Delphi

For centuries our modern ‘muse’ has been based on the early Greek arts and theaters with their music, drama and performances. Sonokinetic found a new goal to capture this “cradle of music performance art”. We invested in authenticity and reconstructed sampled instruments in extensive sampling recording sessions. These samples are based on modern science that interprets these ancient ‘in stone and clay written’ music, songs and chants and how we believe this time-faded art would have sounded. We teamed up with renowned and ‘Greek classics schooled” Miss Veronica Iliopoulou who poured her heart and skills in this project. Sonokinetic also invested in reconstructing some of the long lost instruments thus creating a sample set that was ‘lost in time’ in the truest sense of the word. What you will find in this collection are a wide range of playable ancient Greek multi sampled instruments like historical harp (Phorminx chromatic recorded reconstruction), several size drums (hand and stick played Tympanons), bells and rattles. “Delphi” wouldn’t be a Sonokinetic library if we didn’t feature a dramatic vocal performance. We’ve created a sample set from Greek vocals that provides you, the composer, with a unique and inspiring collection of melodies, chants and voice FX. “Delphi” dives into dramatic Grecian performance too, and covers a broad range of ancient texts and phrases from Greek Tragedies and Dramas by classical dramatists, Sophocles and Aeschylus. This unique peek into a forgotten world of poetic power is a truly inspiring environment to behold. These tools are essential for the contemporary composer that is looking for that ancient “Mythological” sound.

Treat yourself with “Delphi” this and find your most base creative powers recharged by just listening and enjoying this amazing soundscape of historical human art.

In early 2012 Sonokinetic committed to create a new corner stone in our collection and capture musical cultural heritage from around the world. We set our focus to archive unique ancient historical instruments and performances. By extensively researching historical music we have recreated and reconstructed lost civilization’s music and sound art in high quality recording sessions. This exhaustive research and performance capture is now available to you, the composer, in an easy-to-use and thought-provoking package. Sticking to our awarded multi sampling / performance capturing concepts and teaming up with the worlds greatest musicians, recording artist, programmers, designers and scripters we are proud to present to you: “Delphi Historical Ancient Greek Ensemble”

We wish you the best inspiration and creativity. Stick around… there’s much more to come. With warm regards, The Sonokinetic Delphi Production Team

THE INTERFACE The main UI for Delphi consists of controls for EQ, Envelope & Reverb controls on the left. There are also 3 switches on the UI for selecting different sample groups; either Vocal, Instruments or Drama. Phrase Length and Harmonic Key Indication The length of a song, chant or dramatic read is displayed by a blue light that slides around the outer rim of the large round stone tablet. It slides from left to right indicating the position in the phrase that is triggered and played back. At the bottom of the song and text list there’s a harmonic root key displayed. Phrase Length Indicator Key Indicator

EQ Turn EQ controls on / off with the button on the left and hold the left mouse button to adjust the LOW, MID & HIGH dials to taste. Default frequencies are 250Hz, 1.4kHz & 7.5kHz. These can be easily adjusted by opening the Kontakt instrument editor and changing the frequencies in the Insert Effects panel. Impulse Response (IR) Delphi comes with a bespoke reverb to simulate a realistic playing environment. Turn this on / off with the button on the left. Adjust the start point of the reverb tail with the ‘size’ dial and the wetness of the reverb with the ‘amount’ dial. You can further customize or replace the IR within the Kontakt instrument editor Insert Effects panel. INTELLIGENT TIME MACHINE (ITM) OVERRIDE The ITM function syncs samples to half-time or double-time when extreme tempo values are used. This can also be turned off. Click the red button below the ‘ITM’ graphic from ‘OFF’ to ‘ON’. You may prefer to have the ITM function turned off when using the new adaptive tempo-syncing functions previously mentioned, so that the samples do not suddenly switch to half/double-time when manipulating large tempo changes. When in ITM ‘OFF’ mode you can either select 120 BPM or 90 BPM of the original recorded tempos.

Keyswitches Delphi provides several colored key switches: The first colored set (from left to right) are the basic switches that are visible all time: YELLOW Key switches starting on C0: sample group selector (Vocals, Instruments or Drama). The active key is colored ‘red’. In this example the “Vocal” group is selected. These functions also work by clicking on the interface switches. When activated in the interface a small blue light will light up. GREEN Key switches starting from F0 switch between the different performances. You can also select by clicking on the text within the interface. When activated in the selected performance title will glow (See example: instance for the ‘Drama’ has been loaded) WHITE Key switches (for Songs & Chants) select the harmonic root key. In this example performances in “E” are selected BLUE Key switches trigger the sample TOP YELLOW Key switches control breath samples

Seikilos: The Seikilos is an ancient sample of a complete composition, including traditional notation, surviving from the ancient world. The song and the melody including the text, in the ancient Greek musical notation, has been found engraved on a tombstone near Ephesus. The stones have been dated to be from the first century AD.
