 Visual Art

The Year 9 Visual Art elective group has been busy studying the form of sculpture throughout this term, discovering new materials and challenging their 3D perception. Artists such as Claes Oldenburg, Patricia Piccinini and Andy Goldsworthy have been analysed for different views on ways to create sculptures through a variety of materials. Some of the materials the students have experimented with include wood, cardboard, newspaper, plaster, air drying clay and firing clay. Through this experimentation, the students are to connect with one of these materials and complete either one large, or a series of small sculptures for assessment. Below are some examples of the experiment pieces from the students of Year 9 Visual Art Elective:

Year 9 Visual Art

Year 8 Green - Graffiti Boards

Mrs McConnell’s 8 Green Visual Arts class has progressed steadily throughout the term studying the difference between Graffiti and Street Art through a variety of artists. As like all of Year 8 art students, the students of 8 Green are to complete a series of tasks that will be added to their Graffiti Board for Assessment. Some of these tasks include their own Tag, Stencil Design, Wheat Paste illustration and a Jean-Michel Basquiat artist practice symbol (such as a crown or skull). By adding each of these tasks to their Graffiti Board, the students are experimenting with different techniques from both a Graffiti Artist and Street Artist, as well as demonstrating they understand the use of layers to create collage. Although they are a little behind (currently producing their stencil designs and wheat paste illustrations as you read this), the students have taken a great interest and enjoying the use of acrylic paints, stencils and Sugar Spray aerosol cans (safe from odours/lowest impact on health). Below are some examples from 8 Green who are steadily completing their works:

STRIVE Class Scoop….

Year 8 Report:

I’d like to start the final newsletter of the term by congratulating all students who achieved results of which they are proud in their assessment tasks and examinations. As the name of our class suggests, ‘Strive’ is about striving to be the very best that you can be.

This does not happen without hard work, commitment, dedication and effort. For those students who demonstrated these attributes in the lead up to and through the assessment period, I hope that your efforts have been rewarded by some impressive improvements and

results. “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure.” - Colin Powell.

This week will see students beginning our new topic Equations in Maths.

Students are encouraged to revise their learning from our previous topic Algebra because this forms the foundation for new learning. Students are issued with weekly homework that will consolidate classroom learning, or

can ensure their Cornell Notes are up-to-date, or can even create their own examples of questions to apply the relevant formulas.

We have begun our exploration of Body Systems in Science, with students

considering why some organisms survive as just a single cell whereas others need to have many cells in order to survive. Our investigations will include examining the key organelles within cells, the differences between plant and

animal cells, and how cells ultimately combine to create organ systems. (I have attached photos that wrapped up our exploration of gravity as a non-contact

force, with students investigating the effects of the gravitational pull towards Earth.)

Class Project always proves to be a favourite for Year 8 Strive

who continue to cater afternoon tea fortnightly for Homework Centre. Included is a photo of the caramel mini cupcakes made recently by the students. As always, I’d like to extend my

sincere thanks to Woolworths Delroy Park for your ongoing sponsorship of this program.

As this is the last newsletter for the term, I’d like to wish every-

one a very safe, happy, restful and warm holiday break! Mrs Rachel Cody

We are heading into a very busy time of the year as we prepare Year 10 students to choose their subjects for Year 11 - 12. Students are provided information on subjects offered at the Senior Campus, information about subjects that count towards a Higher School Certificate (HSC) and subjects required for students to obtain an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR). There is a lot of information for students to consider and as a Careers Team we aim to give students information to make informed decisions about their futures. We always encourage students to discuss their options with their parents.

Students from the Support Unit will be kept informed about the stages in this process by Mrs Jones Head Teacher Support, as part of their transition to Senior Campus.

STUDENT INFORMATION ON THE UNIQUE

STUDENT IDENTIFIER (USI) USI...it’s yours for life! If you are undertaking nationally recognised training delivered by a registered training organisation you will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This includes students studying at TAFE or with a private training organisation, completing an apprenticeship or skill set, certificate (e.g. First Aid certificate or White Card training) or diploma course. A USI is made up of ten numbers and letters and will look something like this: 3AW88YH9U5. It normally takes less than 5 minutes to create online. When applying for a job or enrolling in further study, you will often need to provide your training records and results. One of the main benefits of the USI is that you will have easy access to your training records and results throughout your life. Linked training records in the national collection also help the Australian Government to better understand how well our training system is meeting individual, community and industry needs. Your USI gives you access to your online USI account and once you’ve undertaken some training your

USI account will allow you to view your nationally recognised training records and results in the form of a

USI transcript. You will also be able to view, download or print your USI transcript for free. Please

remember, that the USI transcript only includes training completed after 1 January 2015.You can access

your USI account online from a computer, tablet or smart phone almost anywhere, anytime.

WHEN DO I NEED A USI? You will need a USI when you enrol or re-enrol in training if you are a: student undertaking nationally recognised training, for example if you are studying at TAFE or with a private training organisation, completing an apprenticeship or skill set, certificate or diploma course; or school student undertaking nationally recognised training while at school. Some examples of training where you need a USI include Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), White

Card or a First Aid certificate. If you are an international, overseas or an offshore student please visit the website for more in-

formation.

Once you have created your USI, it’s yours for life. You: must provide your USI to each training organisation you study with (from your USI account you can

email or print out a hard copy);

can view and update your details in your USI account;

once you’ve undertaken some training, you can view, download and print your transcript;

can give your training organisation permission to view and/or update your USI account;

can give your training organisation view access to your transcript online. If you forget your USI, it is easy to look it up. For more information on how to find your forgotten USI,

please refer to the USI website.

Page 10: DELROY SNIPPETS - dubbocoll-m.schools.nsw.gov.au€¦ · learning goodies. Reports will be posted to families at the end of this term. Please feel free to call the school to discuss

HOW TO GET A USI It’s free and easy for you to create your own USI and it takes less than 5 minutes online! While you may create your own USI, most training organisations can help you if you have trouble or even

create a USI for you. Training organisations may do this as part of the enrolment process when you begin

studying. Where this service is provided, training organisations will let you know.

STEPS TO CREATE YOUR USI

The following steps show how you can create a USI: Step 1 Have one of the forms of ID listed below:

IMPORTANT: The personal details entered when you create a USI must match exactly with

those on your form of ID. If you do not have a form of ID listed, you can contact your training organisation about the other

forms of ID they can accept to create your USI for you. Step 2 Visit the USI website at usi.gov.au. Step 3 Select ‘Student Login’ on the homepage. Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions

Step 4 Select the ‘Create a USI’ tile.

Step 5 Follow the instructions to create a USI— it should take less than 5 minutes. Upon

completion, the USI will be displayed on the screen. It will also be sent to you. Step 6 You should write down your USI and keep it safe and handy somewhere, perhaps

on your phone. When enrolling in training, your training organisation will need to collect and

verify your USI. To help your training organisation do this, you can select the ‘Print your USI’ or

‘Email your USI’ option from this screen. Click here for more information. TIP: From your USI account, you may also wish to set permissions for your training organisation

to view your transcript, view your details and/or update your details. For more information on setting permissions, please refer to the Student Quick Guide for step‑by‑step instructions. It is important to note that you can remove permissions at any time. Remember, your USI is yours for life!

If you’re unsure if you have a USI or have forgotten it, don’t create a new one. Just look it up!
